I just talked with Apple and they said We can take our phones without activating. I hope everyone will take their phones without any trouble.

Considering you have to activate a phone on the IUP with Verizon, T-Mobile, sprint, or ATT, I would take what the rep told you as incorrect unless you specifically asked about paid in full phones.

If you're not going to have to deal with carrier activation, you may be out of the store much, much faster than some of the reports in this thread.

There was no carrier activation in my case, just an hour's wait in a queue.

It also depends who is in front of you in queue. I had the misfortune last year of a non-english speaker who was using his kid to translate and the debate was full purchase or Next. Kid was awesome and spoke perfect english. Dad was a total prick and I didn't even need to understand what he was saying. Took nearly an hour. And I was full purchase. This year is online and I am so much happier.

I asked on the online chat and they said I was welcome to come in at any time even before my appointment, i have an apple store on the same block I live on here in NYC and they said no, come in at the time of my appointment. I said ok lol

i had two questions would be super grateful if someone can help me as I cant get through to apple chat on their website:

1: I have a 15 min window at 2pm but I need to go in at 1pm due to work will they allow that?
2: Also if I miss my window and go later on at around 7:30pm will they keep it for me as I have paid for the reservation?

My understanding is that you will have to receive your confirmation email/text before you can go. As for #2...I dunno.

Do we need to bring the box, original headphones/lightning cable/charger brick? Or just turn in the iPhone by itself?

I was so lucky. In and out only took 15 minutes. Maybe because my orders are iPhone 7 - 32 GB - Gold. I was so nervous but Apple Store workers were really helpful to me. I hope everyone got their phones without any trouble. Thank you for your responses.

I've got a phone reserved in store tomorrow and will be signing up to the upgrade program.

Just wondered if anyone did this in the States last year and knows roughly how long I'm going to need? I've got a 15 minute window so will I end up having to queue at all?

Thanks!
In Nebraska? In NYC? Slightly different times...

And also b.c you have to activate the IUP phones on one of the big 4 carriers.
yeah no. there's an option to activate later on the employee's checkout screen.

so i went in 45 mins early spoke to one of the staff and told them my circumstance - she got the phone and I was out of there in 10 mins! Delays probably for USA customers. UK you dont need setup or activation.

No accessories or box needed, just the physical phone. They will log you out of icloud, turn off Find my iPhone, and have you erase all content and settings during the process.

My reservation was for 3 minutes ago. I'm in a reservations line, behind 20 other people. Took me 15 minutes to even talk to the guy who would tell me which line to get into and I assume check in.

On 2, generally they hold reservations until the store closes that day.

Let me tell you about my experience today. They are behind (at least the 2 stores I was at) for about an hour and it took about 45 mins to finish for one phone.

I don't know if it's been said but when I picked mine up last year I opened the box and powered it up with the associate just to make sure it was going to do at least that before I walked out.

Were you on the upgrade plan? For me I had an early reservation and was one of the first in. The whole process took about 20 minutes, about 4 or 5 of which was the associate trying to look up my order (the Apple Wallet bar code scanner was freezing up so she looked me up by name, which worked).

Got to Apple at 5:30 for my 5:30 appointment... stood in line for an hour and then someone realized that they messed up line assignments so people who WERE behind me and obviously got there after me were moved in front of me because their appointments were at 5, but obviously they showed up after 5:30

❤️people in line behind me freaked out when a worker called up someone from the wrong line and said I was next.

Got my phone at 6:30. I was asked if I wanted to set up in store or at home. I wanted to know it was working so I said in store. Glad I did, it would not update the new software update, the update failed. So here I sit. It's now 7:35

What store? I guess I got lucky the last 2 years since I was in the initial wave. Perhaps they fall behind during the day as mishaps occur.

That said, I left straight after activating. I didn't even unbox it, figuring setup, etc. was the perfect "multitasking" event during my morning phone calls.

Most folks will arrive earlier then their reservation time... so if you're in line way before the store opens, and you have a reservation slot of 10-10:30am; they're not going to keep you in queue until your time slot. Same goes for if you have a 10-10:30am slot, when you think about it...if they have folks who are already in line since 7am in the morning or 7pm last night...also with a phone reserved, they won't be able to let you jump in front of the line without causing an uproar.

Seems to me those who (from what I've read) had an early reservation (e.g. 8am) were able to get in and out quickly.

It also depends on the location you've picked. Obviously one that is downtown or union square (centrally localized) will be more busy then a suburbia one...

I've had an issue with an iPad that was unable to connect to any Wi-Fi's and an iPad with a cluster of dead pixels in the corner so I decided to stay in case there was such issues

I did not jump in line nor ask to be. I was in line. The people with 5 o'clock reservations showed up late, after I showed up. An hour after being in line they were moved ahead of me after the store host realized their blunder and rearranged all four line queues to attempt to group all the 5 o'clock reservations together, 5:30 together, 6 o'clock together, & 6:30 together. I had my iPhone 6 shipped to me and all was fine, I'll be doing that next time and screw the IUP

I wasn't talking about you specifically but it sounds like your store handled it in what they thought was the "best" way. To me it doesn't make sense because unless they only have less then a handful of time slots available (so really 2-3 at most) for every half hour increment...i wouldn't even really base it on the time slots (those are more of a guide) and effectively take in folks in line as first come, first serve. I wouldn't be happy if I waited in line so long only to have folks cut in front.

Because not everyone will be easy in easy out. There are iPhone upgrades and carrier financing...and this is on top of Apple stores having to deal with inventory and POS check out flow.

I would have had most of the associates dedicated to checking out the folks in line..and those that come in trying to do a walk in, make a reservation for them and have them in a separate line with only a few associates at most. Because that way those who have had reservations/paid pick up, gets the bulk of the support while still trying to accommodate those who waited in line all night or some even a few nights, because they couldn't do a preorder online (international or not one of the big four carriers or altogether ran out)

Come to think of it, my location didn't have a line for walk-ins that I was aware of. I suspect something happened at my store because when I arrive at 5:30 there was maybe 15 customers tops. By the time I got called into the store at 6:30, there was close to 50-60 people in line or outside the line because they wouldn't let you get in line until close to your appointment time.

Still ridiculous. But it's a learning experience for them hopefully, and next year will be better. This is the first new iPhone since iUP was introduced so maybe that's why? I would expect if that's the case next year should be a 360.
