As elated as I am at the fact that I've been able to unlock my 3G there is something about the 2G that has kept my SIM firmly in place even since the release of yellowsn0w. I've actually got 3 2Gs (1 still sealed in the box) together with my 3G, I guess I must just love iPhones

Had my 2G (or 2.5G if you're picky) since Nov 2007.

Yep, got it just after the unlock was released :)

Used it right through until August 2008 when I got myself a Blackberry BOLD.
Messenger was fun for a while, but I missed the iPhone too much so I've gone back to it.

Been looking at the 3G version, but obviously the unlock has only just been released and I couldn't warrant the £550 to get an Italian one (sold unlocked) and now it's far to near to MacWorld to risk buying if a newer / updated version could be released. Although I'm not looking to take this thread off on a tanget.

Plus 2G is fine really. I only really use only to refresh the MacRumors page anyways, and GPS just isn't a strong enough requirement for my needs.

Good idea for a thread though.

I'm still a proud owner of a 2g iPhone

I'm using the 1st gen for one reason, and one reason alone: prepaid SIM. I top up my SIM card with $25 every 90 days. That works out to be only slightly more than $8/month.

Sure, I don't have unlimited EDGE, but with wifi all over, I'm not missing it much.

1. Aluminum will always be better than plastic
2. Flat thinner backing than the 3G
3. Too many ppl own a 3G, 1st gen 2G (I'm sorry 2.5G) means more to me
4. No worry of jailbreaking/unlocking future firmwares
5. Not to mention, jailbreaking/unlocking much easier :p

and the most important
6. paying 6 bucks a month for internet can't be beat :D

Still first gen owner and still love it.

Probably going to upgrade when 3G rolls out locally in upstate NY, but still nada.

great to c so many 1st gen owners...Add me to this list...I love my 1st gen iphone..
I had not much problems with my iphone so far...and the only complaint is the slow edge network...I can live with that (although i use the internet a lot and it helped me develop the art of patience). Otherwise my iphone 1g rocks. I just hope apple keeps the updates coming for iphone 1g...and doesnt forget it for the iphone 3g.
I personally dont like the iphone 3g cause of the plastic and the curved back...And for the 1st time I liked my phone for more than a year...(never used to like a phone for more than a year...so would go change it for another model). I hope not to change it...until apple can come up with a 1st gen iphone design with 32 gb..(which i dont think will come anywayz)

Although I have an iPhone 3G and an iPhone 2G... I much prefer the iPhone 2G. The original iPhone was built like a tank... I wish they kept that sort of thing going in the 3G version... oh well. 3G isn't even that fast either... often times I can't even tell the difference. I switched to EDGE the other day and web pages felt like they loaded the same.... meh. 3G is way over-rated. I don't use GPS that much either because I don't like having a dead phone very quickly.

Hey Thanks, since u have both 2g and 3g iphone...u know it better...and also i will remove my complaint regarding EDGE. I am all set to continue with the best phone I ever had (iphone 2g), until apple can bring the original build with 32gb.

I still have the original.

I was tempted by the 3G when it came out, but the AT&T service is atrocious enough that I am uncertain if I want to extend my contract even longer just to get a new phone now.

I am still on the fence though because I really can't see me wanting to use any other phone. I guess I would move to the 3G if I knew my call quality would improve (less dropped calls, less calls failed, a speaker I could actually hear through) but I do dig rocking the original.

As for 3G... I don't think text messages go through as data, so I don't understand why texting would be faster. I own a 3G iPhone and texting seems like the same speed. (I own two first gen iPhones too).

Text messages don't go through as data, they're still texts. But the Sending bar moves far quicker than on the first gen iPhone. Especially sending long texts to multiple recipients. It does it twice as fast, if not faster.

Not surprising considering 3G isn't (just) data either. Why do people not understand this? 3G is the NETWORK - calls, texts, data services, everything. All dumb-phones that don't need data plans are still 3G these days. Haven't you ever read anything on this board about calls being clearer over 3G

I refused to purchase the 3G phone with the hideous ----IMHO ---plastic case. I went out and got a 2.5G for a great price and am extremely happy with the phone so far.

I will hang onto my phone as long as it still works, or when a more compelling refresh is released.

Simple, HATE AT&T!. I've been Cingular(now ATT) customer for years before I switched to Tmo. It's a world of difference in terms of customer service. I'll never go back to ATT unless I can save load of money. (very unlikely) I do like to look of 3G but can't use on Tmo. :(

I have a zero day iPhone and I love it. I'd like to be on 3G but for me it surely isn't worth the extra $10/month and to lose 200 text messages/month even if the 3G coverage in my area is stellar.

Got my 8gb refurb in October 2007 and still LOVE it. My girlfriend at the time said I was nuts and that she would never own one. Last month I used my available upgrade to upgrade her phone to the 3G and she loves it. Guess who's laughing now.

I still have my 1st Gen. I was waiting to see if any new announcements were made yesterday-since there were not, I may upgrade when 3G is available in my area.

I have a 1st gen Iphone.....16g. I like it and like the metal case over the plastic case of the 3g....just wish it had the speed of the 3g. :(

I've been thinking about downgrading to the first gen again. I have 2 of them. I just don't know if I'd freak out because of the lack of GPS and 3G. Once I don't have it... that's when I'll need it... but when I do have it... I never use it... go figure.
