Ignorant people are the ones the hide befind the curtain and call everyone else ignorant.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

It's not the ignorant / stupid that irritate me. It's the ones who insist on staying that way.
Like the guy I met in a pub who didn't go home before 9pm because his wife had given him 2 daughters.[/QUOTE]

Wow. Just because his wife gave him 2 daughters?
What a duche.

Sounds like one of those guys who buys everything and anything that is the most expensive of its kind, Because they think they "need" it because it is "better" than everything else.

Purchasing things blindly, without really knowing what it is you are buying and what you need will eventually screw you over.

There are obvious benefits to thinking that you're smart, or really smart.
THere are also benefits to thinking that that your stupid ( but maybe not REALLY stupid :D)

there are also downsides.

The downside to thinking that you smart is discovering that you're not. This humbling (inevitable) experience can be rather painful, humiliating, (but sometimes illuminating).

For the person who thinks they are stupid, discovering that they are smart .......Ain't gonna happen :D but hey! it will save you all that messy self discovery crap. (I should know....i'm one of them :) )

Reply after having only read the title: very stupid.

Reply after having read your story: not that stupid, actually.

Yes the dumb and the dumber

I think the dumber don't use computers and the dumbest work at turnpike toll booths and bridge toll takers. Give them a roll of coins any kind and they will look at it as if is something they have never seen and count every penny!:(

The best AV is common sense and you. I would give you an 8 on the scale.

Cheers! :)

OK,good.

This is what I did: first I downloaded Sophos (the free version), run it and the number of threats it detected was zero.

Then I thought to myself-do not be stupid AGAIN,probably this free stuff is no good, so be smart,go and buy something REAL.
And then I went and bought the Intego Internet Security barrier-I could not find anything more expensive than that and the reviews i saw indicated it to be the creme de la creme in the Mac AV.

You know how many threats it detected......ermmmm......right....ZERO....

Now,I still cannot shake off the feeling that these Intego guys are smarter than me.....:(

More expensive doesn't necessarily mean better. Its kinda like buying shoes and clothing. Its actually the brand that makes the product expensive and not the product itself. I have Sophos AV (the paid version...my dad got one from his company for $20) and its working fine for me!

Would you like a shovel to dig that hole deeper that shows what kind of individual you really are? What I have quoted below shows exactly that...

I actually have a friend who's a hacker that tricks people with a virus download and/or email that infects their computer. It's non-detectable with 90% of the anti-virus available in the market and once infected, the program will steal personal information (aka credit cards, identity, and/or email addresses) and upload to his server.

The fact that you would associate with, and willingly call someone who is a thief a friend speaks volumes about your integrity.

Besides, you make having a family, maintaining a home and getting a career extremely challenging so much that people don't "have time to waste on something that will not work".

errr...thats because it is and once you have grown up and assumed the responsibilities that come with a career (again not a jo but a career), home ownership, family, etc. you will realize that. I am away from my house and the things that interest me M-F from six am to six pm. This is in addition to having to put in an additional 4-16 hours on the weekend at home just to be able to stay caught up with things at work. When I get home I need to cook, clean, and do other things required to maintain a household, and that is without having the responsibility of a wife or children. As a result I need to pick and chose very carefully how I spend my free time and what information I am willing to absorb. In a nutshell, I only focus on the details of things (my hobbies) that interest me greatly and ignore the facets of other things.

I will admit I do get what your saying. I am guessing you are in your early 20's or so. As a result it probably seems like you have all the time in the world, this will change however. I am 43 and up until my late 20's/early 30's I had less responsibilities than I do now, and as a result was able to keep up with what is current in terms of computer technology, and I was the one frequently helping out my elders with their computers, but I never thought of or called them stupid, I understood they did not have the time to devote to understanding the technology.

These days however life is much different from me, so if I need something to fulfill a task I usually tell people I need something to do "X, Y and Z", and than sort through the responses to find what I think will do the job best for me.

I guess that makes life different for a person in the 40's and 20's. Well, I'll think about that while helping someone next time. Besides, the guy was like in his 20's also. I understand that elders don't understand their technology well because my grandparents are in their 80's and still learning how to use email. I have patience with them with teaching them because I understand that this type of technology is new to them.
Thanks!
