Very American article.
Funny how that works:

I understand the site is called “Mac Rumors” and they’re trying to keep the excitement level high leading to the official iPhone announcement. But this piece is completely unnecessary. Everything that is in it has been mentioned in just about every iPhone article over the past month.

And, for the record, I agree with those who feel Apple’s product iterations are out of control. There should be no minor updates just for the sake of an update. Slow down to every other year. Likewise, iOS and MacOS updates should slow down to every other year. Meanwhile, Apple can work out the bugs instead of introducing dubious new “features” that no one asked for.

I couldn't agree more with your post, and it is something I have also been saying for a long time here, but am often told I am wrong. This forum is a bit of a vacuum as enthusiasts see things very differently to those who use iPhones in general, but aren't necessarily fans as such. I have never encountered another brand that is so applauded and admired whenever they raise prices or stiff us on incremental updates. I have certainly changed my approach to upgrading since prices have shot up and I know many people have also.
But that's what happens when you build "brand awareness" and let's give Apple credit for that. What Apple has done to their brand is no different than what Sony did for the Trinitron TV (okay showing my age here) or the PlayStation, or Harley Davidson motorcycles, or Gucci, or Rolex. You can probably come up with your own list. The fact of the matter is that's what companies try to do and create. Apple is really no different and are capitalizing on that. I however, have never owned an iPhone because I don't feel the need to spend over a $1000 on a phone.

I hope one day we get another mini. I can't see myself changing the mini until the latest ios is no longer supported on it. Peak phone for those that like outdoorsy stuff
Cant agree more. Mini is a perfect phone for people who do some sports since you dont even know youre carrying it in your pocket. Unlike the Max version which is basically a small inch flat TV in your pants.

And some of us do not require or want 256GB. If we have to pay for something we do not want, another knife in the back from Cook.
Those 256gb sound nice, until you start getting those nasty iCloud pop-up messages how there's no more room to sync your data and you have to get 1TB storage because Apple being apple doesnt offer anything between 200gb and 1TB. But the price goes all the way to 10€/month...

Androids do fall in price in the months after release I agree. I wouldn't mind so much if an iPhone 14 Pro fell from £1099 to £949 after a couple of months but Apple holds the prices for 12 months.

If we factor in inflation for this year, we should be getting a price reduction compared to this time last year then, fingers crossed.
Inflation is reported as a rate and gets compounded. It is still > 0 which means prices have increased since a year ago.

Not worth upgrading every two years anymore. I will be using my 14PM a little longer i guess. Too bad for my kids though
totally agreed with you, i stopped upgrading since the XS Max, i currently have the 14 pro max but this will be my last iphone i dont see my money worth buying another iphone, so looking forward to get the new galaxy S24U when it comes out.

It's even worse than that…

You have to jump straight from 200GB to 2TB.
Ridiculous.

I see less sales as a good thing. People should be keeping their devices longer and by extension, buying less phones.

Upgrading yearly is nonsense...even every two years is pushing it.
the problem is the people still going online and buy it, there's groups of people that dont know nothing about tech but still buys an iphone, other's they just want the latest iphone, others they just got used to iphone and buys it......

i was the one that want to have the latest iphone and as a long time apple consumer, i dont see my money worth buying another iphone.
if people would really notice how badly they are getting ripped off, they will stopped for a moment and look at another options.

Apple is not only way behind others but is also a greddy company, since steve jobs passed away and jony ive left, Apple is lost and simply they dont care about the consumer anymore.

Inflation has reduced from 11% (Oct 22) to 6.8% (present rate) though. I would expect prices to come down, although we know they are being held artificially high by supermarkets and most retailers. I doubt Apple will be honest if the rest are not.

I'm more interested in the trade in value for the 14+ to help pay for the Pro. I'm about 95% sure I'm going to upgrade at this point, but I don't want to pay the full 1099 price of whatever it is.

Very American article. Think I speak for Europe when I say we wait with baited breath whether we are clobbered again like we were last year!

It’s a "very American" article because MacRumors is a "very American" website based in the "very American" state of Virginia.

As far as prices go, you got "clobbered" last year because of the strong USD. However, even though prices went up last year in Europe they still remained fairly inline with prices in the U.S. For example, when the iPhone 14 Pro launched last year, starting prices (excluding purchase taxes) in USD were $999 in the U.S. and around $980 or so in the UK which was not significantly different.

Since the USD is weaker this year against the € and £, even if there is a price increase in the U.S. that doesn't necessarily mean there will be one in Europe.

While Apple may hold the price constant others don't. After the X-mas season EVERY new iPhone can be directly purchased for at least 15% off, sometimes north of 20% with spring lurking.
