It's an apple extreme router. The router IP is the same as yours. 10.0.1.1. The private IP is 10.0.1.201 on the port mapping setup assistant.

Edit: I found the range and it was set at 1-200. So i set the starting range too 100 and used your setting for easyvpn for 180-185. Still no luck :(

Did you enable port forwarding on the apple extreme and forward the ports to the IP address of the Mac running EasyVPN? If you want, send me a PM with your IM and I can talk you through the setup.

I was able to get it working. Thanks for your instructions. Now I need to wait for TW to improve their service so I can actually get more than 5 secs of video stream. I would be very interested to know if anyone who has TW cable has been able to get this to work reliably.

I think your problem has more to do with low upload speed. Your upload is not fast enough to serve the video.

What program should I use to try to get this to work with windows 7?
I'm also wondering what to put instead of optimum.net if I'm on Time Warner.

Thank you coleman!! just did a screen share and he helped me fix the error that was preventing it from working. stupid error too. it works great now, and i dont have to get a sling box!! :D:D:D

What router do you have? Some routers have built in VPN server support. If not, you can try EasyVPN for windows. I found a link here:

http://www.comodo.com/home/email-security/vpn-access.php

To find the Time warner search domain name go to your router's setup page. It should have a summary page and tell you your public IP address and also the search domain. If you can't find it, PM me, I'll help you out.

I have a dlink 655 which doesn't support ddwrt or have a default vpn.
i know my public ip and the search domain seems to be socal.rr.com

I downloaded easyvpn and set it up but am having problems on where to input all this information, its sure not as easy as the mac version.

Also I'm not sure how to PM you or I would, I just made this account and am brand new to these forums, pm me and I'll gladly reply!

How To: Enable VPN to watch Cablevision LiveTV outside your home

Thank you for this great site. I'm new here and have a question about VPN.

If I enable VPN to get the cablevision app working will the ipad always use VPN for all data? Meaning will anything I do on the ipad be transferred through my home computer and network?

On the iPad you can enable and disable the VPN connection. It is not always on. If you setup EasyVPN leaving the Network Routing Definition section blank, all traffic will be routed through the VPN connection. If you add routing definitions, only IP traffic in the IP range you enter will route through VPN. Other data (email, web, ect.) will route through the local iPad internet connection.

I tried to PM you but it looks like you have it disabled. Click on User CP on the upper left, then click edit options, in the Private Messaging section click on enable Private messaging.

Itunes home sharing is just that to share itunes libarary over home wifi network. It will not work. You need to setup VPN

Apparently I cannot send or receive private messages until I post at least 5 times =/

Coleman,

I appreciate the time and effort you put in to get this document together. Now I need to figure out a workable solution in windows.

No problem. I have windows 7 installed on my MacBook Pro. In the weekend I'll boot to windows and figure out a window solution.

hows the quality compare to when you stream at home? Assuming vpn connection to the internet is slower

The Optimum app was working fine for a few days when I was at home on my wireless network. As of last night I started getting an error which reads "you must be connected to your home network and signed in to watch Live TV".
Also yesterday I was finally able to connect via VPN from a wifi hot spot but got the same error message. So now I have 2 issues.

I can't connect from every wifi hotspot I try, only certain ones

I now can't connect to LIVE TV either at home or over vpn when away from home.

Is anyone else experiencing this?

Mine is working fine at home and outside through VPN. Call cablevision customer support and let them know. Maybe something change on the backend.
