I have the 4GB model that I use as a back-up to my 3G. Although with the annoucement of OS 4.0 I'm thinking about selling the 4GB.

I actually bought a 3GS and returned it to keep my original. It felt like I was using the exact same phone, especially all the times I couldn't get 3G and was bumped onto, not just edge, but gprs  Didn't really notice the fabled speed increase either.

Ultimately it was nowhere near worth the money when I still had a working 2G. I'll hold onto it for another year at least, I mainly use data for twitter and the odd occasion killing time on a bus so it's not a huge deal for me anyway. Battery's still good as well, reliable thing this :)

Great Phone

Currently I own a 4S, my upgrade from the 3G. However I recently bought an original off of my friend and this is my new favorite phone, over the 4s. Sure the 4s has tons of features, but the design of the original is timeless, and it does all the things you would want. I took the SIM out of the 4s and have been using the original ever since I bought it.. Crazy, huh?

Sold my 1st iPhone to a nice gentleman in the UK for $1,000.00 USD, (this was a gift to his daughter). I was paid by check and shipped my iPhone via the buyer's carrier:D...lol Sold my original iPhone for a pretty penny, and the proceeds bought my a beautiful 3G with boo-koo money leftover....

Sentimentally hanging on to it but use my 4S

I have all my iPhones. As I purchased the original iPhone the day after it first went on sale, I'm keeping it for sentimental reasons, haven't tried to use it since I laid it to rest in its original packaging. I am keeping my 3GS as a back up to the 4S (just in case). I never owned the 3G or the iPhone 4.

I mentioned in another thread that I only use my iPhone 2G as 2nd backup phone, iPod, and alarm clock. But thinking about Lent this season, I might end up using it for the next two months. Last year, I sacrificed to NOT eat meat and went to church every day. This year, I will sacrifice giving up on internet starting three weeks earlier. No FB, Twitter, or even email starting by Feb 1st. I want to see what life is like again without internet. This would help me go out more and socialize. Even if I was atheist instead of Catholic, I might still do this just to get rid of my self-indulgences and challenge myself.

The reason I want to go back to the iPhone 2G is because its actual shortcomings is a benefit for me during Lent. It has the weakest range in Wi-Fi where it can't even get a signal in my room. I don't own anymore "dumb" phones that are unlocked, so I might as well use the least powered smartphone that prevents me from using the internet. But overall, the iPhone 2G was a classic no matter how you look at it five years later and its design has aged gracefully over time...

Not to go on a tangent because I never was an owner of the first gen iPhone but I sure hope Apple chooses to go back to a similar style for the next gen. In terms of aesthetics and durability, it's definitely my pick.

Can't say the same for the iPhone 4. Sure it looks nice, but the 1st gen iPhone was designed with ergonomics and durability in mind without compromising on style, while the iPhone 4 seems to prioritize style over anything else.

iPhone 4 design meeting:

Person A: So, We've decided to make it an all-glass design. It'll be fragile, but it's beautiful. Your thoughts?
Person B: How about we make it less ergonomical and uncomfortable to hold by making the back flat?
Person A: I like your way of thinking!
Person C: And let's put the antenna around it so that hands come into direct contact with it. Health effects are inconclusive anyway.
Person A: Excellent idea. Hmm... Wait a minute. That's also make it more slippery no?
Person C: Probably. Stainless steel can be that way, yes.
Person A: Perfect! I'll start making sketches.

I still have mine. Albeit it's beaten up and it has no longer it's original awesome look, the fact that it is still up and running after so many falls, drops and bumps is amazing.
