This is now my 3rd month with the iPhone 12 mini.

after 2yrs with the iPhone 8 at launch (ahem iPhone X for 14 days returned), I downgrade to an iPhone SE 2016 back in October 2020 to get used to a smaller iPhone after the mini was announced cause I knew I’d be saving for the one I wanted.

I’m a black guy, not just in skin but in devices I chose to purchase and clothes lol, but the Blue 12 mini 256 GB caught my eye and I purchased it full retail and have loved it every. Single. Day. Period.

I can say if all the others that was poetic, this actually properly explains it’s performance due to the architecture. I’m not a shutter bug but getting better with pics - even though my city is in lockdown still.

will I upgrade to a more refined 13 mini as the last hurrah? Yes.

all 12 mini iPhone users, please email Tim Cook and show your praise and appreciation of the 12 mini convince him that marketing is needed to help sell this segment and that it was a good move.

although many of us would be and could be ok with waiting 4yrs to upgrade but it’s been a brutal 4yrs since the 2016 SE landed.

Sure id like a 25% increase on battery life, Apple official 12-15mAh MagSafe portable charger to save us from being ripped off from bs companies that never deliver (see one of my previous posts on this experience), and frosted back glass while keeping the non high gloss edges.

but the quality, performance, perfect fit in the hand and front jeans pocket size and weight is nothing short of perfection as iOS brings the sweets.
I agree with your sentiments on the mini.

Thanks for adding the YouTube……great video…..subscribed.

This is really nice to read. I think that @stanza.richi or @snipr125 or @Apple_Robert would agree. 😜

I absolutely agree. I think so many people have been convinced by friends and even Apple's own advertising, that they have to have the luggage phone to have a gratifying iPhone experience which is simply not true. The mini can certainly provide a wonderful iPhone experience, if one is willing to put size and marketing bias aside and use the mini on its own merits, without comparing it to luggage phones geared towards people who shoot video and photography for a living etc.

If phone addiction wasn't so bad for so many people, I think the mini would have done so much better in promotion and sales. As it is, addicts need their luggage phone because they are no longer able to function (in many ways) without it, which is really sad.

That was an excellent, well-balanced video.

I agree with this. This is anecdotal evidence, not scientific, but one of my friends did a poll on Twitter asking if he should get a Pro or Pro Max, and the Pro Max was winning 8 votes to 2 votes for the Pro (and I was one of the ones voting for Pro).

I didn’t really believe people’s theories about how the Mini isn’t doing well because of its name or the fact that people think small = less, but after seeing this poll, it made me reconsider. Again, anecdotal, but with the Pro and Pro Max being the same except the size and very marginally improved cameras, it makes me think that people actually do believe that bigger and more expensive is just plain better. I don’t think the average iPhone user ever thinks about/realizes how the Mini is similar in size to their past iPhone 6/7/8, but with a bigger screen, either.

So true. Many friends around me actually consider 12’s lineup weird because it doen’s include wall charger brick. So yeah, if we take this into consideration, very large portion of a potential buyers decide their choosing based on opinions of others, not theirs.

We all see this with one person who chooses colour of iPhone and didn’t even read reviews or watched videos. 🙈
That’s true. I only hope to be able to keep my 256 gb white mini for at least 3-4 years before upgrading 😂
I’m thinking about upgrading once a year for the first time if 13 (?) mini will be last one for a few years.

And now imagine people have these polls with all four options. Very (but very) small group would recommend mini just because of prejudice, views, reviews, (thinking their need) bigger battery and other minds. Sadly.

I think one very overlooked or unrealized advantage of small phones is you don’t have to use a case for them as much because they’re easier to handle and don’t get dropped as much. Having small phones has allowed me to use them strictly case-less for 12 years and I’ve never had fear of dropping them even while using them one-handed on the move (no accidents to speak of yet!). Conversely, I did have a short stint with an iPhone plus and it was like that thing was suicidal always jumping out of my hand. I had to get a case for it immediately, but within a couple months I ended up selling the phone out of frustration.
It’s a shame that such beautiful design is almost always covered up immediately with cases and never enjoyed, largely because these phones these days are too big to hold without fear of dropping.

An iPhone mini upgrade that may require a girlfriend upgrade, or get the girlfriend a new mini as well and hope she doesn't leave you for some iPhone 13 Pro Max slob. :D Tough decision.

I don’t have a girlfriend, sometimes it looks like a win. 😂

Okay, I overstimated the thing guys 😂 she received my two days fresh replacement iPhone XS (replace just before expire of AC+), we sold her X and I buy my new 12 mini with an extra amount of space 😅 and this year/next year we’re planning of restructure one house and maybe buy another one 😅

So I did it, I got me an iPhone 12 mini red. Switching from the iPhone 12 Pro Max and I am loving the experience so far. It’s very different from going to such a big phone to a small phone. I can’t remember how nice it was to hold your phone and do things with one hand. I really do hope apple does not discontinue the iPhone mini as I believe it need to stick around to close that gap IMO

I managed to look at all the iPhone 12 models at the weekend, I came away thinking the Pro Max is the one for me, but I also cannot get the Mini out of my head, it's a stunning design. I will have to take another look at them before buying my next phone, which could be a Mini.

I have had the mini for a while, I compared the regular 12, the pro, and the pro max in the store, along with other phones such as the Samsung galaxy, the google pixel, etc.

The mini is absolutely the best at the primary function of the device, being a phone. Meaning, it can unobtrusively fit in my front or back pocket, in either jeans or shorts. I can easily hold it with one hand in a case and maneuver with my thumb (my hand span is 9.25 inches or so). The screen real estate is just big enough to do everything I care to do (text, read/write e-mail, read the occasional news article).

I do this all sporadically, and media consumption is mostly done on my MacBook on a properly sized screen.

Simply put, for me, the other phones, with cases in particular since I never use these expensive phones without a case, are just too big.

I got a mini recently. Coming from an OG SE, the mini is very cumbersome to use. It's basically impossible to reach anything near the top with one hand, and forget about notification center or control center. And Face ID is much less convenient due to its narrow field of vision and the minimum distance from the phone you need to be. But the camera is nice!

Yeah I still have my SE1, but I played with my friend’s iPhone mini and I was disappointed to find it was pretty hard to handle with one hand in comparison. But of course it’s much better compared to the bigger 6.x” beasts. And as catean said, it’s our only option going forward. Well, there’s also the SE2, but not sure it’s any better. That camera will be nice. I’m really hoping the telephoto makes its way to the mini.

Precisely. All these anti-FaceID people drive me nuts with their whining and lies about how difficult it supposedly is to use.
Eh yeah but the same could be said of both sides. A lot of anti-touch ID people seem to grossly exaggerate how supposedly difficult Touch ID is or how inconsistently it works, when it is flawless for the majority. I attribute it to people just being too opinionated and overly enthusiastic (and it’s silly because they’re both very convenient for different reasons, assuming they’re working as normal). Or it’s always possible that what they describe is accurate for some unknown reason unique to their situation.

I looked pretty hard at the 12 mini, because my terrific SE1 started having a really cataclysmic battery drain problem -- I could watch it drop five percent in a minute -- and I very much like the form factor. But in the end I couldn't get myself to drop nearly a kilobuck on a phone, and went for the SE2.

Where are these so-called "anti-touch ID people"? You probably mean people who have long since moved on to, and much prefer, the Face ID technology, and as such see Touch ID as a thing of the past. I haven't heard/seen many complaints regarding Touch ID, except for it not working when your fingers are a tiny bit wet or too dry. Face ID is simply far more convenient in most cases. Many of those hating on Face ID seem to be reluctant to adapt to new technology. I even see people complaining about not having a home-button, whom I'd put in the same category - i.e. they don't want to adapt to the, imo, superior gesture based navigation. Or maybe they are scared of change. After all, I see a surprisingly high number of people here who are still using very outdated iPhones, something I find strange in a tech-forum, but to each their own.
