Bought the 12 mini 11/24/2020.
Currently battery health is sitting at 89% maximum capacity and can never get a full day out of it. It's brutal! The battery is the only reason I won't buy a mini again!

perhaps the title of the thread shoudl be edited to say "iPhone Mini owner" not just "Mini owner"....

because i was about to respond with.. "can't believe I bought the iPhone 13 Pro Max last week... I usually prefer good things that come in small packages, which is why the iPhone 13 Pro Max looked kind of odd in my Mini.. need to get a better mount as well because the Pro Max's extra weight causes the mount to wobble while I drive" (Mini, as in the car)

Similar thinking here. Even though I’m at 91%.

I had 12 mini since it's launch. I rarely charge it past 80% and do not let it discharge more than 20%. Only time I would charge it past 80% is when I know I will be using the phone away from a power source, and then only to 85 or 90%.

When I traded in my 12 mini, its battery health was at 99%.

If you are charging it to 100% everyday, I would venture to guess that is what is causing decline of your 12 mini battery life.

I wonder if heavy usage vs. light usage is at play here as well, and also whether people charge wirelessly (which generates a lot of heat) vs using the traditional charger?

I am a relatively light user of my 12 Mini- I only need to charge every other day for the most part.... and I just plug it in when I go to bed, usually when it's down around 20- 30% or so- and unplug it in the morning, when it's of course at 100%.

I never use wireless charging.

My battery now, 11 months in, is at 98% health.

It’s not. Every iPhone I owned I charged all the time the same way. I never saw quickest decline than I saw with 12 mini. Sorry, this analogy is not working.

That's interesting. That's how I've always charged my phones and I seem to replace batteries every other year. (4s and 2016 SE). Now I have a 13 Mini and it would be nice if I didn't have to go through that again.

My idea is that in future they will be making bigger iPhones, not smaller ones. Maybe iOS will be worse with smaller iPhones - as I felt about iOS 10 when I switched from iPhone SE to iPhone 7. Some buttons were bigger and wrongly placed and I felt that on first SE that change in my mind was mainly based on the UI of iOS. Also bigger battery could last longer also. I think that 12 series was very bad in battery - percentage in Battery Health was dropping really fast across the lineup despite that fact that earlier iPhone (XS, 11…) didn’t saw that drop that quickly. Am I wrong about those feelings? I would be happy to.

And about AW7, I think that flat design isn’t something that was supposed to be on S7 and Apple really planned to release this version in this exactly design. They are planning ahead far too long that flat design is maybe a thing but not for a year 2021. 🤷🏼‍♂️
I think I started with the iPhone 3GS and then went to the 4. My next upgrade was the 6+ then back to the 7. I kept the 7 for a couple of years then wen to the XR. Kept that one year…sold it…and upgraded to the 11 (non pro). Kept the 11 for 2 yrs and just switched to the 13 mini. I always loved the “pocketabilty” of the smaller phones (3GS, 4, 7 and now the mini). I always loved the screen size of the larger phones (6+, XR and 11). The 13 mini is a bit of both in that it’s a “small/pocketable” phone, but the screen size doesn’t feel small to me. It feels normal! Let’s hope Apple continues with a “normal” sized phone going forward😊

Agreed but I'll just buy the regular size next time because I'm tired of stressing over my battery. And I'm stuck w/this one another year so who knows how bad it will be by then! I won't take that risk again!
True. I love mini size but I think that going bigger would be better in longterm. Despite 13 mini is better on battery, still it could be a bigger pain in 2-3 years from now. And I don’t want to be in the situation when I would poty myself about not going bigger when I had a chance.

You had the 12 for a short time. You returned it, right? You will miss the Mini from what I read out of all of your comments. I am like you, also tried the 12 but I don't anymore. I know at least for ME 13 Mini is the perfect size. Battery life aside would you choose the normal 13? If no, then ask yourself why you need a bigger battery?! Are you always on the go and never have time to charge the Mini for 30min or it is way too incovenient for you for whatever reason? Can't you put a battery pack on the back for 30mins on the go? This is what I would ask myself if I would switch just for battery reason esp now with the 13 Mini being much better regarding battery life.
If it is just for battery and also life of it, wait till you get a nice big discount on the 13 Mini and invest the savings for 1-2 battery swaps from Apple in the coming years. You wouldn't even lose a $, just wait instead of buying it now.

I will defintely stay with the Mini line and I will buy the 13 Mini. And I will buy AC+ with it so I can also swap the battery after two years, not even talking about HW issues maybe and getting an almost new one for it. So for me the 13 Mini could last long enough. And even without AC+ a battery swap would be what? 79$? 99$? I would do that every year if I needed to just to stay with the 13 Mini. I just love my 12 Mini and am going to love the 13 Mini in pink even more.

But of course I own the iPad Mini (6), so for me 13 Mini is a no brainer.

We all wanted fast charging. We got it. Now people think they also need a battery to last for two days before a charge. None of it makes sense. The 13 mini battery has been proven to be great. If you need a charge towards the end of the day, it takes less than 30 minutes to go from zero to 50%. Why worry about the battery?

You remember that very well. Thank you for your kind comments. Battery is my main issue, sometimes is typing with both hands and feeling that I’m missing something when I have a smaller phone. Despite that fact I hated buying XS because it wasn’t offered in smaller package back then. I also remember that I felt very cautious when I have been using 12. True again. I do buy AC+ on every iPhone from XS (using my friend in US) so maybe it’s better to go with mini again while I can and not being pushed by my fears, thoughts of others and sometimes a feeling “bigger is better”. Thanks for your reminder. Still, I’m waiting for a sale from my friends for 13’s lineup because 12 mini is decreasing it’s value very quickly.

True, I never wanted fast charging because I don’t charge through the day if I don’t have to. Some days I do, but most of the time it could lasted me full day. I just like iPhones which can get me through the full day from 100% to 30% in the night as is my normal usage.

I'm not worried at all to be honest. Batteries are consumable products. If and when the battery in my 13 mini is degraded to the point that it doesn't get me through my day, I will simply have the battery replaced. Good as new.

I'm not going to baby the battery. I'll use the phone as hard as I need at the moment. I will top it off if necessary and when I have opportunity (I have a wireless MagSafe charger mounted nicely in my car and another at the office), and a bought an Apple MagSafe battery pack for the rare occasions when I might be using it very intensely for many hours at a time, like out of town at a business conference or something.

When I first ordered it, I did have a little so-called "range anxiety" like people who first get electric vehicles experience. I've had it just about two weeks with what would be my typical daily usage. I've never gone below 20% on the battery even without topping it off, so I'm no longer concerned.

Yeah, I think from what I have read you would miss it as to buying it again maybe. Or you try 13 again one week to two weeks, putting the 12 Mini away. Not touching it for that whole time. Then you will see if you miss it.

Again, I was like you and tried the 12. But it wasn't interesting to me. I have my iPad Mini for videos and more serious browsing. And the 12 was just a bigger 12 Mini. iOS also. There was NO advantage besides bigger videos which I normally watch on my iPad Mini. So I wouldn't worry about battery at all. Swap it when it is too low for your taste.

My 12 Mini battery from february 2020 has now gone to 98%. 99% after updating to iOS15. Strange. But I guess now starts the decreasing part. Battery capacity varies quite a lot and some have way more in the beginning then others. Apple's specs just show the MUST HAVE battery size. It can be higher too. And when you first get to 99% then it will decrease on a monthly basis I guess.

My main concern is battery, true. At the same time, I’m torn about size. Most of the time is mini so insanely perfect for me. And on a few moments it seems to me too small. I never had this weird relationship with my iPhone. 😀 I started with 12 mini on December 2020 and now sitting at 90%. 😮

I've got the 12 Mini and generally love it. I was coming from an iPhone 8, and getting a smaller device with a larger screen was a win/win. I kind of cringe when I pick up my wife's SE 2020.

My only complaint is battery life, which seems to have gotten markedly worse for me under iOS 15. That's the one thing that would really drive me toward the 13 Mini. (Well, that and the fact that it's got as good a camera as the 12 Pro, from what I've read.)

Not sure I follow the logic (ie regular 13 will last you much longer…based on rumors no more mini’s after the 13). However, they were wrong about the rumors for a radical redesign of the Apple Watch 7. Perhaps they’ll be wrong also about the rumors for no more Mini’s?
How does that even make any sense.
13 regular will last longer than a 13 mini???

They’re both made the same year, any AC+ will last the exact same length of time (unless you pay upfront vs monthly and when you start to purchase AC+), either way both will have the EXACT same length of device support time. Both have the fact same cpu & gpu and same components other than the screen size and battery.

One will not last “longer” than the other except in battery capacity spent not in device ownership longevity.

Never away from a charger, but my 12-mini (IOS-latest; love-love-love it) easily powers-through my day ;)
