I've not ripped any Blu-Rays so I'm going on mainly DVD ripping knowledge here but we'll see if it helps. And I'm guessing you're doing Blu Ray if the discs are double sided & giving you 1GB episodes 🙂

Nope, I'm using DVD's that I've ripped using this thread's scripts.

Here's the first disc with only one episode (actually three episodes made into one full length film, so on the DVD set it is one episode). As you can see, the main files are split into 1.07 GB chunks. For the first disc, it is 5 of these chunks plus 1 at the end that is a little smaller.

And here is the second disc with two episodes. Here there are three 1.07 GB chunks plus 1 of a smaller size for two episodes of comparable lengths of 48 minutes and some seconds.

I'm assuming the other, smaller files are the bonuses that are on each disc. I decided to upload these screenshots in case I wasn't explaining things right, something that I am known to do. When I open these using the Handbrake GUI, it sees them correctly as one episode plus bonuses for the first disc, and two episodes plus bonuses for the second disc.

I might be overlooking something, but I cannot, for the life of me, tell what to rename these files so that the Batch Rip Encoder can take it from there.

I've got a feature request.

I currently have three drives I use for ripping multiple DVDs at once. This works great with Batch Rip Automator because I can insert all three discs, wait for them to appear in Finder, then go through the prompts and queue all the discs up to be ripped. One problem I've encountered with this method is with certain TV shows. Since Batch Rip Automator doesn't show its prompts in order in which DVDs were mounted, I only have the disc title to go by when determining which DVD is being ripped. Some TV shows have the same title for all discs in a season (such as Alfred Hitchcock Presents which are all entitled ALFRED_HITCHCOCK). Therefore there's no way to know which disc is which when answering the prompts, which means I have to rip one disc at a time. Is there any way to include the drive name on each prompt? Since I know which disc I inserted in which drive, this would allow me to distinguish which disc is which and make my workflow much more efficient.

Scott - The images helped a lot. I think you're trying to rename the files a little too early. The folders you have taken the screenshots of appear to be the folders produced after the rip stage. Before you get the final single episode per file fileset (which are the ones you want to run the rename on) you'll need to kick off the batch encode stage. That will run through all the DVD copies in the "Batch Rip TV/Movies" folders and put single files in the "Batch Encode" folder (all 3 of which should be in your home directory). It's the files in the Batch Encode folder that then get renamed.

Multiple languages and native languages?

Mac.jedi thanks for the tool suite: it is really nice. I have been looking at the source and wondering how difficult it would be to support the following:

1. Get multiple audios and subtitles (as soft subtitles).
2. Support multiple native languages. I am not sure what this would mean for "forced subtitles" since one would not want to burn in two languages on top of each other. Are m4v players smart enough to match the ISO code for the audio track to that of the subtitles when seeing subtitles need to be forced? I am going to see what Handbrake does if I get both ENG and FRA audio tracks, corresponding subtitles, and Foreign Audio Search as Forced Only but not Burned In (the Handbrake default).

Being able to do those would be awesome, for DVDs and BDs. I like being able to watch a movie in its original language when I understand it but if I watch a movie in French with a friend who is not (or less) fluent I will put subtitles on.

PS: if you wrote the MOVIE_NAME_titleInfo.txt file in the Encode directory and not in the source directory, would you be able to encode straight off DVDs through Fairmount rather than need to rip those first? I am wondering.

Handbrake Presets in the Automator

I have been working on this automation for a while and have run into an interesting issue. In my excitement for the new AppleTV (and associated presets), I was checking the Automator scripts for whether I could initiate two separate encodes at the same time to accommodate my new Apple TV(s) and my iPad 2(s) so I could do a single encode with top line encoding of 720 and the other with max encoding of 1080. During my investigation - the GUI portion of the Scripts don't take into account new presets from Handbrake.

For example, there were recently some Andriod presets added to the list in Handbrake (not sure when as I don't have an Android and wasn't super interested in them). However, when I bring up the Batch Rip|Encode Service as part of the Batch Rip Scripts, there aren't any Andriod presets. I can only imagine this is the case when I create my own personal preset for my 1080 scans.

Can anyone tell me whey not all presets are reflected in the GUI options for the Encode Service? Is there anything that I need to do to make *all* presets appear?

Any help is appreciated.

yes you can have it encode twice. I do it all the time. i have the HD option and SD option selected and which preset to use. I encode at 720p and SD for each Blue-ray so I can use it anywhere.

I use Plex to watch my movies (through an Apple TV2) so don't need to convert the movies to mp4/m4v. But I am looking for an Automator workflow (or something similar) that would grab the movie name/info from IMDB and rename them with the correct title and year, without wanting confirmation (fully automated).

It appears that the "Add Movie Tags (Filename) workflow only works with the converted file format and still needs confirmation of the movie title. Is that correct?

If so, is there any way to automatically rename movies of any format and without needing any confirmation, so that it's completely automated?

I am hoping mac.jedi is watching. but what we need is a new updated Batch Encode and another option to Encode at 1080p. he has 720p, so now we need 3 - SD, HD(720), HD(1080) for Blue Ray's

The problem is goign to be 1, gotta wait for HB to update their presets, 2. The taggign routine he uses has to be updated for the flag to be marked as 2 to indicate HD(1080)

Yes Mac.jedi I'm watching and trying your mac actions and scripts for month (or is it already years?!) it's just great! extraordinary good work!

Tahitibub and Dr.Crash mentioned it earlier and it hits my needs as well. Nor I'm(GER) native english neither is my wife(CR). But we agreed to english audio with english soft subtitles when it comes to movies because 1) it's more relaxing for both of us together 2) it's more real 🙂 For language lessons my wife want to keep everything in my native language as well.
So my questions since long time are:
1) When/What is needed to get multi native languages (at least two native languages)
2) When/What is needed to get everything from the source as non-burned-in soft subtitles

Is there anyway I can use this process to convert single VOB files?

Despite leesy's optimistic response, I decided manually converting my VOBs wasn't an option when I went looking to see how many I could find, there were 1500+ mainly due to TV shows 😱

I've been trying to consider workarounds and have tested one which appears to have worked. I've come to the conclusion that the reason this process ignores VOBs is the actual script itself as opposed to handbrake (since handbrake natively accepts VOBs) and it came to me today whilst looking at the output from the terminal window that once handbrake takes over handbrake assesses the file itself and identifies the format of both the video and audio.

So what I thought I'd try was to trick the script into recognising the file in the hope that by the time handbrake took over, it would ignore the extension and code it based on its assessment. I tested one file, renamed it as an AVI file...and it worked!! 😎

I'm going to test on a larger batch of files, maybe 20 and will confirm if everything is still ok, but I thought I'd let everyone know my findings in case anyone else ends up in the same situation as me.

Anyoen having issues with rename and tag TV Shows?? since Saturday, i get nothing but errors. Returns that i need to tag items and that maybe tv.org is not responding? I just finished tagging over 1000 episodes. So i know how to do it..

Closer to Complete Automation

I have (I think) only 1 hang-up left from having this completely automated. My scenario is:

1) I have a handful of shows in Sick Beard
2) I have those shows handed over to SABNzb+ for download.
2a) I have tweaked the Categories and Sorting in SABNzb+ so (for example) SABNzb+ renames a tv show to be {TV Show Name - S01E01.mkv} format, or movies to {Moviename (Year).mkv}.
3) I have Hazel moving files around after download complete to my folders setup as part of this workflow
4) I have an iCal appointment setup to automatically run the Batch Encode on anything in the /Batch Rip */ folders.
5) I then have Hazel setup to watch the /Batch Encode for complete (green label) shows with [TV Show] comment, run the [Add TV Tags (Filename) workflow, then subsequently move into my /Video/TV Shows folder and add to iTunes.

However, I get hung-up on one thing - when the show goes through the [Batch Encode] workflow - since there is already an .mkv file with the [TV Show Name - S01E01] format - the workflow adds a -1 to the filename, so that it ends up being: [TV Show Name - S01E01-1.m4v], which then makes the Add TV Tags workflow not work. Even if I didn't have the [Add TV Tags] workflow as an after thought, the one that is built into the [Batch Encode] doesn't work due to the file name issue as well.

Any suggestions how I can get around the addition of -1 to the filename? Is there anything that I'm missing so I can completely automate the download, encode, rename, tag and move into iTunes? I am so close...

Do a name match on a custom token with the -1 at the end. Then have it renaming with the custom token.ext

I have automated everything 100% with SABnzbd, couchpotato and sick beard. I never touch anything anymore, so if you have questions, let me know, I can get you figured.

I worked with the AMAZING developer of hazel to get it fixed, so it should be fixed in the next release. I want to do a writeup on how I got it all to work, just finding the time, and things keep changing (hazel 3.0, appletv3 just out, etc), so I've always just done the whole 'when things settle down' stupid. I should get it done and move on.

I have gotten lots of help with mac.jedi on making things work better with hazel (implementing touch actions which help with hazel timing). I really wish he would put up a paypal donate button, so I can press it a few times. Its amazing work he does. Anyhow, I have told him I wanted to write it up a few times, just havnt gotten around to it.

I use multiple custom shellscripts, applescripts, and hazel rules to take EyeTV recordings and get them ready for iTunes. I use your add tv tags action that is based on the file name and it works great. I seem to remember in the past that you had an action that used the airdate of the show to grab the tags from theTVDB.

I occasionally have shows that eyetv records that do not have episode numbers for whatever reason but do have the correct air date. Is this action still available?

So you are saying you have a folder full of files to be processed, and hazel is picking choosing which to do? If so, I find that odd, unless the rules are based on time, like 'when the file is older than 2 hours, etc.

Kind of ... the workflow is like this:

• My target format for video files is AVC in MKV
• So, all videos either need re-encoding into AVC and muxing in MKV, or just re-muxing into MKV
• I have a single directory for 'candidates' - a Hazel rule on that directory watches for 'video' files and runs a script on them. That script either re-encodes and re-muxes, or just re-muxes, depending on the video content. (The re-encode is performed explicitly using mac.jedi's scripts/Handbrake handling.)
• When ripping using mac.jedi's workflow, the MPEG-4 output is dumped into this 'candidates' directory.
• Any files copied from old archives (say, MPEG-2 encodes of home video) are copied straight to the 'candidates' directory.

Generally the process works very well, but sometimes files arrive in the 'candidates' directory quite quickly, and there are a number of renaming actions going on (as encodes and re-muxes complete). Once any encoding and re-muxing is complete, not all the files have been re-muxed as MKV - as if Hazel has 'missed' the creation/copy of some of them.

Hope this makes sense ... any ideas? Do you think touch actions might help?

Subtitles refuse to extract

MacJedi,

I am completely unable to extract pgs subs from any blurays, e.g. star wars, avatar (forced english, english default). I already have the mkv extracted with makemkv with all subtitle tracks present and visible in VLC, and they read out as tracks when the batch script scans the file. But I always get this type of error whatever the file (running Batch Encode (Finder):

*Extracting PGS Subtitle Tracks from temp file…
Error: No track with the ID 5 was found in the source file.

I thought that these are special cases where there is no forced flag, and I have to specify the subtitle track in the encode script, e.g. --subtitle 2 but I think the problem is with the actual extraction before it ever gets to handbrake. I had downloaded mkvtoolnix 5.3 from within batch automator and opened that up to find mkvextract. If I try to run that from command line to extract the subs all I ever get is:

mkvextract tracks sourcefile track:file.sup

Error: Extraction of track number 3 with the CodecID 'S_HDMV/PGS' is not supported.

The version that mkvextract reports is:
mkvextract v2.3.0 ('Freak U') built on Sep 12 2008 18:16:34

is this the current version?

This is driving me crazy--any help appreciated! Everything else is working beautifully.

[edit]: i was able to extract them with mkvextract by running it in the source file directory...so i know it should work. Ill see if i have a full log from batch script.
