I agree with this. MBA screens are pretty bad. I tried a few and then decided that the screens are not ready for prime time yet, for people who spend 14+ hours every day on computers. Instead I ordered the MBP 15 AG and really love it. Its a beautiful piece of machine. Waiting for my Thunderbolt display now (ships Sep 21).

Lol...and here I felt bad for returning my first Incase Sling Sleeve because of poor stitching on the pockets (it was really noticeable :p).

I look at mine all day and it looks fine. Some of you guys are ridiculous.

The speakers sound like absolute junk anyway. Why are you not using an external source or headphones?

I wonder if you'd say the same if your screen had the real problems some have posted.

The problem is that Apple seems to attract the OCD crowd. The screen on EVERY Air that I've seen (and I've used several and looked at many over 3 years) has a slight (and I mean OCD slight) darkening at the very bottom of the screen. Is this an issue for using this device? Not at all, unless you are a high-end graphics professional (maybe). Unfortunately, the OCD crowd sees this and goes crazy. Whatever. If it doesn't work for you, no problem - move on. But I'm puzzled by people who have supposedly returned their Airs (because they couldn't deal with the lack of perfection), yet remain on these forums continuing to share their opinions.

It's NOT slight, I've seen, worked, used etc. LCD screens, the MBA is FAULTY!

I've returned my Macbook Pro after 3 months of owning it. Got full refund back because I complained that the glossy glass panel and low resolution was hurting my eyes and giving me headaches (all true, btw). They were happy to take it back, especially since I told them I'd be switching to the new Air when it comes out this year. Very pleasant experience.

On a separate occasion, I returned a laptop bag still new and unused for a full refund. Also good experience.

did you buy it at that same store? do they care where its bought? For example its been a month n half you buy it at best buy and want to exchange for the new air, would they do it?

A simple observation. The number of hostile judgmental Apple apologists blaming the user seem to far outnumber the OCD types. Without any facts whatsoever the apologists assume it can't possibly be a product problem. Very revealing.

Here we go again...

On a different note, I did once take back a Macbook that had the cracking plastic issue. They swapped out my keyboard right there, and beefed up that corner. Gotta say, Apple has always treated me well.

Mine has a very slight wavy darkening at the bottom, my guess it's due to the edge backlit on such thin displays, i can live with it since it's not that noticeable, it also has an LG screen and Toshiba SSD but i'm not returning it since 1) the screen looks great to me, 2) apple never offered 250MB/s or something like it, now if the difference was 200MB/s vs 500MB/s instead then i'd be returning it as well.

I've seen pictures posted that look 10x or worse than mine, if i had one of those i'd be returning it ASAP as well.

There ARE some problems with the new Airs, to assume that EVERYTHING that comes out of the factory is perfect and you'd be an idiot if you dare return it would be foolish to say the least.

If it's faulty by all means return it until you get one that isn't faulty.

I returned once a MBP 15" i think it was. It had a faulty Nvidea chip (there was a whole production batch of them) and Apple replaced it without any problem or question.
And I had an iPhone 4 that had a yellow blob at the bottom. That annoyed me a bit, but my wife never saw it, so she has that one now. I didn't want to drive 600km to Paris to exchange it, when there where no phones to exchange it with.

"darkening at the bottom" means FAULTY display.

Perhaps folks could save some time by going by a store, looking at the product they want to buy, find all the problems, and then leave without it. Saves a bunch of headaches.

Believe me, they will be embarrassed they still didn't get you 100% MBA considering it is Apple who claims to make the most amazing products. Having one customer come back again and again because they keep giving him faulty MBA's because they have poor Quality Control is a fail on their part, not yours.

You should be OK for a few YEARS so be sure you don't get annoyed already, you have at least another 4 years to go with this machine.

Let them open the box in the store, connect, boot up and double check for probs. Maybe even switch harddrive and boot the system you used. We can take cars for a testdrive, so why not a mac.

Ah I've seen them twice about the speaker problem and they just offer me a new mba and say the problem is strange/unheard of. Yeah I'm sure they will replace it if i go in and ask, I just don't want to come across as a mad man! I wish they could just fix it :(

p.s.

Never had to return anything so far and own about 6 MBP's, bunch of ipads, macpro's, G5 etc. etc.
