Found the deb file, JB'ed ipad and iphone, tested both with Optimum app 3.0.2 through home PPTP VPN (I was on a Verizon mifi to test outside home network). Everything works great. Thanks Coleman2010, Hantek, and everyone else on this forum who contributed.

Yes, it can be done for TW Cable. Same basic setup and installed tweaks for the iPad/iPhone.

Im having issues setting up the port forwarding, ipconfig on my Belkin router. I keep getting 629, 690, 720 and 800 errors. Im on the TWC app and ive already downloaded 3G Unrestrictor, Free TimeWarner, xCon. Need guidance. Thanks

Optimum v3.1 (4/4/2013 version) safe to upgrade

To let everyone know, Optimum 3.1 (Apr 4, 2013) version works fine for me outside the home (iPhone 4S, JB 6.1.2). Needs the following:

1. VPN successfully setup and connected (I'm using built-in PPTP)
2. Install xCon from Cydia
3. Search this forum to find and install DisableOptimumVPNDetection.deb
4. Install DisableOptimumVPNDetection.deb using Cydia iFile app or your favorite method (google install .deb file if you need further help)

Can you send me a PM?

Ive been tweaking stuff and im almost there.
i have my VPN on my laptop, and ive downloaded all of the needed Cydia files onto my iPod, and ive tried editing the .deb file Optimum to Time Warner Cable and TWC TV respectively. What am i doing wrong?

****Update: my 1723 comes up successful but my 47 port shows Reason: Connection refused

Did the update break the app? I am moving to a new area so I'll be switching providers from Cablevision to Time Warner. I'll have to apply the same patches to get Time Warner's app working.

How To: Enable VPN to watch Cablevision LiveTV outside your home

Now to enable VPN for Cablevision iPad app.

1. Enable port forwarding on your router to the internal IP address of the Mac running the VPN server software. Enable ports 1723 and 47.
2. Update/reboot the router.

3. Install EasyVPN. You can grab it here. It's $5 and allows a 30 day free trail. http://www.squashedsoftware.com/products-easyvpn.php
4. Click the L2TP/PPTP tab.
5. Click on enable PPTP.
6. Set your starting IP address high in the range of the DHCP IP addresses giving out by your router. For example. My router internally is 10.0.1.1 and it starts giving out IPs at 10.0.1.100. I set the VPN server to give out addresses 10.0.1.180-185. That will allow 5 connections.
7. Click on Allow 40-bit encyrption keys in addition to 128-bit.

8. Click on the Client Information tab.
9. For DNS server put in the internal IP address of your router.
10. Search Domains put in optimum.net

Image

11. Click on the User Tab.
12. Click the + sign and create a user name and password for the VPN account.

Image

13. Click save.
14. At the top click and turn on VPN service. If you click the logging tab it should say waiting for connections.
15. On the iPad click General/Network/VPN/Add VPN Configuration.
16. Name your connection
17. For server put in your public IP address. You can get your public IP by going to www.whatismyip.com.
18. For account put in the account name you created in EasyVPN.
19. Put in the password you set in EasyVPN.
20. Encryption Level set it to auto.
21. Turn on "Send All Traffic"
22. Click save.

Image

23. Try connecting. In the easy VPN logging window it will show the iPad connecting to the VPN server.

Fire up the cablevision app and enjoy Live TV over 3G or external WiFi. ::cool:

P.S. Props to kalex for pointing me in the right direction figuring this out!!! :)

Can this still be done today on the Optimum TV app. My router has a VPN server built in. Should it work? NOT JAILBROKEN

Optimum laptop app performance

Has anyone had success with eliminating buffering on a channel change using the Optimum laptop app over VPN?

I've had good improvement updating the app to v1.70 and updating TomatoUSB to 1.28.0000 MIPSR2-112 K26 USB VPN (w/ the improved encryption algorithm). But, I'm still seeing some blips on occasion.

has anyone had any success doing this for Verizon FIOS? I just tried setting it up and I was able to get a successful VPN connection on my ipad (over cellular), however, I lose internet connection when I do and still home sharing does not appear within the Music and Videos apps.

Any thoughts?

What are you using as the server? If you are losing the VPN connection then the streaming apps will not work. The first problem to resolve is why the VPN is dropping.

It's not that the VPN is dropping. I maintain a connection to both wi-fi as well as VPN. However, once connected to the VPN server, if I try and go to yahoo.com or any other site (or check e-mail) despite having a wi-fi connection, I lose my internet access of cellular. It's almost as if the VPN replaces any existing connection, rather than being bundled on top of the existing connection.

That is what VPN is supposed to do. Route all Internet traffic from the VPN server. It sounds like you don't have routing enabled properly. So it's not routing IP for you to browse the web from VPN. You should be able to.

is there anyway i can connect to optimum app on the same computer i am using EasyVPN with?

----------

tried a million times, even with iphone, not working :(

I have Optimum TV and the Optimum app installed on my iPhone & iPad mini.

My home wifi network is run over the ubiquituous Linksys WRT54G Router. I do know how to get into the admin program for that device.

Is there a idiot proof step by step guide for every aspect of setting up the Optimum app to function when I am not physically on my home network? I've read about the various elements to this exercise but I'm concerned about leaving something out or performing the tasks in the wrong sequence.

I don't have a PC or Mac to function as a VPN so I would like to create the VPN on the Lynksys Router. I understand I may need to accomplish that by first installing the DD-WRT program.

I've never done a jail break program on any of my devices so I need help with that AND installing the programs that keep Optimum from rejecting those programs.

yeah, is this supposed to be working still ? I finally got VPN set up on my macbook pro and iphone finally connect. Installed the .deb file as well as the 3G unrestricter but I keep getting stuck at the blue optimum screen when I open the app. Once I disable the VPN, it opens up fine. I'm on v 3.3. Any input ?
