I feel this is not really a well thought through product and ultimately wont work well in any direction but with certain potential for being abused.

I keep posting this but stalkers are rare to the point of fictional and theft is common. This is a very silly trade off to favor irrational fear instead of practical reality.
Unfortunately domestic violence is common and stalking is a frequent part of that. So there are 100s of these cases in your community right now. This is true everywhere.

I otherwise agree that I can see using these to protect expensive things from being stolen and i would want that. It may be we have to wait for a 3rd party device.

LOL, I can’t believe so many of you guys think that a device can track you when it only has a range of 30 meters at most. For that to work the person tracking would have to stay within 30 meters of you. If they stay within 30 meters of you, do they really need an AirTag? LMAO. The AirTags are for finding your keys, remotes, or other items you misplace around your home. They are not James Bond style trackers.

You put them on the glasses whenever you take off your glasses, then put them back on your glasses whenever you're not wearing them.
The only problem with that is, just the action alone of placing the airtag on the glasses is probably enough to jog your memory of where you left them. In that case, placing any object on/near your glasses every time you take them off would work.
With that being said, I lose my glasses all the time, so what do I know?!

I personally believe this is the biggest issue with the product. I think the amount of people worried about being tracked nefariously is less than the amount of people worried about their stuff being stolen.

Well, stalking and nefarious tracking is a much more serious issue that someone’s crap beinf stolen. Apple doesn’t want to put out a product that facilitates abuse of other humans.

What about this? My wife put one in her purse to keep track of it. I work from home. When she’s going to work, she leaves her purse at home. Will I get annoying lost messages all day long? Or will it learn not to produce them around your own home?

Well, they use every iPhone in the world to track devices so…

i think this was explained, but what if someone stole your bag and then did this? wouldn't that defeat the purpose of having an airtag in it?
If a thief did this (followed all the instructions, which might contain enough information for a police report), they might be identifying themselves (with their Apple ID and current location) as being in possession of reported stolen property.

But didn't they say it was end to end encrypted so even apple can't tell who lost it or who finds it?

You are not understanding yet how these work. I think there’s a lot of people who don’t understand. Come back in a month or two by then you will understand more about these cool items.

I don’t know how to tell you that without sounding rude.

Any word on sudo geofencing? Like if my camera bag with an airtag in it gets dragged further than 10 feet from me, an alarm will go off on my phone and airtag?

some such things could be done. It depends.

“If this then that” app could work for some situations

Once they've taken your bag and got away, it's over. As someone who has lived in or next to a big city their entire life, the police will NOT help you track down stolen property, even if you have a map leading them right to it.
Maybe not where you live.

Gr8 so if i steal a bag or something i have a way 2 turn off that thing and also steal the batery inside? Pretty cool indeed
