Maybe because we don't always run full screen apps? (I hardly ever do) So it's basically an irrelevant point.
People could slap a black bar on the top of the wallpaper while in dark mode or turn off in transparency when in dark mode, and you wouldn't see the notch. That's what I plan to do. Not trying to convince you to do that or of anything, I respect your opinion on the matter.

Apple famously does no “market research”. The trade off is that they dominated the industrial design community as as design visionaries. People brought their products because there was a level of polish and perfectionism at every single level, without compromise. That is, emphatically, no longer true. That’s why people care about the notch.

That actually is just marketing xD They do market research. Not only do I have second hand (good friend worked for a firm that did it for them) but you don't have to take my word for it. You can just read the market research studies that Apple used in its case against Samsung and other lawsuits.

They are a successful company, they use the tools needed for that success. Sure, they may still not use consumer research to determine which new product category to enter and turn upside down, but they certainly use them to understand their customers.

Except the menu bar needs to be displayed in a lot of apps. What you'd have to do is move the menu bar down instead.
Just go to Accessibility and turn off Transparency. Then turn on dark made. Voila…solid black menu bar.

Ah, so it’s not even the tiny black rectangle that ruins an otherwise incredible computer, it’s what’s in it.

That must be the “special” class.

I don't think so. The notch seems unusually big for just a camera without face id.

Anyone know if the hardware is sufficient to support face id in the future, or if they are just creating the design language for a "future notch."

If Apple added a big hole in the middle of the screen it would be a great idea for the fans Apple can do no wrong need to get that 20 dollar cloth but its sold out

Actually, I really don't care about much about this as a pro doesn't serve my needs, but I do think it is ugly.

I hope they don't notch the next air. And I really, really hope they don't notch future ipad pros.

It would make the ipad pro ugly and not symmetrical when turning viewing angles.

I agree! Could be a wee bit smaller. And yeah, could be a placeholder for future FaceID. Good thought. No argument there.

The hilarity starts when notchophobes call its mere presence a “dealbreaker,” and it reaches cosmic levels when it’s not even the notch but whether or not the notch is worth it because of what is or isn't inside it.

I feel like Steve Jobs would be ripping someone a new “notch” before throwing them out.

I don't think so. The notch was inspired by the sleek, elegant, yet supremely functional, design of the parking lot at Apple's Cupertino campus which took 3,000 obsessed artists, engineers, designers architects and musicians to tirelessly construct. ;)

Is there a function key that places the mouse at the exact center of the screen? Would be nifty for when you can't find it.

Wiggle the cursor to find it. Your eye will be attracted to the movement. You can also throw it to any of the corners if wiggling isn't to your liking.

Apple has officially regressed in design. Very sad day. There's no reason this notch has to exist, it's a complete waste of screen space just to reduce the bezel size. Ridiculously foolish design decision for no benefit to function at all.

I hope Apple is lambasted for this decision; their design has taken a marked nose-dive since the latest iMac. Terrible.

Me to i think it makes it look like the iphone and ipad but still makes it look clasic, if you know what i mean

Most people just jiggle it back and forth, the movement makes it easier to see and the pointer gets bigger to make it easier to see. You won’t lose the pointer behind the notch. It’s not that big.
