I'd assume it's because there are some huge differences (or potential differences) in typical attributes of those particular age brackets.

stuff like:

too young to work legally.

old enough to drive an on-road vehicle. old enough to decide to finish or drop out of high school.

old enough to join the military, vote, be typical age in college.

And then there’s marketing demographics. I don’t know which age group pans out the best for peer pressure from ads (about what’s trendy, “essential” and so forth) but these groups look like they’re designed for pitching on that basis.

I’m no marketer but under 12, when it comes to having money to spend, Mom and Dad are driving the bus (yeah even if the 10-yo will prevail in asking for an iPad).

Between 16 and 18, kids get jobs after school, they have some own money.

Between 18 and 20, depending on state, kids can get credit in own name etc.

Sure, I can think of reasons too. :p I was just curious about OP's reasons.

25, but I often feel older at heart, so while I may have many ties to the 20-25 crowd, I picked 25-30.

College graduation was already three years ago? Man, I'm getting old.

If I posted my age, I think people would take my posts less seriously.
Its fun arguing with some of the older people on here. :):D

I'm as old as Dirt!

and I remember when the world was only grayscale - none of this 16M+ colors!

Are you taxed for Social Security? I assume so even though you saved it. I've been advised to start taking it as soon as possible! :)

Depends on you total income. If you're making less than $25 grand a year after retirement, you pay no federal taxes. I'm not sure about state tax though. I started to collect at 62 because I left my job a little over a year ago. I feel it was best for me since I have no desire to work full time anymore. Plus if I wait, things can change as far as age requirements, etc. Also, how long will I need to live before I break even if I start collecting when I'm 66, or 70?? Lot's of things to consider. I made the right choice for me....

BTW, I'm single with no kids, my house is paid off, I have a tenant that pays me enough for property taxes, electric and gas, and I've saved enough money to live comfortable hopefully for the rest of my life. Plus my SS. Life for me is good :)

Good to hear, thanks! My plan is to collect at 62.
