i dont see the demand like a new xbox or ps3..

The demand is on the level like the Xbox and PS3. The difference is that Apple allow millions of people to pre-order theirs and get them delivered online. Gaming console launches don't have the same volumes of availability on launch day and hence the queues.

Mine was actually shorter then I anticipated. I came to the local store in Switzerland, which is like 3 minutes walking distance from my work, when it opened at 9:30 am this morning and there was like 5 people in line in front of me. I had my brand new ipad with 10 next minutes.

I'm shocked by the short lines. I wonder why Apple didn't want to create more of a demand.

Here in NJ at Apple store in Short Hills Mall there are a few hundred people 15 minutes before opening. They have a TON of iPads so people looking to sell are in trouble. They are serving coffee and hot chocolate and gave cards out to people in line for what they wanted. Think things will move quick.

The idea that apple purposely creates shortages to increase demand is unfounded and honestly pretty absurd. Its simply not smart business.

I believe you may be overconfident. Most of us didn't know about the midnight release at Walmart. Hearing about it at the last minute, I drove to Walmart because it's close & without any expectations.

Even though I have my pre-order arriving at 9:50am FedEx tomorrow, I still bought one when seeing there was no line at Walmart. I'll give it to my brother.

My local Apple store was covered on the 11:00PM news, the line was at least 40 people long.

Little did they know :)

Don't kid yourself, lines will still form, demand is high, some of us just got lucky.

when my Sams club open at 7AM, there are three people and I am the second. I knew I should have not come too early, 5:45AM.

they got 16GB black and white, 32GB black and white, and 64GB black only

I would have to semi agree if true but their 600 dollar a share stock would argue otherwise.

About 200 people at highland village Houston.

In Metarie, LA here. Two separate lines (pickup and regular) and just me in pick up and maybe 20 others in cue for regular. Probably should have come later...

Not for Apple where they have the ONLY product people seem to want. I preordered ours but the reason I'm having to go to Best Buy at 5AM is because last year my parents didn't want one until AFTER they heard their friends saying how desirable this sold out product was. So now Apple has 2 more customers that probably never would have given the iPad a shot if it weren't for the "out of stock everywhere" buzz. :D

Been at my local Verizon store since about 5:15. One other person Got here at 6:30. One hour to go and we're still the only two here.

Was talking to one of the employees while he was waiting to be let in. He said they didn't get many in the 64gb size, and he thinks they only got one in white. I'll save that one for someone else, I'm going black this time!

So I got here an hour earlier than I needed to, but it's worth it knowing I get first pick! Time's going by fast, I had a million "with friends" and drawing games to catch up on.

I have to laugh at the irony of sitting outside the Verizon store, using a jailbreak app to tether my iPad to my phone.

I was 2nd in line at my local Tesco Extra store at the midnight launch. (Turned up around 10:30pm).
By the time I left, only around 5-10 other people in the queue.

Let's see which sounds better on the news:

"All iPads sold out before noon! Great success for Apple once again." or

"In other news, Apple made plenty of iPads this year. If you feel like buying one, head down to any store anywhere in the next week."

This doesn't look good for me if I wanted to sell on craigs

Here's why I don't think craigslist will work like it did with the iPad 2:
Apple took 2 days to sellout their initial stock
Availability in several countries
Available at several retailors

All of those suggest that Apple has plenty to go around which means fewer people willing to pay $100 over retail. I think that there will be some on the shelf at a few places tomorrow and readily available within a week or so.

Personally I see no reason to upgrade for the screen and I only use wifi. Why spend a couple of hundred to upgrade? I'm sure that I'm not the only one that feels like this. In a month or so I will look on craigslist for a used one for less than retail :)

I'm hoping to score a cheap iPad 2 this weekend for a friend.

Another user put it better than I ever will. I'll just quote him:

"If nobody is interested in a product, limited supply is meaningless.

If everybody wants a product, why limit supply to create demand that's already there? You're just working against yourself, hurting potential sales and creating a vacuum for someone else to fill. There's no upside. This is basic business and economics."

Back to topic: Only two people at the Radioshack I visited, and apparently the manager said they got plenty in stock, of all models.

i dont see the demand like a new xbox or ps3..

move people are happy with their ipad2, so it should be easy to get a launch ipad3...

looks like most people were able to just show up and get them 5 minutes before the stores open, except apple stores...

Just got back from a Apple Store in the UK, about 10 people left in the que with about 15 ipads of each mem size left. (im guessing that, by the way they had them spaced out on the genius bar. so plenty left.

Walked in and got my Apple TV though :D

Here in Osaka, Japan (which is a major city)....there were about 35 people in the 4g model line when I arrived 30 minutes before opening and a few more joined after me. There was a smaller wifi line. I didn't know what to expect, but I was surprised there weren't more so close to opening time.

On the news, they showed another store, I assume in Tokyo, that had 450 people in line! Last year, since the iPad 2 was the first iPad to hit here, the Tokyo line had 1200 people!

For anyone waiting in Best Buy, they have online "Find in store" available if you still don't know what your store will have
