Why not just jailbreak? Someone said it's a hassle, this seems like a bigger hassle to me.

This is for the times when there is no jailbreak...like now and the iPhone 4..once its working its always going to work.

On a side note I am trying to get this working thru the MacBook to the iPad as well using a PAC for the SOCKS server issue.

It is my understanding that if you jail break your iPhone you lose your developer's license.

Lies. Is there a way to tether to the ipad yet?

Should I believe you? It would be a simple matter for Xcode to check whether my iPhone is jail broken when it installs the developer certificate. That is why I have yet to jailbreak my iPhone. I do run my own custom apps on my iPhone and I don't want it "black listed"

Lots of my friends are jailbroken and make apps.

I don't have an iPad but the requirements for iProxy are just two:

3G (of course)

Ad-hoc connection between your MacBook and the iPad.

If both requirements are satisfied I don't see why iProxy would not work.

Of course someone has to recompile the code.

I mean to give my iPad internet. The iPad is jail broken.

Just done it, works like a charm. Hopefully the Dev might further the code and do something like mywi, that would be awesome.

It is ILLEGAL for actual code to be put out for use. I had a developer account and there is fine print that forces you not to. That's why you don't see more than 50 camera editing apps, because if EVERYONE knew how to do a simple change of color, it'd bog down the whole app store with those colors.

But hey, if people want to help me out with $10, I'd open a shared account for all of us to use. You just have to remember that there's a TOS and that you can screw it up for everyone else.

Wait a second. So what this guy has done, by releasing his code for iProxy, is illegal?

No, there is a ton of sample code out there...every developer book has all of the sample code included in it. Nothing wrong with this at all.

That's what I thought. Any ideas as to what Jessica Lares was talking about? My proposal was essentially for developers to write apps with no intention of submitting them to the app store. They would then simply distribute their own source code to other developers who could compile those apps and run them on their phones and allows others to do the same by way of their 100 app authorizations. Jessica seemed to be saying that that would be illegal, and it's not clear to me why.

MyWi requires root access, or at least access outside the regular app sandbox. So can't do that on non jailbroken devices. This'll have to do for now :)

Two ways to tether an iPad to the iPhone

Both require jail-breaking.

1) MyWi - is an app for a jailbroken iPhone which will turn the iPhone into a WiFi hotspot.

2) A developer called ibluever is creating an app for a jailbroken iPad which will allow it to connect to the bluetooth PAN tethering supported by the iPhone.

iProxy can be installed on a non-jailbroken iPhone - It works, but not with an iPad.

Do you know when this ibluever app will be out?

He has an app out which will tether the iPad to a DUN bluetooth.
According to his blog, the new app is being tested.

I'd guess a couple of weeks.

Of course, to use his app, you need an iPhone tariff which permits tethering.

UPDATE - he's just updated his blog to give a few more details.
The app is not yet out, and he does not seem to need people pestering him to complete it.

I just got it all setup. It works well. My friend has a developer account and sent it to me. It is a bit of a pain to get working but works great once you get it configured.

Any way I can still get this? I heard there was a program on itunes ap store called ihandylight that did it? Can anyone confirm where I could go about getting this? It would be greatly appreciated as it is the one thing missing from my iphone that is making me regret the swap over from my old nokia.

Please pm me if you could help.. it would be incredibly helpful for me and i would paypal you funds for the time :)

The ihandylight was basically the same thing just hidden as an Easter egg. Very nicely done. But alas it's already ben pulled. Wonder if the Dev will get paid since it was clearly against Apple policy to hide the feature.

are there going to be any additional programs that allow us to do this? Can somebody PM me help on the situation? I would be eternally grateful and would be wiling to paypal funds for the assistance.

Just got this working to the iPad as well with wireless tethering by adding a PAC file into the app. Now can tether both the Macbook and the iPad at the same time or just the iPad. My patience just went up while waiting for the jailbreak to come around.

Can you explain a little more?

Help me out here. Isn't this type of thing considered theft?
