After buying this thing 6 months ago, there is no way i would be a 3G one now. Maybe in june 08, but it would have to bring a lot more then 3G.

I'd get one now if it was available and I'd pay a premium (up to £500) if it would act as a modem for my laptop to access broadband. The UK is not like the US where 3g coverage is limited. In the UK it's almost everywhere you need it. Bring it on...:D

I just wondered if apple threw a bone to us with the 3G iphone after new years, would you ditch your current 2G model and buy it?

I want to leave verizon, pay the ETF, and get a iphone....but if I am patient...the 3G might come after my contract expires...so no ETF, and 3G would make me happy. Unless the majority do not think the 3G is worthy of a upgrade.

Have you considered Verizon's Voyager? It seems to be an adequate fix for those waiting for a better iPhone.

I have an iPhone, but yes I would buy the 3G iPhone also. Many of the touted key features are useless without a fast Internet connection.

Plus I had a Cingular (HTC manufactured) 8525 with 3G, and enjoyed the ability to receive and send data while using the phone. Priceless. Despite claims, I have not been able to do this even with a WI-FI connection. I do not regret buying the iPhone, but I certainly miss 3G, and would jump to get it on a newer iPhone.

I did consider the Voyager.....that is until I got it in my hands....no email, feels like a tinker toy, very bad implementation.....

It would be nice to surf and talk....but then again unless they put a user replaceable battery and someone comes out with a high output battery.....you are asking for it to drain your battery. My fear is that I get one now, then the 3G version hits and then I get one of those and have a spare iphone sitting there.....

I love Apple products and my iPhone, but 3G alone is not enough for me to get one...it will likely have 16 Gigs of Space (a must for me to upgrade), MUCH better speakers, better camera, a built in i-Sight for Video Conferencing, the Charcoal boarder like the Touch (the chrome is too shiny) and maybe a GPS (although I really don't care to much about this, and I don't think it is coming for a while).

Most of what I am looking for in regards to the iPhone can be achieved through software updates (like Chapter Marker selection menu for videos, games, voice notes, finder, radio, video capture, lyric support, ability to create playlists in the phone, To-Do-List and Note syncing with Leopard, SMS Multiple Senders, MMS, Ringtone Pass-Through to Bluetooth Headset, Master Inbox for Mail App) so I am not going to be so eager to buy one right away when they update since the software will likely match that of the new phone (minus anything hardware related of course, like GPS)...of course, I say this now when I think about it rationally, but when I see Jobs presenting it in one of his Keynotes I might not be able to resist...

Apple would have to add more then just 3G to get me to upgrade my phone. I am ok with EDGE. 3G would be nice, but currently not worth upgrading (This is odd for me to say as I always love having the latest everything, hence why I don't mind that the Mac Pro has lack any updates for so long:D)

I'd get one but I hear 3G isn't too hot just yet. I'd rather have more coverage than fast speeds, unless the connection is b/c and uses Edge when it can't find a signal.

I'm holding off my iPhone purchase now. But I still can't wait to own one :)

If you'd asked me a fortnight ago, I'd have said I was waiting for 3G. However, after getting an iPhone I can honestly say I haven't missed 3G at all - EDGE is perfectly quick enough in the UK. About the only advantage of 3G I can think of is you can surf and talk at the same time.
If they released one with 3G, 32GB and the ability to tether it via bluetooth, I might be interested but until then I'm more than delighted with my current iPhone

I feel pretty much exactly the same here. My previous 3G phone was SLOWER in browsing, so although the iPhone would be nice with 3G, it is not something that I am waiting for really. Just want AAPL to keep the software updates coming with a few new features...!

It'll be on O2's 3G network. The coverage isn't that good.

If the 3G iPhone was just the current model+3G then I'd pass. If it had more features (GPS, 16GB, better camera etc) then I might be tempted if O2 made it clear how I could upgrade.

already being an iphone owner, 3g wouldn't be enough to ditch my phone and buy another. there would have to be a real compelling reason to do so, and 3g isn't it. neither is gps. frankly, i don't know what would be.

It probably will be on O2, which would mean I would have to ditch my Vodafone contract to get it - that's something I am not sure about yet.

I am with you 100% on more features. The one I have right now is adequate (I still like other phones but I know I will miss the usability of the iPhone.

Most of what I want can be fixed with a firmware/OS update. That's coming, happy days! :)

Despite what I said I would buy a 3g iPhone and sell this one as soon as it comes out. Battery life on 3g should be better next year according to Steve.

3G? To pay an extra plan ? NO WAY

I advise everyone over here to check out fon.com and get their 10 buck router to securely share your wifi Internet connection and get free shared wifi access all over the world. They currently have over 60, 000 members.

3G? what a joke!

Fon is a joke. I have to share out my already limp broadband connection to an army of people in the pub next door? No ta.

here is a thought, this might already be on 3G phones right now...but what if the 3G iphone has an option for us to tell it to run on 2G so that we can conserve battery life and only use the 3G feature when we want :) now that I would upgrade to asap :)

I left Verizon for the iPhone, and to tell you the truth, no matter where you go communications are going to be expensive, and you hardly get what you pay for. I feel that if you need the extra speed right now, you will be within a wifi connection. So if i need speed, i turn it on, but for basic things like weather and a google maps search, EDGE is just fast enough. Sure, i would be happy if it was instantly faster, but i would not take the battery hit and a larger phone for it. It just isn't worth it that much.
