It's interesting... the glass on the top of the back is scratched but nothing else is

That's cos it's not glass, it's plastic.

----------

Mine has the same scuffs my previous one did - the black is rubbing off the bottom corner edges of the chamfered bezel from going in and out of my Snugg slip case.

Disappointed but it's going to happen eventually I suppose. It's still a gorgeous piece of tech, just wish the aluminium hadn't just been painted over.

It's just a phone people.

Nope this is just a phone even though it has a camera, internet of sorts and many other features. The iPhone is NOT just a phone:D

Someone needs to get their info correct before the spout out things that are not true.
1st the panels at the top and bottom of the iPhone 5 are infact glass.
2nd the black aluminium is not painted its anodized, yes it will scratch but it is NOT rubbing off.

No case since launch day and it's still looking good.

I agree but you are incorrect. The anodizing is rubbing off on some devices. The adhesion is poor and more than likely due to the rushed/low quality anodizing process.

As a gadget nudist, I prefer absolutely no case on any of my gadgets while in use. Apple products are beautiful to feel and look at thus, I consider them pieces of artwork. In my view their aesthetics need not be concealed with any third-party cases, skins or screen protectors. I'm willing to trade off ergonomics and functionality for beauty without any case.

They are, however, stored in sleeves when not in use.

I refuse to put any accidental insurance on them because this way I will be more careful with them. If accident happens--oh well--I am willing to cover the loss and it's time for a new one. ;)

The edge of the bezel is where mine is faltering.. That's what I said.

And there's no way that's glass, it's too thin and scratches easily. My previous phone had several scratches on the top back piece.

I have a white 32 GB and after a few weeks of naked use, there are 2 small chips on the bezel. One is on the right side by the SIM card slot, and the other is on the top bezel, right above the FaceTime camera. These were due to accidentally sticking my phone with my keys in the same pocket a couple of times, though I realize this right away and take it out of the pocket. They are not really noticeable unless you look at them from the right angle. Got a system now though, coins and keys in front left pocket. iPhone in front right pocket.

Looks great! mine is in a suncase pouch, but I use it naked most of the time, it still looks as good as on the day I got it.

Do you not worry about it slipping out of your hand? or dropping it? I need a case in my bag due to everything else in there bashing up against it.

I'm trying this out when I get my iPhone 5

I actually like this in a quirky kind of way! LOL. Too funny.

Alright, figured I'd post some pics so all the OCD people can nit pick my flaws. This is my launch day phone that has been naked since day one. I've dropped it once onto a concrete floor from about a foot or so, I was sitting on a couch and it slipped off my lap as I was taking my jacket off. Hit the corner by the camera lens. All other "scuffs" have been circled in red and honestly my camera and flash make them appear way worse than they actually are. I can hardly see them when just looking at them under any lighting conditions.

Oops, forgot to mention the scratch on the bottom glass piece on the back.

Guess what. It still works just the same. I still love it just the same and I'm not gonna make a big deal out of it, cuz I have AppleCare +.

Guess what, everyone is different. Like they say, one person's trash is another person's treasure. Your phone's nicks would bug the **** out of me. :)

My white has been naked for 3 weeks or so. I am careful, but I use it. The polished Apple logo has a few scratches and there are 3 or 4 dings on the aluminum bezel/chamfered edge, but they really aren't noticeable unless you really scrutinize the phone. I figure of the edges become unbearable to look at them I will cover it in a case.

Black since launch day. Naked for a while, wrapsol for a while, gelaskins for a while, and a case for a while and back to naked. Realized I kind of like it with my orange rocketfish ultra slim case so back to that for the last couple days. Gives the phone nice weight to it as well. But this usually never lasts and I'll be naked again before the weekend is up.

I don't baby it and it shows. Nicks on the antenna band, some slight scratches on the back (in the grey-ish area) but overall don't really care. It's a phone and I don't need it to look pristine or really care enough to buff it, protect it, wrap it in napkins or a sock etc. I'm not trying to impress anyone with my flawless phone. Plus it will be handed down to my son next year when I get a 5S and he will beat the crap out of it or use it with a case.

If it gets too funky I will just grab another gelaskins or go back and forth like I do anyway between skin and case for it and move on with my day.

Black Iphone 5 = Easily Scratched compared to 4. That being said, it still looks way better than my buddies s3, and the crapberries I used to rock...:apple:

May be should compare it something more powerful, like the big and beautiful (grey) Galaxy Note 2.

So far so good. I hate putting a case on my phone, but I need to buy one for the times I go golf or hiking or something. Otherwise, I think it will hold up well.

Got a few nicks / small dents in the top left back corner of my white one today D': tripped down the stairs and my phone grazed the stone wall next to me haha. Not as bad as it sounds and the dents aren't deep and thus it's not rough to the touch. Still want to rock it naked though :)

Considering you've dropped it, it looks pretty great still!

I've been been without a case since launch day, and I have absolutely no damage. I do stick my phone in a ColcaSac pouch when it goes into my bag, but during the day it'll sit on desks in class or go in and out of my back pocket when I'm working in the lab.

My brother's is showing a bit more wear, but he's also an 18 year old boy and doesn't use it delicately at all. Goes in and out of his pocket/backpack, and he's banged it around a lot at college parties, and he just has some slight silver showing on the chamfered edge. It's only noticeable if you're in bright light and are actually looking for it, though.

Definitely not as delicate as I feared it was going to be after all the launch week horror! So glad I stuck with the black, it's gorgeous.
