You need to be jail broken, and if you have an iPad 2 with latest iOS it's impossible for you right now.

They did it again...

Well, as of today, those bastards at cablevision are blocking the use of any earlier optimum app version lower than 2.0.2. Was watching tv on my phone yesterday while at the dr's office and today a message pops up saying that this version (2.0.1) is no longer supported and must be upgraded.

Of course I didn't upgrade, but 2 options came to mind:

1 - Don't upgrade, stay stuck not being able to do anything with the app and wait for one of the geniuses around here to patch it to make the servers over at cablevision think that the app is up to date and have everything work as it once did.

2 - Upgrade, be able to use the app like normal - all functions but only watch live tv in my home network.

Now i'm sure that if I upgrade to 2.0.2, the BS message about being jailbroken will pop up and I won't be able to do anything anyway. My guess is that they patched the jailbreak patch as well as the vpn patch.

What does everybody think?

I don't have this app but follow this discussion because it's a similar cat-and-mouse game to what's going in with the Time Warner Cable TV app…

Anyway, what you might try doing is going inside the 2.0.1 version of the app. (You can do this via SSH or iFile, whatever method you use to traverse the file directory of your jailbroken iDevice.)

Inside the Cablevision app, find the file "info.plist" … open that up to edit it… and change the "BundleVersion" from 2.0.1 to 2.0.2.

This will make your current version of the app masquerade as version 2.0.2 --and maybe that's enough to trick the Cablevision server. It's worth a shot…?

Unfortunately, editing the .plist doesn't work..

I really hope someone comes up with a fix for this...

Just another reason to add to the "I Hate Cablevision List".. Oh wait.. that list filled up a long time ago.

That was a good idea but before I got a chance to try it it seems like it doesn't work based on hockey9999's reply...

I would like to think that there will be a fix sometime soon. At least I'm certainly hoping there is some recourse, whether it be to edit settings in 2.0.1, upgrade then patch 2.0.2, or whatever else it takes.

I'm just very thankful for those that know how to do this stuff and share it with everyone...please help!

So changing cydia app folder name will make it not detect jailbreak and log in, but VPN is not working anymore on 2.0.2 it says not on home network

Haven't tried your vpn patch but I did find another solution that works and i'm watching live tv again:

1. Remove the 2 patches installed for 2.0.1 (the JB patch and the VPN patch)
2. Use 3G Unrestrictor or My3G (Im using 3G Unrestrictor) and add the optimum app to the list.
3. Change Cydia folder name to bypass JB detection
4. Connect to VPN
5. Watch live tv anywhere again
6. Curse out cablevision in victory celebration

Credit goes to eslash on sinful iphone for this solution.

I don't remember how and where I installed the two 2.0.1 patches to remove them. Can you post what to remove?

Thank you hanteck your VPN patch worked beautifully!!
Coleman i was able to delete those patches in cydia under packages.

Did you need to do the steps I posted even with installing hantecks VPN patch?
Does having his VPN patch provide a better solution than what I found or is it basically the same as far as usage? I guess the only difference is not having to put the Optimum app on the 3G Unrestrictor list. Is there any benefit to not having it on the list as opposed to having it on?

Still searching for a JB patch so we don't have to keep on renaming Cydia in ifile, although for as often as I use the live tv anywhere ability and how quick it is to edit the cydia folder, its not killer to not have it.

I downloaded 3g unRestrictor as you suggested but i never got the app to actually play live footage, it sort of just hung around loading but never played. Im not sure how 3g unrestrictor works but even if i got the app to play live footage i would imagine i would be consuming a great amount of data, and since i dont have an unlimited data package that would be bad .

Thank you Hantek and bbduff! I'm streaming Live TV over VPN again! Hantek's VPN file works and renaming Cydia to something else works for jb detection. I don't understand, 2.0.1 had the exact same check and I have a .deb for it. Can someone create a new patch so we don't have to rename Cydia?

This works for me well, I am using Optimum 2.0.2, Windows 7, and an iPhone 4 over 3G. (I have 3G Unrestrictor)

Okay so renaming the cydia folder is annoying I agree. But I have a solution for those who can't get cydia operating properly.

1. Locate Cydia.app (and rename it, if you haven't done so already).
2. Locate Info.plist and Rename the following properties:
a. CFBundleExecutable: Cydia2
b. CFBundleIdentifier: com.saurik.Cydia2
c. CFBundleName: Cydia2
3. Finally rename the file Cydia to Cydia2 (you can find it in Cydia.app)

Now Cydia + Optimum should work in harmony!

Also:

If you are using a theme this will normally break the icon.
You need to go to var/stash/Themes/(the theme you use)/Bundles/

Then look for com.saurik.Cydia, if it isn't their create it. Place the icon you want in that folder. And rename the folder appropriately. (in my case it would be com.saurik.Cydia2 .

I hope this helps anyone who was having trouble with both apps.

Yo vinnymac! Thanks, that worked on my iPad 2. It kind of bothers me that the icon renamed also but whatever. I did it on my iPhone 4 but it messed up Cydia this time. I had to reinstall.

Ok so i have been following this thread for months.. finally decided to give it a shot... i followed the instructions.. and its not working... the optimum app is no longer seeing the JB so i guess i did my cydia renaming correctly (although cydia no longer opens i renamed it to "cyd!a") i set up my vpn to my home, connect to it but i when i try to watch "live tv" it still tells me i have to be connected to my home network. i am using "my3g" and set the optimum app to use it (although if im on a wifi it shouldnt matter). not sure what i am doing wrong but any insite will help.. thanks in advance...

my stuff: iphone 4 ios 5, optimum app v2.0.2

UPDATE!!! I got it working.. problem was i never installed the .deb file.. i used Hanteks patch in posting #307... works great!!!

There is an update available. Does anyone know if the updates break watching Live TV over VPN?

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_2_8 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8E401 Safari/6533.18.5)

I have version 2.0 and I still can't get it to work over VPN. Used the patch, used 3G unrestrictor. Nothing works. Any ideas?

Is it seeing that it's jailbroken or it's seeing the VPN?

The jb patch worked. After I connect to the VPN it keeps saying I'm not on the network. But I know I am since I can reach my local pc's and networking gear.

You need the VPN patch.

App Update

The Optimum app is forcing an update. Has anyone done it yet? Is it going to affect my VPN?

I did the update and it's still working for me. I always back up the .app out of iTunes before I do updates just in case. I copy it off to a different drive.
