Still on Verizon unlimited. Used a family members upgrade on a different account (that was fun) to keep unlimited and only pay 199. I'll go month to month when my contract expired at the end of May.

I have unlimited data with my iPhone 5 on Verizon. I opened a new line and moved the phone over to my line. I found a place on twitter that helps people keep unlimited data on Verizon.

Still operating on unlimited data on AT&T on my iPhone 5, and I still have their old $5/200text/month plan for texting, since I rarely send anything but iMessages these days 🙂

No throttling.. No fair usage, the tether blocks can be gotten round dead simple.. High speed latest generation 3G and no extra charge for LTE (it's literally just being rolled out in the UK) where it is available.. £12.90! Makes me so glad to live in the UK.. Sounds like people are out a small fortune for tiny data allowances in the US!

I still have unlimited and can't find a good reason to give it up yet (AT&T). I have a family plan with 4 lines (all iPhones) and with my employer discount it's still more cost effective to keep my plan rather than switch to a mobile share plan. So as long as upgrades are still subsidized I will keep the plan.

This "loophole" people speak of isn't really a loophole. You basically sign a contract for another line (can be a new account or add a line, the latter of which has a much cheaper monthly rate) and then drop that line to a dump phone. Carriers have pretty much all allowed this since smartphones have been around. It's perfectly legitimate.
As a side note, on our AT&T line I have been keeping wifi off in order to hit my "unlimited" throttle (really just want to test throttle speeds myself). Last two months I've hit 6.5 and 5.8 gigs respectively and never got a message nor noticed a throttle. I point this out because I know Verizon's official stance on throttling has to do with network congestion. Curious to know of AT&T has (in officially) changed their stance to this as well.

I noticed the same in the past with a few lines on my account with unlimited AT&T iphone data.
They got past their soft cap and never a text or throttling at all.
Makes me think its not so cut and dry that as soon as you hit either the 3GB or 5GB point AT&T throttles you.
It's funny that you mention Verizon and throttling generally speaking i keep wifi off unless I need it to turn on for my
TV otherwise I hit 5GB, and last month I think I did 10, I have yet to see slow down, but I'm sure it happens. As far as loophole goes its essentially another way of buying the phone out right at a subsidy, whatever keeps them from changing my contract. The US carriers need a better future plan for data with all devices going mobile this share planning is crazy and counter intuitive to technology.

I d considered just to keep goon with data and see when I get hit with the throttle, problem is I generally don't have the time or patience to run Netflix all day in order to get there (and I don't see any other good way aside from tethering, which I think is a bad idea) to get there. Either way, even 5gb is obviously enough for mendornthe time being as I had to go out of my way to surpass it. I don't generally babysit my data, ill check where I stand maybe twice a month (more often Thea roast two months trying to break 5gb).

I would be the first to support changes in data speeds and rates, but I think the reality is most people are under the 2gb mark because, we'll, they just are. I'd consider myself a heavy data user but, like many, I have wifi almost everywhere I go and my phones connect to it seamlessly.
I think tmobile is doing it right. Essentially you get unlimited data even with the basic smartphone plan, but you are throttled after 500mb. Or, for a bit of extra money at 2gb. Or, for a small some more, never. This is great for users who don't want to deal with overages. If I have a 2gb plan, I'd rather not automatically pay an overage if I am a day or two away from the end of my month. I have the choice to pay for the next tier of throttling for the month, or just wait until the month cycle refreshes. This is essentially why I find AT&T's deal to be just as good. I get 5gb of data (apparently more) without overages. I have to try to hit that data cap, which translates to me never having to worry about an overage. I think all data packages should operate in this manner.

i did have unlimited data with verizon up until about a month and a half ago. over the years, i've noticed my voice usage go down considerably, to the point where most of my monthly bill was really paying for the data. combine that with the fact i couldn't get subsidies anymore without losing the unlimited data, and so i just switched away from verizon. the coverage and speed aren't as good, but it's good enough. and it's worth it to save $50+/mo.

Same here. If not, I'd have paid full price for my 64GB iPhone 5. I have 5 phones on my account, and sometime this year they'll all be off contract except the line I opened for the 5.
If at some time Verizon removes unlimited data from my use, I'll just cancel it all and go pre-paid for half the price of what I'm paying now.

That day is coming soon, the carriers are not going to keep the unlimited data plans under VZ and AT&T, not really a big deal on Sprint since it is their only way to attract customers, since their network stinks bad.
T-Mobile will state unlimited 4G for now, but once their LTE is in full swing, I believe that will change, no carrier will offer $30 unlimited data, they make their money on it, especially if there is no more Sub pricing? They will count on the monthly data usage to make profits.
I don't have an iPhone 5 - I am still on my 4S contract - but I do still have grandfathered unlimited data on AT&T. I never plan on giving that up, and will keep my plan until AT&T says "NO MORE".
As far as throttling goes, I have WiFi at home and when I get home I turn the WiFi on and turn Cellular Data off. I am on my 4S quite a lot - both when at home and when away - but I don't seem to go above 2GB very often.
Granted there was ONE TIME when I exceeded 3GB - think I hit like 3.1GB - and yes I did get a text from AT&T which was basically a warning. It said something to the effect of "You have exceeded 3 GB of data for the month. Future occurrences of this may result in reduced data speeds."
