sorry but I shall not do that.

You're poll is that how much is apple missing out and that conclusion is incorrect as the majority of respondents are not switching platforms but waiting for apple. That means apple will not incur any lost revenue, yeah they're revenue for sales is down until they release a new laptop, but once they do. Those folks sitting on the side line will wipe out their credit cards.

People like this thread because people are responding. Just because you don't like my post, doesn't give you the right to exclude my interaction

How about we do this. Tell me what the original thread should say and I will edit it.

And some people specifically ignored you.

Then why do you keep making such unverifiable statements as

??

If you make an argument that is based off of dubious sources and treat them as if they were fact, expect to be shot down. In addition, as others have pointed out- Apple really isn't losing any revenue by waiting for a new model. Why is that so hard to understand?

Those numbers were based off of the votes. What didn't you understand about it? I have not once treated this as a fact. What are you talking about?

Agreed. But, they think their customers are and that is partly how they can keep prices the same at the end of a product cycle compared to the start and squeeze much more profit out of their customer base.

I'm not sure they think their customers are "stupid" but people are willing to buy a MBP today at the price I paid for one in late 08. Does that make them stupid or that they want a Mac and have a need now.

btw, that argument can be extended to the apple tax line of thought as well, since macs are typically more expensive then other makers.

I understand where you are getting your numbers, but you seem to be saying that Apple is "losing" X amount of dollars because this many people will pay Y dollars in the future. Do you understand why this is not "lost" revenue? If not, there's no use arguing with you any further because your entire conception of "revenue" is fundamentally flawed.

Yes, I do understand. My point is these people would have paid "x" now if one (or a combination) of the following were true.

  • They were not aware of a possible refresh
  • They are not aware of the value being lower than sales price based on availability of newer hardware.

You can not say what they will spend their money on nor can I. At this point they can see higher value in another brand and go outside of Apple, they can choose to wait, they can choose to buy now, etc.

What im trying to say is that this poll can not cover every angle.

...

That's not what your original post implies.

I was just curious how many people are waiting for the refresh and how much they are going to spend. Personally, I am waiting and will be spending about 2500-3000.

Edit:
This thread is intended for people who are holding off for the refresh and refuse to pay current prices for outdated hardware.

One might get the idea that you're actually asking how much someone will pay in the future. There's nothing in the above (your original post) that says anything about how much they would pay "now" for an "outdated" product. Or am I missing something?

Your poll eliminates the first and third options with the disclaimer you added in:

I think your story has changed, because I totally agree with you here ;-) ...which gets back to my original point that you can't jump to too many conclusions based off of a forum poll. Putting a dollar amount on how much money Apple will make in the future (note: NOT "lost" revenue) is nice, but should be taken with a grain of salt.

Ahah. Ok. So lets correct that.

What should I change my first post to?

Exactly the point I was making. Apple is not suffering from lost revenue but deferred revenue.
