It is definitely not 2 or 5 cm. It is above 10 cm bit also not always above 20 cm. It also depends on the angle I decide to unlock the phone. It works with some angles and it does not work with others. From what I have gathered I think that it is a mix between how easy is for me to hold the device far enough to register my face (it is not) and how easy it is for me to hold it far away to unlock it afterwards. I am also used to unlock my phone while resting it on the desk itself (something that works with Touch ID) and there Face ID fails too.Ok … shawty i understand, but how close in cm/inches are you holding the iPhone (naturally holding it) to your face, as I’m curious. 2/5/10cm? When you see the passcode screen, then FaceID had already failed at least once - see WWDC when Craig failed (2017)
Thanks for the video. For me is a bit different than what I see happening with Craig. What happens for me is that I see the passcode screen but then my face seems to get recognized and I see the dots filling in and my phone unlocking. The only way I could explain this is that FaceId is slow enough for me for the phone to first think that my face is not recognized, it shows me the passcode to enter but then it realizes that it can recognize my face and as a result it acts like I have entered the valid passcode and thus shows this animation and unlocks the phone.
Yep.And I’ll agree that FaceID works a LOT faster or better on iPad Pro - I noticed that first day I got mine before I got the 12 mini.
The Text Size on my phone is the third level but I have also activated Bold Text. I can see good enough and for now I do not want to increase the size. However I have not just myopia but astigmatism. With astigmatism you do not see correctly no matter the distance. And my astigmatism prescription is above the medium range for astigmatism so it can affect how I see things no matter the distance. With such description I am also a bit restricted at the angles I can use. Long story short astigmatism prescription is a lens put in a specific angle and as you wear glasses you do have to use them in a specific way to take advantage of that prescription. Like only straight watching through the lens, it cannot be below or above or sideways. If you need to do that you move your head, not your eyes. And this is where I do think that FaceId fails for me - it does not handle those angles properly but on the other side I do need to position my head this way.PS: I wear glasses to read and I keep my font to the second smallest on my iPhone - every single one I’ve used since the 3GS, and I do the same on my computers as well just seems easier on my eyes.
Try playing around with the field of views to see what results you get.
Btw I also believe that it depends on the lighting. I was visiting my parents around Easter and FaceId failed far less there than now using it in my place. I doubt that I use it at different angles in the different places. I think that it is more about the surrounding lighting.
