I’m considering doing a clean set up this year since iMessage data is now saved in icloud, but what about Apple Watch data? Will all of that be lost if I set up my new iPhone 11 as a new phone?

Same here, I do the same. Also, my current iPhone has a strange issue where once in a while the batter will drop from 100% to 40% in minutes, and I’m not even using it. I’m glad it doesn’t happen all the time, but I have no idea what’s causing it. So I’m afraid if I restore from a back up, that issue will transfer over to the new phone.I did last year when moving from my 6S to the XS. Will likely do the same this year moving to the 11 Pro.
Had always restored from backups previously but as you said the things I cared about like messages and photos are all in the cloud so it makes it way easier. Also helps me purge unused apps.
Always a fresh new setup. Get rid of the clutter.
But you DO have to re-download all your apps. Backups only give you the placeholder for your app, not the app itself. As for not having to re-enter passwords, I have had 'restored' apps demand I log in again.I do backup restore just because I don’t want to redowoad all the apps and re-enter all the passwords.

Yes but it’s done automatically. I don’t have to go to the App Store and download them is what I meant. But you DO have to re-download all your apps. I do. So does that mean all my workout data that I see in the Activity app is also backed up?If you have multi factor Authentication turned on You can use health in the cloud.
Assuming you are on multi factor then confirm or switch on health in the cloud.

You’re right, it is! Thanks!
Mine is. Thx.Please go into your iCloud settings and make sure that you have health turned on!!!! too many friends have lost their health data!!
I haven’t done a clean setup on a new phone in years. With most everything being backed up in the cloud I’ve thought of doing one here when I get the iPhone Pro in a couple of days.
Do many of you do a fresh setup when you get your new phone? Just curious if you feel like you are gaining benefits from doing it over restoring from backup.
