I'm a little reluctant on using the new MetaX because of this one question.

Does editing chapter titles in MetaX result in the timing of chapter start/end points being off, or does it simply just rename the chapter marker, without changing the start/end time of the chapter.

For some reason, I was under the impression that using MetaX could result in your chapter markers ending/starting a couple of seconds too early/late.

I don't know about chapters starting or ending too early/late but I haven't seen any problems with it. The new Handbrake is much faster and much more reliable. It's a great update! If you're using Handbrake, update (but it's just my initial impression with about 7 movies run through it)

The one thing I don't like is that the default save location is wherever you last saved, so if you are queuing up multiple disc images in Handbrake and you don't want to save where you last saved, every time you load the next disc it will revert again and you'll have to change it. Very frustrating.

IMO that was a good move, i mainly rip/convert TV shows, so that means i have large large amounts of discs hat are queued up.. it saves a lot of time not having to re-navigate through my hard drives to pick where to save it again and again.

i would like some kind of accurate naming scheme though, so that i wouldnt over-ride a recent episode by accident.

There are some simple macros and programs that can do this :)

I'm in the process of re-encoding most of my DVD collection for the Apple TV 2.3 update. (I originally encoded them about four years ago, so didn't have both the audio tracks necessary). I've had my MacBook and iMac going constantly over the past five days and haven't had a single problem with Handbrake. At some points I might have ten or more movies queued up, and still have no problem adding more movies to the queue or navigating throughout.

This is a great update and now that MetaX has been updated, it's making my re-encoding process very smooth.

Yeah, that was one neat thing about Handbrake I didn't know until somewhat recently. I had no idea you could queue up more encodes even while it was in the process of handling ones you already setup and began. That saved me time!

I'm anticapting getting an Apple TV, I've been doing some test encoding. I use the Apple TV preset in Handbrake. Does that give a decent quality?
What's the biggest internal drive and can replace in the Apple TV? 250 or 500?

Cave Man and Dynaflash did a thread (Mainly Cave Man) on this, I think it is 1TB at the moment if you don't mind having a fatter box.

i have all my movies and tv shows stored on a PC on the network, and i just access it with Apple + K then connect to server and play them through there... at the moment they are all .avi, but im thinking of converting them all to itunes format and keeping them nicely organised in there. Is there a way to direct just the Movies section of iTunes to this PC, because I dont have enough space on my macbook to store them. If not, can i put them on a partition of the disk i use for time machine? and have the itunes movie folder look there instead?

Sorry if i should have created a new thread for this,

Luke

Quick Question regarding contents ratings

Ive just started using metax to tag all my videos and I have been giving them all UK content ratings which show up fine in iTunes BUT when I go to Frontrow for some reason only the PG ratings appear

Finally upgraded to a RAID protected 1TB drive and this is what I have so far. I love the new grid view. Makes all the time I took tagging worth it.

Can you link to the Seinfeld Artwork you are using? I have all 9 seasons on iTunes, but can't decide on which one to use.

All of the stuff I want to keep is stored on a 250GB internal hard drive. I don't have many movies at all (I'm not really one for watching things again and again, which is why I prefer Microsoft's rental-only model to Apple's buy-to-keep one) but I do have a lot of TV shows:

Each one is named properly with episode and series number plus title:

And as a bonus, here's the interface you get with the free PlayTV digital TV recorder add-on:

I think this is all light years ahead of Apple TV. Having one device which allows me to watch TV, pause it, record it, copy it, stream it to my portable, stream movies from my computer to my TV, copy movie files to its internal hard drive over my network or via USB, watch DVDs and watch Blu Ray movies is great! I've not even touched on the games, web browser, friend lists or voice chat yet!

^^Only thing I don't like about using the PS3 is that none of the TV Shows/films tags show correctly.

Can I use this Along with Parental Control

Well iTunes doesn't sell HD stuff so no they weren't bought through iTunes... You can tag all your content with a tagging program. I use MetaX it's the best, gets you rating, synopsis, artwork, and more... Highly recommended...

I'm looking for a way to tag my movies with a rating so that I can then control them with a parental control. For example, if I don't want my children watching anything rated PG-13 or above I want to be able to setup the Parental Control to manage this. Will a tool like this allow me to do it even though they are my own movies I ripped with Handbrake?

Yes - the AppleTV honours the ratings that you add via MetaX. You may have to stick to US ratings though - I've had varied success when using different country ratings.

Cheers, Ed.

How do I?

I have an iMac desktop.
I would like to use it partially as a media center for my music (CD"S) and DVD's.
I have a serious list of DVD's and CD's. I want to be able to use BLU-RAY also.
I know that I need external hard-drives but how big?

Also I need assistance as to what to buy, where, and How do I set this idea up?

Thanks for any advice.

AppleTV will work for everything but Blu-Ray. There are folks converting their Blu-Ray's to work with AppleTV but the process is tedious and cumbersome and requires Windows (no thanks.)

As for the space of hard drives...the more the merrier. I started out with 2TB and quickly realized it wouldn't be enough for movies, let alone all the TV shows and other media I wanted to have at my fingertips. Right now I'm running 6TB (I use Drobo's myself) and looking to add another 4-6TB in the very near future.

From the 3 I have done, non have need to be remuxed, if you were wondering what they were:
  1. The 9th Company
  2. The Dark Knight
  3. Lissi und der Wilde Kaiser

BTW Windows on a Mac is bliss ;)

Maybe this has been mentioned before but, How to you get the descriptions for movies and TV Show episodes on Meta X?
MetaX will look for info on Amazon.com and from tagChimp. In my experience, I use Amazon.com for the long description and many tags, tagChimp for chapter titles, short descriptions, and actor, director, producer tags. I use IMPawards.com for posters.

Just started ripping my movies, mostly mine and the wifes DVDs and a couple of iTunes Store Movies.
