I just hovered over my name and realized that today marks 20 years since I joined MacRumors! Feels like yesterday...
Any other old-timers here?))
2008 officially, but was a lurker for a while before that! I used to also be a member of SpyMac forums, and then another one before that I can't remember the name of, unfortunately. It was around 2003 and I believe the color scheme was blue and yellow.

Since 2010. My password was whacked for a good bit so I lurked for some of the time.

I had to send an e-mail to get it reset, quite a while ago now.

I didn't have hair back then either, but the world (and the MacRumors forums!) were indeed a much simpler place. 🙂

This was the first online community that I ever joined.

Actually, I joined because I had "switched" (to Apple) as the parlance has it, as I had purchased a MBP as a belated birthday present to myself, and I had questions I wished to ask, hence, I joined this forum.

That was in July 2008.

And I have been here ever since.

Nice!

I started out on CompuServe forums, USENET, BBS forums and FIDONet (was also BBS operator too at one point) 😀 Joined some of the earliest and now defunct OS X forums when I "switched" in 2000 (Mac OSX hints, MacCentral and MacFixIt to name a few).

I realize this thread is primarily a discussion of time based membership with a few posts expounding on the impetus for visiting. And oddly enough (or not) the subject matter got me to thinking about a broader (and acknowledge by me) indirect subset of the subject.

As much as I enjoy and appreciate what MR shares and provides staff and membership wise, I would like to see more open female nerd involvement. The reason I say that is because it has been my experience over the years, that the ladies will often provide a different and salient point of view or advice tempered with respect sans the blind cheerleading we often see here. I think it would also add to the numbers as well as the quality of membership. Sometimes, this place echoes way too much.

Not quite that long, but long enough to remember when half the rumors were wild guesses and blurry spy shots. Funny how the topics change but the vibe of the place is basically the same. Still the first tab I open when there’s any Apple news.

Seriously. I remember when I saw a shot of the upcoming MacBook Pro, which had a black keyboard on a silver body and an ugly black bezel around the display. I said — ain't no way. Sure enough that's exactly what was released 😀

Same here. My Dad's number was 76044,1046. Funny that I can remember that today (and about a half dozen old phone numbers), but not what I ate for breakfast. 😉

Nice!

I can only recall the 1st part was 73700...

That was the first place where I could trade US stocks without using a "traditional" broker. Once on CompuServe, had to go to E*Trade's area to buy/hold/sell/?? LOL

2003. I got my first Mac in 2002, one of the lamp-style G4 iMac. I think in 2003 I got a titanium G4 Powerbook. Man, that thing was expensive! I think I paid $2,500 for it.

Same here... I recall the wifi card was an extra $100 or so and the shop I bought it from had to install the card for me.

I bought it on a whim while we were on vacation in San Luis Obispo CA.

Ha! I am in SLO...small world.

Aug 27, 2015 for me. Lurked for a couple years previsous. Spent about a decade as a moderator back at ye olde macgurus.com going back to about 1999 or so.

I joined almost 10 years ago just before getting my first Mac. It was a 27 inch iMac and it's still running good with macOS Catalina.

I know of, at minimum, at least four MR members that are female. If I think a bit, I can probably recall a few more. It's not my place to call attention to that, even if I had their explicit permission. But I know who they are and they participate just like any other forum member. It's just not relevant to any of the conversations we all engage in.

All of them have had good advice though, again just like any other member.

I realize there are several here already. My main point was that there is often a wide disparity in this echo chamber and the ladies bring some more balance so that the tone isn't so one-sided. I hope my reply made a little more sense.

I think my original account from 2009 used a hotmail address but I didn't post way back then. That was when I left the Windows world for good when I quit Microsoft (yes, I was partly responsible for marketing Vista, I apologize to anyone I hurt or who suffered as a result, but I did help get Win7 out the door before I left). My current account is from 2019 and I've mainly been posting the past few months to get out of "member" status and recently reached 6502! Only another year of posts before I reach 6502a...

P.S. Just noticed the big Apple announcement on March 4th should also include my 7-year anniversary on MR.

I agree that we are blessed to have some wonderful female (and male) members.

I couldn't have timed it better when I joined MacRumors.

The date wasn't important. What was important is that I received user number 12149, which is 11² 7². It's easy to remember since it's Seven-Eleven backward squared!
