I recently bought a MacBook Pro, disappointed there's no remote included with the mac now... anyway, a few days later I was playing about on Apple.com and saw this http://www.apple.com/getamac/whichmac.html

Scroll down to the bottom, it says "On every mac"...Front Row + Apple Remote.

I rang up yesterday to ask about this, received my free remote this morning with apologies from Apple, they're gonna change the page, so do it quick!;)

Lucky you. If you notice the text is located next to an Imac. If you check the 'What's in the box' of each, you'll notice no mention of a remote in the MBPs' but it is mentioned in the Imacs'.

At least with the built in isight they mention which computers have it.

However, notice under Wireless it says "Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR offers fast wireless", so that is true. The NEW Mac Pro's come with Bluetooth.

You guys are ridiculous. You bought knowing it didn't come with it. So now you exploit an obvious oversight over $20. *shakes his head*

Or maybe $19. That's what wrong with the world today. Everyone wants something for free. Or at least the work for nothing give it to me attitude of most kids today. Cheap idjits. I hope everyone that exploits this has some sort of bad karma come their way in return.

+1

Once I got to the right person, she agreed to send one in order to keep me a happy customer.

Thanks for the heads up. :D

Bet you all the remotes turn up DOA :D That's karma baby!

Seriously though, this is a bit cheapskate of everyone, I mean come on, it's a $20 accessory, I rarely use mine and wouldn't miss it if it wasn't included, my girlfriend has never used hers (it's still in it's little plastic wrap :p), she didn't really see the point of having one with a laptop anyway...

Well, I think stealing is close, but more like exploiting an obvious error? Since Apple can still say no if they choose, (but likely with repercussions, and another thread full of whining by those who didn't get theirs).

I was going to call about it, but then I thought about it and how I knew when I bought my new macbook that there wouldn't be a remote. I felt bad and didn't call them. I've never had great luck getting anything from apple anyways.

wtb cheap remote :(

Cry me a freaking river. I suppose its more ok for Apple to charge that much for such a tiny and cheap device? It amazes me that people actually defend this nickel and diming crap that is becoming more common in companies today.

I'm not defending any nickel and diming. Just not supporting stealing and using some bs loophole. Now if a case or a splitter or some adapter from some third party for an iPod or iPhone goes for $10-30 then $19 for a remote is not outrageous. Could it be $15 or 14 or even $12.95, sure, but it isn't. Truth is if you upgraded from a previous machine, pair its remote with the new one. If you didn't and you want one, buy it.

That's up to them to charge how much they want to. They could charge $1900 dollars for it if they wanted to! (now if anyone would buy it would be a different story). But don't try to use that as justification for an unethical action.

Steve,

Just though I'd let you know of something that came to my attention when thinking about buying a MacBook Air! In the 'Which Mac are you?' section, I read that, amongst other things, every Mac comes with 'Font Row + Apple Remote' (http://www.apple.com/getamac/whichmac.html). But then on the MacBook Air section, it doesn't say anywhere that it ships with an Apple Remote? I just thought that maybe this was overlooked on the 'Which Mac are you?' section, or maybe it does come with an Apple Remote! Either way I just thought some might cause a fuss if they thought it came with a remote, when in fact it may not.

Keep up the great work,

Jack

That is a copy of the email I actually sent to Steve Jobs when I first heard about the remote not being shipped, I was looking out for them! Just to clear up these daft claims that this is 'stealing' hahaha stealing...I'm scared to answer the door now, god knows, it could be the cops!
Keep up the great work,

Jack

Whos the one being unethical? I always considered price gouging an unethical action myself, regardless of the product or the need of the product since it involves taking advantage of people. Fair and ethical usually play in the same sandbox, if something is unfair then it usually isnt very ethical.

The most effective way to protest what you feel is "price gouging" is to refuse to buy. If you feel a company's prices and policies are unethical, yet continue to purchase their products, then perhaps you are setting aside your own "ethics", and reacting the same way as those of us who are not put off by the prices/policies. Unethical would be forcing someone to purchase an item they feel is too expensive, and I can't think of single instance where this occurs in my nation. We all have a choice whether or not to purchase. Complaining about it indirectly seems futile?

this guy is kissin apples ass and trying to get a better freebie then a remote! oh look steve jobs I saved you alot of money please reward me,....thats what you are really doing...

haha I have to laugh reading through the last few posts. Here you have people stealing from someone and their justification is the old "nickel and diming" routine even though they're happy to pay for the Mac itself and remain updated (in some cases) with them every time a new one is released. Well I guess they're just convincing themselves their ethics are virtuous. LOL

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPod; U; CPU like Mac OS X; en) AppleWebKit/420.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.0 Mobile/3A110a Safari/419.3)

Does anyone remember if the last gem SR mabcook pro comes with a remote? Just curious. Concerning the situation, if people get a free remote when they might not deserve it, so what.

I'll probably only end up needing my remote for my MBP when I leave home (for iAlertU & Front row) so I decided to only have one. The one that came with my iMac works with both of my Macs. When I'm ready to leave I just grab it and go.

I really fail to see how it is stealing if it is sent to you by an Apple employee who has the authority to do so.

Also, looks like ht page is now fixed as it states "The full-screen Front Row media experience lets you browse the music, photos, and videos on your Mac as easily as you browse music on your iPod. And the Apple Remote, included with most new notebook and desktop Macs, lets you do your browsing from anywhere in the room."

No mate, it's not 'kissin apples ass' it's just me being a bit bored and wanting to give them a bit of a heads up, yeah to be honest I did think in the back of my mind, maybe I might get a reply and some thanks, but not a freebie. I've been a fan of Apple for about 9 years now, I bought countless products, had great service from them, but also been let down a couple of times. They way I see it, it's ups and downs, I was just disappointed there was no remote, after paying £1600 for a products I thought it was kind of unfair.

Giving others a heads up is also fair I think, helping others out in the same situation. If anyone doesn't like it, then don't like it. It's ridiculous to say it's 'stealing' or it's 'unethical'. It's as simple as this, a guy thought he got a remote with his flagship pro product and didn't receive one, then finds out it says he was meant to.

Honestly with all the money Apple is making these days how much would it cost to include that little plastic remote? That thing can't cost them more then a couple of dollars to make. My iMac came with one and I assume iMacs still come with them. It reminds me of the automobile companies. When the budget is getting a little tight they start to delete standard equipment and make it optional. I think the term that is used is "decontent."

I hope you're right, and it doesn't amount to much. However, if it does, we all know who will be paying up to fill in the losses.
