about 3 weeks...i havnt dropped it yet, (well it fell off my bed onto the carpet a few times) and ive got tons of scratches all along the chamfered edge....i handle my phone with care, i dont drop or throw it around, i also keep it in a separate pocket with no keys etc...im disappointed with apples quality on this one

Mine looks brand new but I user a slim case 75% of the time. I do it not so much for protection but because in my larger hands I find the i5 a bit too hard to hold as it's just a bit too thin. I had to do the same thing with my last gen iPod Touch, it was just TOO thin to hold without feeling like I was going to drop it constantly.

Launch day Black iPhone 5

Alright, figured I'd post some pics so all the OCD people can nit pick my flaws. This is my launch day phone that has been naked since day one. I've dropped it once onto a concrete floor from about a foot or so, I was sitting on a couch and it slipped off my lap as I was taking my jacket off. Hit the corner by the camera lens. All other "scuffs" have been circled in red and honestly my camera and flash make them appear way worse than they actually are. I can hardly see them when just looking at them under any lighting conditions.

Oops, forgot to mention the scratch on the bottom glass piece on the back.

Guess what. It still works just the same. I still love it just the same and I'm not gonna make a big deal out of it, cuz I have AppleCare +.

The honeymoon phase of babying this phone is slowly diminishing, at least for me

Well said. I "babied" my iPhone 5 for the first few days, but after a while I finally figured there's no need since I purhcased AppleCare, so if I get a nasty scuff or scratch that I don't like, or worse, if I break it, I can always get it swapped out for a new one for $49.

irony

ironically, a buddy of mine gave me few old iphones 4 ...

? well, for the first time, i actually didn't care to put on a bumper or case on the one i let my ... 4 year old use :)

let me tell you. now, i actually appreciate the 4 design: glass, sliver edges. it just feels nicer in your hand then 5 (yes, yes, that one is in a case & screen protector from day 0)

be brave, use your 5, like you stole it! :)
(i do ... but only when at home)

I was comparing the Iphone 5 and 4s on display at Costco, I touched both phones together on their sides and the 5 came away with a silver scratch. Very poor.

Still naked since launch day, only one small nick and a little scuff to go with the one original factory nick. I was very careful with it the first couple of weeks but now i'm getting a little more comfortable with just handling it like any old iPhone. Still looks great!

Mine spends a lot of time naked. I use a Leather Suncase for carrying the phone in my bag, and it gets knocked around a lot , but this is mine. (Ignore the dust everywhere lol )

I do give it a polish every now and then and I've scratched the back to test it's durability, the scratches rubbed right off.

So far as I can tell mine is doing well. I have home insurance so I can throw the damn thing in front of a train and get it replaced for £100 advanced fee. My insurance is going down all the time because I don't use it (I am careful with my gadgets) but it's there just in case.

Going naked as of this evening. Cases are cool, but it's pointless if you have insurance on your phone, which I do. My wife is rockin her i4 naked and won't even consider putting a case on her phone now.

Stop using the work 'rockin' or 'rocking' as a verb.

I was thinking of rockin a case but rocking it naked feels and looks better. I have developed a couple of very small dings that a rockin case would have prevented so I am looking at either a rocking skin or very thin case that simply rocks!

Have not decided yet.

Rock on !!

**Yesterday I was talking to my wife while I was holding up my phone, I gestured outside and as I did so my phone went flying across the room at about 4 and about 6 feet in length, it bounced across the floor about another 3 feet. My iPhone is white and there is not a scratch on it..

iphone 5

no problems for me either, im using a oakleys sunglasses bag and always have i dont like the hard cases as they tend to collect dust and stuff under them thus scratching them. trust me they also keep it clean, it wont however protect it if u drop it.:apple::)
