I have been saving up for a phone for a while, took about 2 years, I also am having my bar mitzvah in a few weeks, but most of that money i have decided to save for collage (want to go to Waterloo or Stanford)
ok....Now, I defiantly have given this some thought, I can afford one of these on a contract. And I understand I defiantly don't NEED an iPhone, but it would be a convenient thing to have. I am a straight A student and am doing high school math even though I am in 8th grade (some of the math helped me do the calculations on how much this is going to cost me)
I also am a developer for apple, I launched a app on the app store back in April called Tiny Man, but then had to remove it because my file got corrupted, I am learning Corona now and will be launching a new app soon
Ask your parents exactly why they don't want to get you a smartphone. Is it because they don't want internet on your phone, or is it because it's expensive, or what have you.
That should give you some idea.
[/QUOTE]ok....
Let's clear up before someone jumps on you
It is extremely unlikely that you are a developer for Apple. You may be an iOS application developer, but you don't develop for Apple.
Tiny Man,
Developer: What's On Your Mind, Inc.

You had to remove it because your file got corrupted? Please clarify.
Corona, as in Corona SDK? Cool![]()
I also would like to thank everyone on here for the compliments and ideas (I will be using some of these)

A lot of thought into this? Hahaha did you just waste your summer vacation on ways to convince your parents on buying a phone. If they say no they say no. They no what's right for you! Listen to them. Jeez I remember growing up in the late 90's and early 00's where kids wanted to save money for a Michael Jordan's shoes or a PlayStation 1. Now all kids want is to save up for all a phone. Your a kid enjoy your life! Stop thinking you need an iPhone. Spend money on other things. I think people are forgetting what a phone is for! PHONE CALLS!!!
Actually, it's the phone part, not the type of phone or what it does besides calling, and I am paying for the contract, and it's only $25 a month which is about normal for any phone, so it's definitely not the cost either, the only reason they gave me is that they don't think I need one (which isnt entirely true anymore)

Ya, I am an iOS Developer, I guess I should have clarified that, and that's the app, it was published in mid-April and the file got courrupted so after giving it some thought, we had to take it down because we couldn't update it anymore.
And yes, I am learning Corona SDK
I code with my cousin, it's actually really cool because we are almost exactly alike
Rather surprised it took until Post 13 for him to mention his age.
I'm still waiting for the obligatory link to his set up.![]()
someone close the quote tag please
I assume your cousin holds or is a representative of the company?

Edit: Also stop thinking that the smartphone will cost the same as a basic phone. It doesn't, but go ahead keep dreaming.
No joke: if my kid made an app that was on the apple store and can afford his own iphone, I would not stand in his way. You obviously want to have a future working with tech, if you can afford your own gear, they should encourage it. This from a dad of three who is wary of giving kids too much stuff....
https://forums.macrumors.com/posts/13232883/, there you go, all of the PowerPC stuff was purchased used

It's his and his dads, I am part of the developer team
Actually, my dad does encourage me doing this, because I want to have a future in tech (apple), just sometimes it takes a while for him to decided to let me buy the stuff I want
ok.
I'm just not convinced, becuase I don't think you really need an iPhone, but more want it. At such young age, I really would heavily advise you invest that money into your future.
This is speaking from someone who went ahead and spent around $400-600 on an original iPhone when I was 15 - and I ended up with manageable, but large (if I hadn't been employed for the former few years before that, I'd have been in debt) bills.
Here's what long distant telephony caused:

I do wish you luck in the future.
Oh my god... how did you spend so much????
My parents insisted I call home everyday, whilst I was in a different country.
And if I didn't, I'd get continuously called, or texted.
