If you had an ipad 3/4, you would know that when surfing the web, safari and all other browsers I've tried (so this isn't limited to bad browsers) have trouble "keeping tabs". What I mean is after you open several links with new tabs, when you go back to previous tabs, they will need to be reloaded. This is EXACTLY the problem with 1gb ram. The whole point of using tabs on a web browser is to eliminate loading time and to remember my reading spot right where I left it. Having to reload the pages entirely renders the tabs pointless; I might as well open links on the same page and using the back button to go back.

Want more proof? Open 2 or 3 games, and when you switch between them, instead of getting the pause screen, you have to reload the entire app again, wasting another minute or 2 in the process.

This problem does not happen to my note 3. With its 3GB ram, I can open many tabs and the pages will always be there when I go back to them. None of the reloading crap Apple gives me. Apple gets away with shi.t like these because Apple fanboys buy their products without really thinking about these things.

Or they genuinely just don't care. I know I don't, but that's just me.

I'm sure they have the same amount of ram. Both models have the same A7 processor and the same resolution screen. So why would they bump up the ram in one but not the other. This isn't an android device we're talking about.

So they can make the two lines different and make more money.

----------

Hope not.

For the price they charge and 2 devices are identical in specs only diff in size so they should offer same ram at 2GB. Apple stop being stingy.

2 GB wont drain more battery than 1GB so there is no reason for them not to or it would just be small improvement over the Ipad 4 they discontinued. To me, Ipad 2013 is nothing on the "wow" size, just another smaller, lighter same same everything else. How Long can apple rely on their apps and ecosystem. They already kill it on the user experience with IOS 7. How long, how long??? No innovation.

They want you to update next year to 2 gb. Ipad air is amazing this year, I don't know if you even read up on it? There are many improvements! Not just smaller in size. They have amazing hardware that runs good apps. That's what tablets are. All tablets are useless without apps so when you ask that, it makes you seem like you don't know what you are talking about. Also, look up the word innovation please. You clearly don't know what it means.

It's simple - they say nothong about RAM during the event - there was nothing to brag about - 1GB for sure

Will not buy an iPad until it has 2gb. What a low blow. These scumbags have us on the hook. If you like iOS your stuck here no matter what they offer. And some of you are nuts. If you wanted a 10 inch tablet and Apple offered one with 512mb I bet some of you would buy it just because it has an apple logo on it.

Once you're running on Apple's tech, it's very difficult to go back to where you came from. They make what I consider to be the most fault-tolerant and idiot-proof hardware and software. Even if both devices are 1GB of RAM, I would still probably purchase at least 1 one the new iPads since the 512MB of RAM in my mini is obviously insufficient and I have already sold my 3rd gen iPad since the mini form factor is more useful for me. If Apple ever comes out with an iPad Pro in 13 or 15 inch with a photo storage and editing solution, I would definitely purchase it since I'm in the field with an 11 inch MBA, larger SSD Thunderbolt external, and the iPad mini at the moment to fulfill that function. The big push for more RAM is to be more future-proofed for the next 2-3 years. Apple probably understands this and have produced devices with only 1GB of RAM so far to save on Mfg costs as well as R&D on their boards. If they did put more RAM in either device, that would be the clincher for me as the device to purchase.

An apple support specialist already confirmed both the Air and Mini have 1GB RAM. This was last week or longer ago. Why do people still not know this?

Because it's the shakiest of shaky sources, there's no corroboration, and phone support people don't know squat.

I could believe they have 1GB, but not because of that story.

I think I see the problem now. As with the new MBPs, some people don't like the lack of options, and are making their feelings known. Same here.

Perhaps you can start a new site where only positive things can be posted. I'm sure you'd be much happier there.

People don't understand sarcasm here?

1gb to save money? How much do they save? $3? They are running 1gb because iOS is supposed to be a lean OS. I don't think any app really pushes the 1gb limit. Prove to Apple they need more than 1gb and maybe they will do it.

Yeah, some are a little slow. It helps to either already have a reputation or use the appropriate smiley. In extreme cases, the [SARCASM ON], [/SARCASM OFF] tags are needed with some specific readers.

And where exactly does it say how much RAM is available? There's apps that can tell you, but I don't recall seeing where it is in the Settings.

Clint

Yep, there is no such information in Settings :( I was sure they are

Just how important is it having 2gb instead of 1gb RAM?
I mean, my current iPad 4 does not refresh very often it seems to be doing great with 1gb on ios7. Concidering all the other hardware upgrades on iPad air, wont 1gb RAM be more than enough? are we chasing specs only for the sake of specs?

Wasn't that later reported as fake?

It was reported fake. For 2 reasons-

1. It doesn't show an image of who they are speaking to: which it does if you do if for real.

2. Lots of people asked them selfs and the same answer every time was "no one knows, it is unconfirmed by apple". Ask yourself, it's free.

1gb to save money? How much do they save? $3?

Sell 50 million iPads and you save $150 million. It's the same reason they are built in China instead of the U.S. Those couple dollars add up to a lot of profit in volume.

I do have my hopes up, however it's Apple that needs to prepare for disappointment since I will just have to hold onto my money a bit longer is all. :D But seriously, I really can't see paying to upgrade to another 1 gb only tablet. Maybe next year, oh well.

Geekbench results are starting to appear. 1GB of RAM, CPU clocked at 1.36GHz (up from 1.29GHz on iPhone 5s).
