Hey people:) Cool collections.

I have a question to ask though. Why do you guys encode all your movies? Do you all have :apple:TV or your PCs hooked up to stuff. I only have my laptop on its own and the only reason I can see to encode my hundreds of movies is so that they are ready for my iPod. Any thoughts? Is it worth it?

Plus

When converting with handbreak does each movie have to be 1GB+ or can I put it down to about 700-900 per movie, since all I'm gonna be doing is watching on my iPod.

Plus

What sections do you guys fill in when tagging movies. I really only put Year, Description, Genre and Rating. I would love to know what you put in yours so my library can be up to your standards.

Sorry for the long post and all the questions but any help would be great. Thanks.

Heres my movies now by the way.

I see no point but I do films that I have on my HDD anyway so they go into iTunes.

On HandBrake you can set a size you want it to come out as.

Also I see you have How To Hook Up Your Home Theater do you reckon you could send me the artwork?

Goofy-post-1.jpg

Heres the artwork. I think it is the same as the iTunes version except for the little "animated veiws" at the bottom. Good enough for me anyway.:)

I get crazy detailed with my movies, and will probably go back and input more later. Using MetaX I try to fill out almost everything. I put the movie name in the Title field, the company that released it under Artist (Walt Disney, 20th Century Fox, etc.), the day it was released in theaters as the date, rating, genre, description of the film. Then I also fill in Director and Producer, and soon I'll go back and input Screenplay writer where applicable. And I think that's it, at least as far as I can remember without MetaX in front of me. :p

At long last I'm finally getting my library back together after the "Great Deletion of August 2008"

Seeing that Goofy artwork in there just makes me wish even more that there was another category for "Movie Clips" or "Short Films" to help break it up a little better. "Movies" and "TV Shows" just isn't as encompassing as it needs to be.

Here's hoping for the "Great Backup of 2009"
LoL, I have backed everything up 4 times to different media.

Yh it doesn't fit really which is a shame:(

Oh I forgot to mention only 4 are DVD/iTunes and the rest are m-HD:D (Micro High Definition)

Well I just started doing some of my movies this past weekend. I have well over 600 plus dvd's including tv shows and special editions etc. Don't plan on doing them all thou.

The movie poster link is great! Love seeing the old posters. Have been using them instead of some of the crap artwork that comes with dvd's.

I can also see I am going to need to put more storage in my media server sooner then later!!!!!

I'm about to rip my Walt Disney Treasures DVD and before I go and do it all, what would you class them as TV Animation or Short Films? Advantage to tagging them as TV Animation is that it only shows one piece of artwork not around 40 odd of the same if I was to put it in film, what do you guys think?

I couldn't tell you what to choose man. I've kept up with all the "Get a mac" ads since they started, and have the HD versions saved on my computer. I'd love to input them into iTunes, but they'd either show as a ton of movies, or I'd have to list them as a TV show, neither of which I want to do. That's why I wish there was a separate category. That, or the ability to group movies under a banner. For instance, all the Star Wars movies under a "Star Wars" icon, kinda like Genres does. That's probably just me though. Organized to the Nth degree. :p

Yhup that is me Dynaflash:D

Newappleboy thanks for the help, I have decided to make have it under TV Shows.

Perhaps someone else has already answered this... I couldn't find the answer anywhere. What software are you guys using to patch your screenshots together? Is there a version for free on the web?

Or How about Movie Playlists? Or a better movie organization system is definitely in order for iTunes 9!

I found this in another thread on here but it seemed worth repeating:

Under iTunes, if you show the information for the Movie - under Show, you can put something there to group things. For example, for Indiana Jones and the 4 films, I put, 'Indiana Jones' in the Show category. Now when I browse Apple TV under Movies I have one heading, 'Indiana Jones' then I click that and the 4 movies show up.

I haven't tried messing with this via MetaX yet. And I haven't figured how if there is another way to enumerate items. Lord Of The Rings drives me nuts not being in order.

Oh, what I'd give to have my AppleTV be able to see my mac's "movies" folder. Or to have integration with iMovie. Oh, what I'd give...

I am still waiting for something that snoops out a folder and looks for changes so that I don't have to go to the 'add to library' ever time I add something. But so far I am more then happy with my apple tv. I have 100 movies and counting!

As far as I know there's no software for this. I just took lots of screenshots and spent a while cropping and blending them together for mine. I wish there were a nice way though.

I've got 162 tagged movies with artwork and 402 TV-Show episodes all tagged and artworked.

Most of my movies are my DVD-collection rips done with Handbrake preserving the native anamorphic DVD resolution with the possible black bars cropped. Resulting files works in the iPod Touch and AppleTV. Being anamorphic, it preserves the DVD quality without having to scale and iTunes, Quicktime, FrontRow and the iPod Touch know how to deal with it, expanding it as they show it. I also keep the AC3 audio as a pass-through while also doing a Dolby Pro Logic II mixdown for non 5.1 devices.

They're located in my Time Capsule and going on 500G. I've set it so any of my Macs can access the same iTunes library without using local drives.

Joshua.

My photo is actually too big to add as an image or thumbnail (even after compressing it down) so if anyone is interested they will have to look at it here.

Almost 650 movies, everything is nicely organized and pretty to look at. For any sequel or trilogy I try to get matching artwork. The most current movies are now being converted in HD (Iron Man, Tropic Thunder, Wall-E, Hellboy 2, Dark Knight etc)
