I'm a avid G-Shock collector owning 27 of them. Many of them are Mudmasters, Mudmans, Kings, standard squares and a couple of ProTreks. All are atomic and solar. I just bought an AW Series 3 + cellular last week. I'm wearing this thing every day and getting very used to it. My concern is about my G-Shocks as I see them getting way less wrist time. I could easily sell them off BUT many are from Japan that are not sold here and discontinued. Many are selling at crazy prices now so if I ever wanted to buy them again, it would be prohibitively expensive so I'm not going there. I'll try to wear them but having all of them sitting in a watch box barely worn gets you thinking. I have some that only saw my wrist once in the last year but can't bear to sell. Logic says to sell off if I'm to adopt the AW. My friend returned his AW just for this reason as he had to either adopt the AW or sell off his G-Shocks. He chose to keep the G-Shocks. Only time will tell for me.
The way I see it is either sell off the G-Shocks and regret it later or keep the G-Shocks and wonder if you should have sold them. While not the same as a watch I have debated on the selling or keeping some guns that I have but never have because I thought I might regret it later.

I keep all my watches. I know one day I will fell like wearing one of them again instead of the Apple watch. Things change.

Well said. My wife got me a watch for Christmas but it hasn't been opened yet since we are doing Christmas on the 27th since she worked the 24th 25th and 26th.

I have to be honest, everytime I see a beautiful automatic watch for around $350, I question owning an Apple Watch.

Yes, I know they are two different beasts. But there’s something special about a precision watch with moving parts, that will/can last a lifetime.

Don't forget, to last a lifetime you have to service the movement every 4-7 years for $200-300 at an independent watchmaker, and possibly replace worn parts that add to the cost (esp if you wait too long). Or if you get a Seiko or similar automatic you can replace the movement entirely for about $100.

I have several Seiko automatics, and some Lew and Huey or their NTH line of watches from Janis trading that use Seiko built movements, and I enjoy them as much as my Rolex and Omega watches.

I’ve been wearing a Garmin Forerunner 235 for about a year and a half but will be switching to an Apple Watch in about three weeks. My gf bought one for me yesterday but I can’t open it till my birthday later this month - it has only been a day and its already torture. Before my Garmin, I wore simple Swatch watches. I’m really excited to switch over to an Apple Watch soon. If anyone’s got some advice regarding apps or taking care of the watch (externally and internally), I’d gladly be informed.

42mm SG S3 GPS only by the way - there are no LTE models here in the Netherlands.

Welcome!

Apps — one of the neater third-party app tricks on mine is a camera app called Slow Shutter, which has a remote trigger app on the Watch to trip the shutter on the iPhone app.

One way to try apps is to just let it load all your compatible apps automatically when you first set it up. Try them all, see which ones you like, and remove the ones you don’t.

Watch care — I rinse mine off in the shower (no need to soap it up, though) and wipe it with my bath towel. Easy, and it looks new. Been doing it since the day I got my first-gen steel-and-sapphire model.

Figured I'd post here instead of starting a new thread --- hope the OP doesn't mind.

Ever since I got my Apple Watch late last year my interest in watches has exploded. I've spent a lot of time watching videos about watches on Youtube and have even went out and purchased a cheap pocket watch, took it apart, and put it back together again. Though I have a wish to buy a mechanical watch, my budget will probably prevent such a purchase in the next 5+ years. But even if I could afford one, I'm not sure if I would because of the utility I have with my Apple Watch. Doesn't mean I wouldn't like to have a mechanical watch someday. Watching the movements of a mechanical watch --- I could do that for hours. :p

This post is about this video from Watchfinder & Co. - a youtuber whom I've become addicted to watching about watches. (I have no relation or connection to the video).

I'm glad he didn't outright dismiss the Apple Watch. Interesting to see him start out showing how quarts watches almost killed the mechanical watches but yet there is such a thing as driving a Porsche 911 Turbo versus a normal everyday car -- uses for both.

I wore watches when I was younger but that ended soon as college started because my cellphone became my timepiece. My wife bought me a nice Fossil watch but I stopped wearing that after a few years because my weight ballooned and constantly changing the links was tiresome. lol.

I still feel like it would be a terrible waste of $ to buy a mechanical watch I'd only wear a few times a year. Still want one though. I imagine a lot of Porsche 911 Turbo users have a daily driver.

Nope, don't mind at all.

Go snag a Seiko 5 for $50-75 and see how you get along with it. It's not fundamentally different from a no-date Sub when it comes to occasional wear. :D
