For this who had asked earlier in the thread, I ordered a phone last night at midnight through the iup link posted here, and decided to pay for the phone in full at the store. There was no problem. I walked out with an unactivated Verizon phone.

You paid in full, and did not register for the iUP program? Were you ever in the iUP program?

So you were never "forced" to open the Verizon phone and activate it right then and there in the store?

Every specialist I talked to says if you buy any carrier device (besides T-Mobile) full-price, you still have to activate it on that carrier in store.

I paid full price and they did not force me to open the Verizon phone.

That's not true. You can always ask not to activate or do a sim swap.

Correct. And I was never in the IUP program.

This is good news, as I am hoping for a Verizon model but am not on a big four carrier (cricket here) so I cannot order online. I will try the reserve link again tonight, and hopefully I can snag a model I want without having to do the iUP program.
Thanks for sharing your experience! It really helps!

I'm gonna try that too since there are numerous reports of being able to reserve a phone with IUP but can choose to pay full-price at the store.

I used the same link and was able to reserve a TMobile phone even though I have an ATT account this morning. Apple doesn't care as long as you pay full price which I did. One thing I should say about the Verizon phones; Apple will not sell you one unless you have an active Verizon account with them regardless how you pay for it. Another buyer was trying to talk them into it but they wouldn't budge for him. Kinda/sorta stupid.

I kept checking the page last nite until about 1:30am. By then most of all the stores had their inventory on the site. I'm on the east coast.

I swapped out SIM cards before I turned on the new iPhone. Worked like a charm and I am up and running.

darn! I would have had a 7 this morning (just till my 7 plus delivers) had I gone through with that.

edit: darn again! I just checked again since last night, and it's now down to only 3 states, and now only 3 malls in CA.

If I reserved an phone with the IUP will I be "forced" into getting the phone under the program. I just want to pay in full and get it over with.

So instocknow is showing stock to be reserved?
That doesn't make sense.

I selected a phone in my local Apple Store and it says shipping in 2-3 weeks.

Doesn't sound like the purpose of a stock checker to me.

I was thinking of going to the Apple Store and seeing about bringing my phone back. Going with another color and size. But I would imagine it being a Sunday after launch day that it will be a mad house at the Apple Store. Good luck to those of you that do go!!;)

appreciated the link. It worked great. My second 7plus was set for Oct delivery, after checking this link this morning. The one I wanted is available at my local Apple store, I made reservation and just picked up this morning. I got home and cancelled the other one... Perfect! Again, thanks.

Awesome!

Also, to anyone who is an expert at this, I need your advice/help.

I just reserved an Iphone 7 Plus 128 gb Black (the model I've wanted :) ) however i believe the link I used was the Apple Upgrade Program link. Will Apple allow me to use my reservation to simply buy the phone with Verizon on a 2 year subsidized price?(I believe it will come out to $400-$500ish) Thank you so much in advance for your help.

I believe so because in the email for the reservation it says:
"Can I change to a different form of payment for the iPhone Upgrade Program?
Yes. You can also upgrade your iPhone to carrier financing or purchase it at full price. Ask a Specialist for more information."
