Here, in order to work more than 48hrs on average per week you have to opt out of the working-time directive.
That directive is a laugh; I refused to sign the waiver so for a long time worked 56 hours per week (many of my colleagues worked 80 - 90 for overtime pay) but every so often I'm told "You're working whether you like it or not". Last month I had one day off in 14. I'm frequently made to feel guilty that if I don't do the hours, production falls and the factory may close. I work alongside guys who have no home life whatsoever and will work all weekends and holidays if they can; many actively hate their wives and don't want to go home at all. Sadly I have a life outside the job and am frequently having to decline overtime. I'm told: "I have no dedication" unlike the money grabbers who, as the joke goes, would work the two-minute silence...
My record is a single, unbroken 32-hour shift...
