Now when i try to watch optimum tv on my ipod i get a message "you"re running an unauthorized apple software" whats the deal? I wanted to hook up my ipod touch to the tv using component cables and use it as a cable box. My only option is to go back to its original settings to watch optimum tv on the ipod but!!!! That meand i wont be able to send the signal to the tv. Can anyone guide me?? What would be my best approach? Thanks!

Is it the twc app that won't let me do this?

Hangs at Connect: ppp0 <--> socket 34:17

Hello, I followed directions to a T and it hangs at Connect: ppp0 <--> socket 34:17. Then I get the message on the ipad that says..."You have been disconnected by the communication device" I am using a Linksys E3000. What am I missing? Please help. I appreciate any and all help.

Thank you.

Whats up guys!

Just signed up to macrumors after finally giving up on my 4 hour quest at getting this to work, I initially tried to install a firmware flash to one of the two routers on my network for DD-WRT, but I couldn't for the life of me find out how to even attempt it...

I have a jailbroken iphone 4, with ExCon on it, 3G Unrestrictor to make it think its on wifi for the optimum app, and a deb file which disables optimum vpn check.
So the phone is ready to go, if I finally get it connected through VPN..

I tried using this guide to get a VPN server on my mac going, but I just can't get it to work. I also have a desktop PC with XP Pro on it, tried setting up a VPN server thats supported within windows, and it wouldn't connect through that either. Tried every guide there is too...

Any pointers?

I think everything I needed to input in EasyVPN client is solid, but I can't get a recognition of any connection whatsoever between my mac and the iPhone 4.

This is what I get, and after it listens to connections, and I click VPN ON in the phone, nothing, the phone says the server is not responding:

#Start-Date: 2012-01-18 02:08:17 EST
#Fields: date time s-comment
2012-01-18 02:08:17 EST Loading plugin /System/Library/Extensions/PPTP.ppp
2012-01-18 02:08:17 EST Server 'com.apple.ppp.pptp' moved to background
2012-01-18 02:08:17 EST Listening for connections...

Hopefully someone can finally help me out!

Is it the twc app that won't let me do this?

Im in the same place you are I think. I have the easyvpn setup and working n my Mac Mini. I have the device connected with an internal ip. When i do what is my ip from my phone on 3g it shows my home IP. so far so good.

but when i try to connect with the app i get "could not connect to server"

I think one of my issues is the step here mentions optimum for the search domain... do we have a different one for TWC?

how did you get yours to sign in ??

**UPDATE** So I have turned off vpn and got back on my wifi and I'm still getting the error below. lets hope its their servers.
scratch that... seems was a server issue n their side. its working through vpn. though slow on 3g

Hey guys, so I set up VPN through my home computer and am able to connect via VPN through my iPad. However, right when I connect to the VPN server, none of my apps that require internet connection works and Safari states that "I am not connected to the internet". Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

It appears that setting "Auto assign IP address via DHCP" from the Windows 7 VPN Client does not function as it should. The IP addresses I am assigned when connecting to the VPN are way out of my DHCP range. I also noticed that I can browse over VPN only through IP address and not DNS. ANY HELP?! THanks.

I can't offer help man. I am using EasyVPN and not using Windows 7. :(

Someone I know is claiming their optimum app Allows him to watch live tv outside of his home network and he is not jailbroken, is this at all possible ???

I don't use the optimum app but I can watch Live TV on the timewarner ipad app without being on the home network. Also works with the iphone now too.
It does require having my laptop acting as a hotspot though.

More details, please. Is your iPad jailbroken? And are you using a VPN connection?

Can someone please write up a tut for Time Warner Cable. Ive been trying for weeks:mad:

This thread discusses how the TWCableTV app refuses to run on JB devices. It also refuses to run if a VPN is connected.

For starters you need to install a JB hack that works around this. There were a bunch of hacks offered in that thread, as well as Cydia. Names like FakeTimeWarner, or Xcon...

This is the latest file I have found (works for me, at least.) It's not in a regular Cydia repo. You need to install it yourself via SSH/SFTP. Google for more on that.

Now, I followed the tutorial in the first post of this thread, on how to get the VPN connected. Very straightforward and easy. I'm using EasyVPN on my home office iMac.

The only thing I set differently was the "search domains." Instead of "optimum.net" I put "socal.rr.com" -- and I got that by going to one of my home Macs, checking to see what was auto-entered for my broadband connection, under DNS settings (under System Preferences -> Advanced.) Yours will likely be different.

Now I can use the SBSettings button for VPN to connect (and disconnect.) Which it lets me launch the TWCableTV on my jailbroken iPad, even when I am away from home, even when I am on 3G, and be able to watch live streaming TV.

Nice!

No not jailbroken.
Basically you need to VPN to your house to get this to work but since the app detects if you are connected on VPN you have to use your IPAD or Iphone connected to an access point which then is connected to your house via VPN. No VPN shows up in this case for the app to detect.

Anyway, I use mhotspot to make a hotspot on my windows laptop. (really useful program plug) I have a PPTP VPN connection setup that is set to allow other connections to share this internet connection. (it's in the sharing properties for the VPN connection)
I select the hotspot connection as the one that I want to be able to use the VPN connection. (Again in sharing props for VPN)
Connect the IPAD or Iphone to the hotspot, enable the VPN connection and the app works fine with good quality. There aren't that many channels that are supported so it's pretty limited what you can watch but it does work fine with the ones they allow.
That said, I use a Vulkano (placeshifter) that allows me to stream whatever is on the settop box currently which I get a lot more use out of than the app.

Having trouble setting up VPN

I have a Mac running Lion, easy VPN installed
JB iPad 2 running 5.0.1

So far I was able to bypass the jailbreak recognition and set up my router for port forwarding using the methods described on the first entry of this thread

However I've been unsuccessful in getting my computer and iPad linked via VPN
On my pad I get a "the ppt-VPN server did not respond" pop up and in the easy VPN log it states "Terminating on signal 15"

Any ideas why I am having trouble with this setup?

Thank You

Still won't connect. I'm on Lion and running EasyVPN. I also use a time capsule for my router.

this might be a dumb questions but does the computer running EasyVPN have to be on at all times to be able to watch streaming TV away from home? or did EasyVPN simply configure the router to allow for streaming away from home?

EasyVPN would need to be on at all times, running on your Mac, to be able to receive the call from your iPad when you're away from home and wanting to stream TV.

The other option is to user a router with VPN capability in its firmware instead.
