iBook G3 - 1 hinge repair (not an Apple flaw - cleaner tripped on cable and pulled it to the floor).

There is also now a row of dead pixels, but it is 7 years old and the pixels didn't die until after the machine had been retired.

iMac G3 - 8 years old. - No issues and is still being used on a daily basis for word processing.

iMac G4 - in constant use for 4 and a half years - no issues

Hope that helps

15'' PB G4 1.5Ghz. Have had it for 35 months and counting. One ALS replacement (something on the logic board), one logic board replacement (lower memory slot), one power adapter replacement. All three cases were covered. Apple service has been good, but the hardware reliability has not been stellar. I am almost expecting that the thing will quit some time within a year (as far as I know, the lower memory slot issue is not fixed, and logic board replacements do not "fix" the problem but just buy you more time).

My gf's 867 Ti PB has had its screen replaced initially, due to the infamous white blotches, but has been flawless since (~4.5 years).

iMac G5 2.1Ghz 20'' iSight - SuperDrive sometimes takes some convincing to eject CDs. Not a big deal for me (who needs an optical drive at work, where everything is installed and backed up through external HDs or via network?). Other than that, the machine has been flawless for 2 years.
My co-worker's iMac (same specs) has been flawless also.

My another co-worker's 15'' PB is a lemon that constantly needs parts replaced.

Apple MBP 2 GHZ (Bad Batteries Overnighted it) 1 Year Mark
Apple MBP 2 GHZ (Bad Left Fan) 1 and a half Year Mak
Apple MBP 2 GHZ (Bad Motherboard) This was the geniuses fault after fixing the fans... so they gave me a brand new MBP after that all failed!

Apple MBP C2D 2.2 GHZ (No Problems) < 1 Year Old

Apple MB (Sister's) > 1 Year (Needs a new Battery.. Apple Care)

Apple MB (Mom's) > 1 Year No problems.

Been using Apple computers for only 2 months, and have had one repair (they actually just replaced the entire unit).

Mac 128K upgraded to Mac Plus: no problems
Mac SE: analog board failure
Mac IIsi: no issues
PM 7200/75: no issues with the two I owned
PM 7500: no issues
PB 1400/cs: no issues
G4/400 (AGP): video card failure fixed under warranty (not Apple's issue)
iMac FP (17", 1GHz): no issues
G3/600 14" iBook: no issues
G3/900 14" iBook: two logic board failures (both fixed gratis by Apple)
C2D 15" MBP: no issues
C2D 20" iMac: no issues

And no issues with the IW II, LW/Select 00, iPod, 3 iPod nanos, and 1 Shuffle I've purchased over the years. I did have a color issue with the 15" Multi-Sync Monitor I bought with my first 7200, but that was fixed under warranty.

Nov 94 PowerMac 8100 AV - Zero Problems
May 99 PowerMac G3 450 - Zero Problems
May 04 PowerBook 15" 1.5 - Zero Problems (my pride and joy)
Dec 04 PowerMac G5 Dual 2.5 - Zero Problems

Not bad in my opinion, and the fact that I've only had 3 work machines in over 13 years of professional use is testament to the quality of the hardware.

The G5 still does all I need it to (design/prepress) with ease so will be sticking around for at least another year (touch wood).

I intend to replace my super reliable PowerBook with a MBP this year, but confess to being very nervous about the current QC issues.

PowerMac 7200 for about 3 years. No problems apart from a flat PRAM battery.
MacBook Pro (Mar06) - replacement logic board due to the whining noise. Other than that no problems.

Been using Mac's since 1997, used around 6 computers during that time and other than software issues or hard drive failures, they all ran perfect.

The only mac products I had problems with was the original iPod shuffle which died right out of the box (but was replaced for free), and the Applevision 1710 monitor which lasted only about 2 years and cost around $500. Swore I'd never buy an apple monitor again since then.

So knock on wood I guess they say.

In my house there are a number of macs. I use a C2D mini daily and that's not had any problems, but it's not old - august of this year. I have an iBook g4 (800 so 2003?) and that's fine, though I had to send the first one back as it had a weirdly sensitive trackpad, they gave me a new one and picked up the old. No probs. My brother has an eMac which has been flawless for years, again though it was a swap - I seem to remember the first one just died in the week after purchase. PM G4 MDD - no probs at all but NOISY. My dad still uses an old G4 400 which he bought used years ago. No trouble. I have a G3 400 tower which runs 24/7 as a server. Flawless thus far. The only Mac in the house with an actual problem is the G3 350 iMac in my wardrobe which sometimes freaks out in the screen department.

Not too bad and Apple sorted all the probs I've had.

Here is my list

G3 Lombard Laptop – No problems what so ever
G3 Snow Laptop – Battery issue
G4 14” iBook – Logic board, cd, display. Got a replacement
G4 15’ 1.5 – No Issues
G4 12” 1.5 – No issues, got I love this model
G4 17” iSight iMac – No issues
G4 17” non-iSight – Video problems, power supply issues. Got a replacement

The one and only Mac i have i bought 4 1/2 years ago. 1.25 iMac G4 17" I have never done anything to it. One USB port is giong bad (sometimes it doesn't play nice with a peripheral). I am hoping to order something next month but so far this thing is going strong.

I don't know that hardware quality has actually gone down as much as with Apple's marketshare growing, we have more people who buying. With a larger number of computers out there, even if the percentage of DOAs stays that same, the number will increase. Add tht to the increased coverage of Apple products in the press and you soon start seeing more stories about bad Apples.

Wow, this will show my age :)

Mac Plus: no problems
Mac LC II: no problems
Mac Performa 6300CD: monitor connection went bad after 2 years
iBook: no problems
PowerMac G5: installing Leopard made hard-drive crash (it was nearly full-so my fault)
Powerbook G4: keyboard ghosts
iMac (Intel 24"): no problems (hopefully none)
[future] Macbook Air: perfection ;)

Meh my MacBook Pro is the only one I had issues with and that has had go in uhhh 3 times in the last year. I still like it though :D

first computer was a Power mac G5 2.5. Had that for 4 years and no problem. Just the CD drive died last month.

Second computer was an iBook 2.0 G4. Had an issue with the monitor going out after 11 months of owning it. It was still covered under the one year warrenty.

Third mac was a macbookpro 2.0 core duo. Sent it in four times. Buzzing issue, logic board issue, cd drive issue... but all is well now... :D

Let's see...my old PowerMac 8500 I had for about 4 years, never needed a repair. My G4 Quicksilvel made it 5 years with no repair needed (just sold it). My iMac is only a few months old, but so far so good.

At work, we've had an old iMac, eMac, 2 iBooks, a PowerBook, 2 MBPs, 1 MacBook, a G5 PowerMac...I think that's it. One of the iBooks was a dud. Went in for repairs a dozen times over a 3 year period. Finally got a replacement. The PowerBook went in two or three times with logic board issues. Other than that, none of the others ever went in for repair.

12" PB Rev C (First Mac....best computer ever owned)-> Zero issues
15" PB G4 Rev D -> Major issues....logic board failed twice in 6 months-sold immediately after second replacement
20" iMac G5 Pre-iSight -> 1 issue = Loud PSU-never fixed
Mini G4 -> Zero issues
15" MBP Core Duo -> 2 Major issues....heat, whine - Sold..didn't bother to fix
15" PB G4 Hi-Res -> 1 issue = faulty display-fixed and used happily afterwards
15" MBP C2D Pre-SR -> 1 issue = grainy display-fixed
20" iMac Al SR-> Zero Issues (Second best computer i've ever owned)
13.3 BlackBook SR-> Zero issues...thus far

Wow that was an interesting trip down memory lane

Got my 12" PowerBook G4 in June of 2005 and since then it has been in four times, one was Apples fault. The SuperDrive failed twice and the fan needed to be replaced.

My familys old PowerMac G3 has never had any problems, solid as a rock. Too bad it's so slow.

I've owned a 12" PB for over three years. The hard drive failed after 16 months, but was covered under AppleCare. Shipped my PB off for repair on a Monday and got it back Wednesday that same week. Turn around was fast.
