I've always been curious about buying a Mac. Got a 3g iPhone and it made me want a Mac but the price was holding me off. After my PC got it's last virus...even though I had the most up to date virus protection, I made a decision to get a Macbook Pro...well I'm waiting for the latest refresh which I'm hoping will be between Jan-March...then I will get the Macbook Pro!

I was fed up with giving maintenance to my Windows computer because I like my computers to stay as fast as possible forever. So I switched to Ubuntu, but my laptop was probably one of the least supported one in Ubuntu... So there I was, thinking: "If only there was an operating system with all the Perks of Linux, and the easiness of using the GUI for everything in Windows..." Then along came a friend of mine with his blackbook, used it for about 5 mins and I was hooked.

So I guess what I'm saying is that OS X is perfect for me, perfect balance between the perks of linux and the easiness of windows.

What the OP is describing is the beginning of Apple Fanboyism. :p

I've used Apple machines at school way back when I was in the 6th grade or so but never actually owned one until now.

i suppose that (indirectly) I switched because of the iPhone -- my first experience using a mac for a significant amount of time was when I got an internship doing iPhone development. Objective-C is a little wonky, but I got to use a 13" macbook and (eventually) they got me a mac mini to use. I liked them enough and found that OS X is a nice compromise between windows (good for office work) and linux (good for software development).

At the time I had a $300 gift certificate that I won in a software development competition, so I used it towards a 13" MBP. I paid $1199 - 100 (student disctount) - 300 (gift cert) - 200 (eBay earnings from selling the free iPod touch), so in total I was out about $650 for the macbook pro. At this point I use it so much that it's replaced my desktop, definitely worth it.

...I started with an iPod mini 6GB, got an iPod photo 60GB, got a 4GB nano, got a 1st gen iPod touch 16GB = they all worked fine on winXP and working for the govt - winXP didn't bother me (learned behavior)...

Waiting for the iPod touch to have a still/video camera included before I jump to a 64GB (hopefully) 4th gen model...

It was more when winVista arrived and the refusal to deal with that ****** OS...the switch to intel and the inclusion of bootcamp intrigued me so now my home network has winXP, OS X and win7 machines running on it:D

I got mine about a year after my first gen. ipod, but thats pretty much a coincidence, i mostly got it b/c the university i transferred to has a lot of macs on campus and i wanted compatibility. That and my celeron dell was pretty much garbage.

I bought my Al Macbook because I was sick and tired of ****** Dell hardware and I knew someone who had just bought one and was rockin' it pretty good with Windows on it. So I've been running Vista Ultimate for more then a year now with no issues! Windows runs better on Mac hardware even without being optimized for it! All these horror stories about Vista, I have no idea what they're talking about.

I got an iPhone 3gs in July this year and fell in love with it, however wasn't really considering making the switch to mac. But then in November I decided to go back to study and do a bachelor degree in audio production at SAE Institute. Though a special deal with SAE and Apple I got a mid range 15" mbp with Adobe CS4 Master Collection, Logic Pro, Applecare for au$500.... cant say it's not a fantastic deal. Its my first mac and it had been 15 years since I last used one however I prolly wont be switching back to Windows any time soon

Three months ago I switched to a macbook pro after fifteen years of pc use at home and with my business. I was led down this path as a result of my iPhone use mainly. I wonder how many new recruits Apple have got through the iPhone platform?

I'm in the same boat as you. So far loving my two Macs.

I got an iPhone 3G when they came out last year and that turned me on to Apple. It's easy to use and I'm tired of my anti-virus software running constantly so that's why I'm switching to Mac.

Like many others..I bought an iPod many moons ago. After having the iPod for a few years and the switchover from PowerPC to Intel I made the switch. I bought the first generation MacBook Pro and fell in love with OS X! I've since traveled to Cupertino to see the HQ, and been a large follower of all things Apple ever since!

I haven't yet switched completely to a Mac. I have an iMac desktop and a Thinkpad laptop. The laptop is due for a replacement and the next gen MBP's will be considered. I've been a long time PC user.

I'd say the following two factors were more important to my iMac purchase over the iPhone.

- The switch to intel processors. It's now easier than ever to have software that runs on PC & Mac which produce completely compatible files that can be shared between them. Also, while I don't have windows installed on my iMac, it's a nice fallback if I should ever have the need.

- The fact that I can vpn and make remote connections to my work machine means I don't need to run business software (office 2007, database utilities etc) on my home machines anymore.

The iphone is nice though.

I have often wondered about this one as it is a great opportunity for an introduction to the Mac OS. I switched from PC to Mac in 2008 but just this week bought my iPhone. It seemed very comfortable and easy to use right from the start--and I'm really not sure how much of that can be attributed to already being a Mac user. But I have to believe that there are many new Mac users who decided to switch because of their iPhone.

I personally stayed away from Apple products because of all the bad things I heard about them. In the end I realized it was probably a lot of people just bashing Apple because it wasn't the same as a machine with Windows.

When I was looking for a new phone I actually didn't even give the iPhone the time of day. My first experience was with a 16GB iPod Touch and the rest is history. I switch to the iPhone, then begged my work to deploy a MBP to me.

I began with an apple IIgs as my first computer, but switched to IBM/windows PC's because there was so little software for macs.
When I got the first generation Iphone I noticed that it seemed to have such an easier time connecting to the net than my brand new ultralight lenovo/ibm laptop did.
When the aluminum Macbook came out, I hoped it would be similar to the experience I had with my iPhone. Not a single regret, for stability and an overall better computing experience I would go with Mac's anytime. It is far less of a hassle!
Once you go Mac....

mac sales really shot up after the iphone because it was a way for apple to introduce their OS into the mainstream. I also got a 13 MBP shortly after getting an iphone.

Man this thread is making me look back at the Last year and realize how much money I've spent on apple products. Dec last year is when I got a 3G iPhone. June I upgraded to a 3gs and bought an iMac. September bought a MacBook pro and switched my main business computer to apple. I've always been a techie and love playing with computers. Mac os is impressive. It has simplified my life, though I still support my friends and business pcs on a regular basis. I always cherish going back to my mac.

Among my first computers were several Apple IIs, and later, a Mac Classic. However, DOS and (eventually) Windows won out for reasons I don't remember.

Several years ago, my Apple collector friend loaned me a titanium PowerBook G4 when he upgraded to a new machine. I tried that for six months, but it just didn't cut it for getting real work done. I'm a developer, primarily in the .NET world.

When the iPhone 3G was released, I purchased a MacBook Pro 17 in order to develop for the iPhone. Since then, I have vacillated between the MBP and my Windows laptop. For the past several months, however, I have been using solely the MBP. The deal-sealer for me has been VMware Fusion 3.

Ditto the above. Then about four years ago when Apple switched to Intel I thought, now I can run all my win apps on a Mac, it's time to switch back.

Strangely enough, I've never installed Windows on my MacBook Pro. Next summer, I'll replace my current MacBook Pro with a new one. I can't imagine going back to PC.

For me it was the ipod classic. I loved the way that it and iTunes worked seamlessly together and was originally going to go get a mini. I had an old 17 inch monitor that i got with my 2003 desktop PC and was going to use that with the mini but after seeing the iMac i fell in love with it and bought one the next day.

Oh and the fact that my vista laptop ran like a three legged horse also help persuade me ;)
