Why’s putting something on your credit card means you can’t afford it?!

I put almost everything on credit card simply because I don’t carry cash, don’t want to use my debit card at random places and for online purchases. That really doesn’t mean I can’t afford something.
I think OP means paying for it on a credit card with no means of clearing the balance before you start paying interest.

What a useless thread. It should read, how many of you bought the 8 and are jealous of those getting the X? So rationalize that $14 a month as not being able to afford.

Jeesh, we are talking about $800-$1150 devices we are carrying around in our pocket for either model. Do we really need to is the question? Hell yeah!!!

I was talking about the United States which will be a thing by the end of the year. For 1,000 yes I expected to have it. That way we don't see 3G speeds when Networks are congested

This is a carrier concern and unless it’s widely available no manufacturer would waste any R&D putting it into their phones.

If you watched the movie the accountant you would know about why that balance is fake.
oh.. but hey.. regardless of how i phrased my earlier response to you..
i'm curious why, according to the movie?

i watched it but i'm not remembering the connection.
thx

My current situation is this -

Need to save a minimum of $1,500 for 1099 taxes. Only have $800 now.

Getting bill credits for the Google Pixel promo which deducts $13 for 24 months on my T-Mobile bill.

Still have $400 balance on the S7 edge with T-Mobile. Adds $25. What should be $57 cost me $82.

I work like a dog even with Medi-Cal and EBT. Basically 6-7 days per week. Not one of these guys who drinks all day and free loads off taxpayers. Every two months I need an oil change.

Two weeks ago, I needed to get my rotors replaced for $160. I have to keep replacing new tires every 20 months which cost me $200 from each side. I basically have to save 5% for car maintenance not including gas.

For me to get the X, I would need to pay the entire balance on the S7e or sign up for Verizon again. Because I can't do a T-Mobile Jump since I already sold the S7e.

Where all carriers trap you is them selling you more lines you don't need. That's why no rush. And I figure by understanding the iPhone design / specs patterns, the iPhone in 2019 will go metal again. They change the rear materials within every generation.

Just going to sit back and watch the fireworks.

Gen 1 (metal 1x, plastic 2x)
iPhone
iPhone 3G
iPhone 3Gs

Design - 2G
Specs - 3Gs

Gen 2 (glass 2x, metal 3x, plastic 1x)
iPhone 4
iPhone 4s
iPhone 5
iPhone 5c
iPhone 5s
iPhone SE

Design - 5s
Specs - SE

Gen 3 (metal 3x, glass 1x)
iPhone 6
iPhone 6s
iPhone 7
iPhone 8

Design - 7 matte black
Specs - 8 Plus

Gen 4
iPhone X

Next iPhone X goes glass. The following iPhone design in 2019 will look the same at the front but might go metal.

No rush to buy it when I can't afford to spend $1100 right now and know how much it improves by the third model from each gen (3gs, 5s, 7)... 3-5 year gen cycles.

Samsung, Motorola, LG and, HTC have it build into their current phone. The big 4 att,VZW, TMO and Sprint will have it by end of the year. Vzw Nationwide by then

So about that metal backing... are you forgetting the fact that wireless charging doesn't work through metal? At least not ATM. Hence the reason for the glass backing on the 8 and the X.

No I did not, I'm still in an iPhone 6+.
I read your first post, I don't fully understand your hunt and "suspicion" about people not paying their bills and acting irresponsibly. It reads that you want one and either can't afford one or are making a reluctant decision to use self control. I have a team of corporate lawyers working for me, they make an honest living, nothing to write home about. I'm suspicious why you needed to add that personal part into your do-good query. Like "I could have one if I wanted to but I am more responsible than you".

How many of you are buying the X, but really shouldn't be? I'm not talking about people who choose to spend all of their extra (fun) income on the phone, I'm talking about the people who are putting it on a credit card, putting off paying important bills or getting other things that are much more needed? I'm a corporate lawyer and can comfortably afford the iPhone X (albeit somewhat barely). I'm also aware of carrier subsidies and layaway plans, but the point still stands as you end up paying the full price of the device one way or another.

I just have this suspicion that the hordes of people crying about how expensive it is will still, absent better judgment, fall into the Apple trap and buy one anyways and think about the consequences later.

Just as a side note, i'm not sure what the demand for the iPhone X is actually going to be. I haven't heard about anyone I know who is planning on buying this phone. And in fact, if i don't actively search out information, i don't hear about it much at all. I'm starting to think this is an Apple strategy of deliberately constricting supply to induce scarcity thus upticking demand.

This is a seemingly smart question but in reality silly.

Thanks to corporate (you are a corporate lawyer right? so indirectly their success is tied to your success...or maybe their plight means more billable hours ;) ) America, folks of all walks are buying things they can’t “really” afford. It’s the culture. It’s spawned credit card debts, refi and reverse mortgages, not to mention layaways.

Corporations can’t afford to pay the masses more then a few pennies over what’s a laughable minimum wage, yet if they’re public, they have a duty to stockholders to continue pushing products to those same masses. It just doesn’t make sense in the long run.

But sure, use Apple iPhone x as an example. Never mind there are way more expensive items out there that doesn’t generate as much productive value.

Plus, apple can’t have cases out there that costs the same, or more, then the iPhone itself right? dolce and gabbana.

Earlier today you said you had a 7+?!

Lol if you look at their filings they aren’t even putting a close amount of investments into giga lte.

Nothing mentioned on earnings call, statements or anything. Nobody will have it by the end of the year and nobody will have it next year. The iPhone ‘s modem has the capability to run 600mbps on lte which no carrier can come even close too.

It’s funny how you’re saying the phone doesnt have technology for technology that isn’t even available yet.

Haha, Just thought of a good example - shiny car rims!

In a BMW forum, I've seen people asking which set of $4-5K rims they should buy, and most are financing or leasing their rides.

Oh my gosh, rims cost that much? I don't think I've ever paid more than $500 and some change for four of them.

Yeah, many people live outside their means. Most are paycheck to paycheck, nothing saved and in debt up to the eye balls.

The future looks bleak.

I couldn't afford to pay for it outright as I'm buying a new (or new to me) car soon, but the monthly installments makes it a bit easier to handle.

And there's nothing wrong with that. It's still a means of you paying for something, as long as you can justify the payments based off your income, then you're perfectly in your right to do so.

i stated that I had an iPhone 7+ for a while and sold it to go back to my 6+.
Right....I smell a troll. You sold your 7 to go back to a 6?? I am sure, it's so common for people to downgrade, especially well to do corporate lawyers.

Mommy needs to keep an eye on your internet activity.
