Ooooo, you worked for Apple, good for you. Therefore, you know everything about all facets of the company.

Here are the comments where the people don't know what they are talking about. "it's nearly coming to the end of it's (sic) 3 year warranty, they may be reluctant to give you a brand new one.." "then you'll never get a new computer unless you ask for one" "You don't really deserve a new MBP" "It is NOT JUST five repairs, it has to be for the same thing" "sense of entitlement some people have" "Defective after 3 years of use? Give me a break."

What are these trolls doing in the thread? They have an opinion that they are stating as fact. I am just one customer whose experience directly contradicts their conjecture.

How is the OP supposed to differentiate between the BS and the erroneous nonsense from these idiots?

My post gives constructive advice, based on my experience.

1. Even though your computer is at the Genius Bar, call AppleCare.
2. Be polite.
3. Explain your situation.
4. Shut up and see what they offer.

I hope the OP gets his computer back or gets a replacement ASAP.

I absolutely said it is NOT JUST ANY FIVE REPAIRS. If it was, I would have gotten a new MBP long ago. Someone who offers legit and personal experience and calling them an idiot is asinine. I probably have more experience with dealing with the Genius Bar than most people on here. If they replaced after just any five repairs, everyone would get a replacement because everyone would find something wrong with their machines. The genius even told me they have guidelines (which I highly doubt they make public what those guidelines entail), and mine was even on the border between fixing and replacing.

What I don't understand is why the OP dropped off their computer (why Apple let him) w/o the part ready, but that is besides the point. Just talk to a manager and see what is going on. Be polite and don't be rude as others' have stated.

I left it there because the computer was useless. The screen was dead.

No word from Apple yet today. Starting to get worried. ugh

I have been waiting a week for Apple to get the Matte screen in they ordered last Wednesday... no word either..

What state are you in? I know in California, you have a right to ask for a replacement or a refund after 3 unsuccessful repairs on your unit.

But 6 repairs is a bit. Call Apple, Tier 1 won't be able to help you but Customer Relations would totally, at least, listen to your issue.

Hmm, that's interesting. I wonder whether Apple's legally required to give him a new computer or not. While it is true that he lives in Illinois, as a California based company, Apple seems to state something to the effect of preferring California legal jurisdiction in their warranty unless there's a reason they can't use it.

The Administrator for Plans sold in the United States is Apple Inc. (the “Administrator”), a California corporation with its registered office at 1 Infinite Loop, Cupertino, California 95014. The Administrator is responsible for the collection and transfer to AppleCare Service Company, Inc. of the purchase price for the Plan and for the administration of claims under the Plan.

n. Except where prohibited by law, the laws of the state of California govern Plans purchased in the United States. Except where prohibited by law, the laws of the province of Ontario govern Plans purchased in Canada. If the law of any jurisdiction where this Plan is purchased is inconsistent with these terms, including the jurisdictions of Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Nevada, Oregon, Vermont, Washington, and Wyoming, the law of that jurisdiction will control.

Alright folks... I'm practically jumping up and down right now.

I called earlier today (again) just to bug them nicely and see if the part came in. They said it did and they would repair it today.

Well I got a call about an hour ago... A very nice Apple rep said "We tried replacing the logic board, but it still did not fix it. So if you're ok with it, we're just going to give you a new computer." ---At this point I was just thinking it would be a refurb of my version... Well I was so wrong!

She continued: "We're going to replace it with the brand new Macbook Pro that just came out. It will meet up to your last specs if not exceed them. Is that ok?"

I was like YEAH!!!
I never even asked Apple for a new computer, so this is amazing.

So in my book, Apple has redeemed themselves completely if not more. They've taken my computer that was maybe worth $500 and given me a brand new one. WOW.

Then I got a call a little while later from another Apple rep, he was just checking to make sure I was good with the specs of the new computer: i7, 2.0ghz, 15" Glossy, 500gb HD, quad core, 4gb RAM lightpeak...etc  I was like.. "Haha yes!"

That thing is about double if not more of what my last computer had. I am blessed. :D I love you Apple.

Nice ... glad that worked out for you ... you better get caught up on that work now and not just play around with your new MBP.

enjoy

Which apple store did you take your machine to? Just curious more than anything. Im in Central Illinois myself, last time I drove over to Indy and had serious problems with them.

Deer Park. They've generally always been very nice there.

Congrats!

Make sure when you first get it to upgrade to 10.6.7 and after that reset the PRAM/SMC just in case. It seems to solve a lot of the problems with heating/fans.

I'm very happy to hear that tho, well done :)

Yeah, I was kinda confused when last night getting it, the Apple Store employee clamshelled it and handed it to me, when I got in the car it was really hot and the fans were going nuts... I updated to 10.6.7 yesterday, but I have not done a PRAM reset yet. I will do that.

Congrats. It sounds like you did the right thing by not being obnoxious and demanding as others suggested. That thing is going to scream.

That's been my experience with apple's after care everytime I've used it. My 27in ACD was a free replacement for my 24in one :)

Most of the time they seem to rock, it seems just the occasional thing slips between the cracks. I think it helps if you are really nice to the Genius's. I tend to have done all their work for them before turning up. That always gets them on your side :)
