I've had Macs since 2006 and the only problem I've had was with the scroll wheel on the Mighty Mouse (which they replaced for free) but now I have a magic mouse so I don't have to deal with that.

I've been buying my own Macs for ten years now, and I've had very few problems with only one major repair.

PowerMac G3 Blue and White has had no problems and is still running!

PowerBook G4 15" Aluminum first revision was sent in for a screen replacement due to white blotches. Was repaired under warranty along with a SuperDrive replacement that I didn't know it needed.

Mac mini Intel early 2006 had no problems.

PowerBook G4 15" Aluminum final revision had a battery replaced due to recall.

Mac mini Intel mid 2007 had no problems.

MacBook Pro early 2008 (last pre-unibody) had a defective battery replaced under warranty.

The iMac in my sig is 2 years old this month (bought it November 2007). No repairs needed yet. The only "fix" I've had to do was a SMC reset to reestablish connectivity with my FireWire external drive.

Now, pardon me while I find the nearest wooden surface to knock... :D
(JK. Actually, I won't have to start knocking for another year; I have AppleCare.)

I've been using Macs for 4+ years, had only one "problem" so far.

iBook G4, working fine but was stolen.
MacBook, working fine, logic board problem that doesn't recognize the battery, still boots OS X and works.
MacBook Pro, working fine.

I've had my MB for three years now and have had it repaired once - the backlight started flickering, and the bluetooth kept dropping - both problems happened at the same time.

I've also had the battery replaced because it started to bulge.

Mac Pro 8 core, kept for 15 months, 0 repairs
MBP 15" kept for 1 year 0 repairs
black MB, kept for 4 months 0 repairs
iMac 20" owned and still owned for 1.5 years, 0 repairs
MBP 13" owned and still own for 2 months, 0 repairs

I've had a 2.16mhz C2D MacBook for nearly 3 years (AppleCare on the unit ends in February, 2010). I had some dead pixels on my monitor and the Apple tech replaced the monitor for free under the plan. I've also had a battery replaced even past the 1-year mark under it, but that's probably because I got lucky and ran into a nice tech. Had the battery chargers replaced twice.

I got the MBP brand new for $150 dollars by doing an online offer site (see http://www.joshclark.com/blog/?p=167), and it wasn't a hard decision to spend whatever it was back then to cover a machine I got nearly for free. That said, I'm definitely going to be getting AppleCare on the next MacBook Pro I get, which unfortunately won't be as cheap since those offer sites really aren't legit anymore (well, they weren't really legit back then either with that one exception).

The machine still does everything I need (most intensive thing I do is play 1080p .mkv(h264) files and some analysis on SPSS), but I plan on getting a new MacBook Pro when do they a complete redesign. I'm HOPING this is done in October 2010, although it might be Early 2011, and that means my machine will be about 4 years old when I have to replace it. I'm kind of fiending to get an iMac just for fun in the meantime.

started off with a PM G4 last year, i killed that haha, PM G5, worked fine, still works to my knowledge, now i've got a c2d MBP, works fine, never had any issues :D

around 40 Mac's since 1993

Very view problems with Power PC Macs but Intel is a different story:

  • Mac Mini core duo 3 x mainboard replaced (same mac mini)
  • Mac Mini Core 2 duo main borad replaced
  • Intel Quad MacPro one year of trouble and whole mac had been replaced by Apple after 12 month
  • a couple of HD's gone
  • some RAM problems

As you can see from my signature I have had my computers from Aug 2007 and Jan 2008. I had my harddrive crash in iMac. It was replaced under AppleCare. I had a key fall off of my MBP, took it in and had it replaced in like 5 minutes.

I bought my current and only iMac on Black Friday 2003. I have 20" PPC iMac. My hard drive crashed in 2005. That's the only time.
I am waiting for Black Friday 2009 and I may buy a MacMini or iMac depending on discounts, if any. :apple:

Had this Mac for almost 4 and a half years now; never needed a single repair -- or even maintenance beyond RAM upgrades and occasionally blowing out the dust. Had an iMac G4 before that, and it didn't have a single problem up through the day I sold it, after 3 years.

PowerMac G4 (Sept 2000) No problems, even original Hard Drive.
Mac Pro (2008) Faulty GPU - Replaced 3 times with AppleCare. Collected from Cornwall to London and back, within 5 days. Excellent service.

Been using Macs for 16 years...

Oct. 1993 - Dec. 1998 - Performa 600CD has never needed any repairs. Last time I used it, it still worked.

Dec. 1998 - Oct. 2003 - iMac 15" G3 (Bondi Blue) had the optical drive replaced during the first year under warranty. I think the Mrs. killed it playing games. Last time I used it, it still worked.

Oct. 2003 - Present - iMac 17" G4
had the logic board replaced during the last few months of AppleCare due to graphics failure. It's the Mac I'm currently writing this message on and is still used everyday.

I've had an iBook G3, PowerMac G4, Power Mac G5, a couple of Intel minis and an aluminium iMac over the last 6 years which have all been fine.

On the other hand, my 3 year old Core Duo Mac Book Pro has needed 3 new batteries (2 under warranty) a set of fans and a complete screen and top case replacement. Thankfully, I took out AppleCare for it, otherwise it would have been scrapped by now.

It's actually the only computer I've had during the last 15 years which has needed to be taken back to be fixed.

Ipod Nano (2nd Gen): 0
Ipod Video (5th Gen; White): 0
Ipod Touch (1st gen): 0
Ipod Nano (4th gen): 0

2007 Black Macbook: 0

Macbook Mid 2006 (white intel); keyboard chipped (known defect) replaced, and magsafe charger cable melted (known defect) replacement.

Macbook late 2008 alu unibody; none.

hope the new i7 holds up as well as the last 2. The 2006 macbook is still in daily use 3.5 years in :D

I have owned an early 2008 Macbook Pro for 1.2 years and so far nothing has needed replacing (not even the doomed 8600 GPU)
This is my first Mac and I am damn happy with it so far!

From my Apple ][c to my most recent iMac, I've never had any issues that were machine related. For a while I had some difficulty with my G4/500 with odd crashes, but this was due to cheap 3rd party memory.

4 Macs Currently:

iMac from October 2007
MacBook Pro from January 2008
MacBook Alum 13 inch from February 2009
Mac Mini from June 2009

Yes they are all pretty new, but not a problem with any of them.

iBook G4 12" 1GHz, bought in September 2004, had to have a logic board replacement after the infamous 18 months.

Alu iMac C2D 20" 2GHz, bought in October 2007. No repairs yet.

white MacBook C2D 2.4GHz, bought in August 2008. No repairs yet, might bring it in for replacing/repairing the top case.

Unibody MacBook Pro 15" C2D 2.53GHz, bought in December 2008. No repairs, but got stolen in June 2009. May the next owner has less luck.

Unibody MacBook Pro 17" C2D 2.8GHz, bought in June, two days after my 15MBP left me for no reasons. Works fine.

In the end I have to say the iBook, even though it had to get repaired, was the best Apple machine I ever had in terms of stability and durability of the notebook and Mac OS X it has on it.
The Intel machines come close, but they got more quirks than the PPC ones I have worked with.
Gaining market share might be not as good as we might think it is, as it introduces more weak points in Apple's production.

Does replacing the PRAM Battery count as a repair? If it does you can ignore all below.

Gigabit Ethernet Dual 500Mhz G4 - Bought Late 2000 - No repairs (mind you I haven't turned it on in quite a while.)

Quicksilver Dual 800Mhz G4 - Bought Late 2001 - No Repairs Still runs everyday as my server. Is on 27/4 and never needs restarting, unless the power goes out.

Quad 2.5Ghz G5 - Bought late 2005 - No repairs, use it every day, it is my main workstation, but I have ordered a new iMac to replace it.
