iPhone 12 mini How many Mini owners here?

I hear you, still - if you just once look anywhere near websites (where you also propably ordering the phone) you can spot the difference. Note that joker said that it was ordered through T-Mobile so I checked their websites https://www.t-mobile.com/cell-phone/apple-iphone-12?sku=194252028124 - with a whooping 64 reviews directly from customers. Including customer JJDD who reported wrong coral color with picture. You don’t need to be a nerd to find the right of information. Sorry not sorry.
Stanza is probably right, too off topic now. We’ll just have to agree we have different expectations of people.

Maybe a bit off topic, but i don't want to post a new topic.

Do you think that the new purple color is to femineme? So not for guys? I am on the fence for a mini and was shure to buy the blue one but i am doubting now. My local mac dealer here in europe expects the purple one 'in a coupe of weeks'

Not too feminine at all. All of these colors are unisex.

I don’t think purple (like red coral, green an similar) bring problems about boy/girl colour, but because ”non ordinary colour” (instead of black and white) could easily tire yourself especially if you plan to use it naked or with clear case and/or keep it for 2-3-4 years.

looking to get a mini - currently got a SE 2020 (after coming back from android)

may wait to see if a 13 mini comes out what with it being mid cycle if i was to buy now

With only about 6 weeks to go until we find out more about the phones and iOS 15, I would wait. The 12 mini isn't going anywhere.
Lately I've been thinking about trying Apple Watch for the first time in my life. But it kinda scares me because then I won't have a reason for living with 12 mini and it would push me to go for a bigger 12. Because I won't have that much reason for having light and one-handed form factor as I would do much more on the wrist.

Also thinking about if it's the best to go for another model of 12 these days when we are in mid cycle. Maybe 13 (?) mini will be huge upgrade. 😀

not too sure about the Apple Watch pushing you for a bigger phone because while the Apple Watch is quite convenient for checking some notifications without taking your phone out of your pocket then if you need to reply or read anything further the iPhone 12 Mini screen will be still very useful. But you were thinking about a specific use case?

Well maybe because for now if I need to reply to some messages or switching between podcasts or music, I have to put my iPhone out of the pocket. Also when checking how many steps I already made. I think that my biggest worry is about battery life, because I know that with AW connection, battery life on mini will decrease even further. And I'm on the edge for my personal use already. Last 2 weeks I'm trying with only dark mode on my phone, which helps unbelievably, but it's something I have to be without. And I really like the light mode throughout the day. So even I was the one, who tried 12 and 12 mini side by side for a 3 weeks and went only with 12 for a few days, I came back to mini because of it's usability.

So my concerns are now this:
1) mini with AW and battery life + waiting for next gen mini until the fall (possibly better battery)
2) going for 12 and AW without fear of battery life but has to accepting usability mainly with both hands

Honestly, 12's lineup is the worse for me personally to choose from. 😀

We have noticed 😜 Honestly though, yes, the watch will affect the battery life somewhat, but not to the extent you seem to think. I’m doing just fine with the Mini and an AW4.

I have a Mini 128GB. Last phone was an iPhone XS. I don't regret buying a Mini, but I don't know if I'd buy it again, either. I love how small it is. It's very light, fits easily in my pocket, and is generally a joy to use. Personally, I don't think it feels at all faster than my wife's XS, but I don't need it to be faster.

For me, the negatives are that it's hard on my eyes (I'm 40), and the battery life is shorter. The battery life isn't terrible. I knew I was going to get a smaller battery with this, and it's been reasonable, given its size. But if you're used to a Plus/Max phone or even the XR, this is going to seem like a crummy battery. I'm 40, so my eyes aren't what they used to be, and extended reading periods on the phone do cause my eyes to strain a bit. They don't strain when I use my wife's XS. But these are the tradeoffs. You can't have a tiny phone with the best battery life and biggest screen. I wish I could somehow travel around town with the Mini and look at an 12 Pro Max screen.

Just curious but coming from an iPhone XS, did you think of getting an iPhone 12 Pro or the regular 12 instead? What triggered your choice?

Agreed. It was also one of my main reasons why to try 12. Maybe it’s because Apple scaled mini display from XS/11 Pro and didn’t made a resolution specifically for it’s size. I’m 30, I don’t have a problem with my eyes but for the first time I felt strange while reading on mini. And as you desceibed, my previous XS was fine. Maybe the solution after all is to go bigger if you want or not. Today, for the first time I had to charge my mini in the evening for a bit (45% at 7pm), but until now I was doing fine.

They gave us an iPhone 12 which has the equivalent screen size as the iPhone 11 (6.1") but in a smaller body ;)
True. But I don’t want a screen of iPhone 11, I want the screen of iPhone 11 Pro. 5,8” is perfect for me, but also I love the flat design.

Ah, then it doesn't exist (yet) :), "maybe" the iPhone 13 or 14 lineup would give that size/design

I don’t think they will change the lineup in 13’s models. And also I understand why is mini “smaller” that I would like to. They just have to differ mini from 12, with 5,8” and 6,1” wouldn’t be that much difference.

I considered all of them. I miss the telephoto lens because I have kids and like taking portrait photos. I think if I was traveling in nature all the time, I'd be more excited about the wide angle lens than I am. But I don't miss the telephoto lens enough to decide it's worth $150 in the Pro over the regular 12 (or spending $250 for it vs. the Mini).

I've always had the standard size iPhone until the Mini. Never had a Plus/Max. I know the iPhone 11 was supposed to have better battery life than an XS, but I never had the 11. But I was pretty unhappy with the XS battery life, just as I wasn't very happy with the battery life of my 7. I just found it increasingly difficult to have the standard size phone because I really the all-day battery life of the Max, even though I never wanted a phone that big. So, if I wasn't get to get great battery life, I decided I wanted to have the smaller phone for the portability. Even though the battery life on the Mini seems to be a bit worse than my XS, I accept it because I like the smaller size. But reading for even 10 minutes straight is more difficult than it is on the XS. Again, if you have good eyes, that's a nonissue for you.

Part of this probably depends, too, whether you put your phone in your pocket or if you don't. Even though I have an Apple Watch, I usually take my phone with me if I run. I pull it out to pay with Apple Pay several times each week, even though I could again use my Apple Watch for that. You can't underestimate how light it feels in the hand and in your pocket. It's incredibly easy to hold and to use one hand to manipulate. If I were a person who puts my phone in a bag/purse/etc., I doubt I'd get the Mini. I'd also probably not get the Mini if it were my only computing device. For people who really do "everything" on their phone, I think I'd only get a Max so that it lasts all day and has a large screen to read and manipulate.

As a side note on this one, 'Focos' app is doing a very good job with portraits (subject cutout and a great depth effect). Also, you take advantage of your main camera lens which is usually better than the telephoto camera lens. I find this app doing a better job than the Apple digital portrait mode from the standard cam app.
