Puma just got 0wned.

For the record, I did this to my friend's MB today and she loves it. Her mom even thanked me. So, thanks!

DHart is a pimp as far as i'm concerned ya'll are acting like he bought an iPad on launch day then threw it on the ground and destroyed it. Bonafied MBP modifications are rare even if it ain't chyo cup of tea.

These computers are not sacred idols, they are simply tools, short-lived, replaceable, and rapidly depreciating with every passing day. Make 'em how you like 'em, use 'em up, pass 'em on and keep on truckin'. Just machines, folks, just machines. They are not sacred. Enjoy your machines.

Aaaaaand that's the thread, folks. Well said, sir, well said indeed!

Sounds like a bunch of fan boys to me.

I still have a guy I know who just can't believe that I moved from an iPhone to a Blackberry. Mind you a Blackberry with a BES behind it.

Some people just can't believe that you might have a better idea than a large company.

And no my friend most of these goobers here haven't worked with aluminum and probably don't know what a 3 sided chisel looks like let alone sand paper.

If it works for you, great! This is ***** America. You guys want to report him to Obama for thinking he has a better idea that works for him than the massed produced aluminum that was handed to him?

Pitty... Really... What a weak generation. x was and is Z.....

Bye bye resale value, I guarantee it. Even if you miraculously find someone who likes it, they definitely won't be willing to pay the PREMIUM you are expecting for it.

Doubtful. With the average intelligence level of someone buying a Mac off craigslist or eBay, they're not going to care.

Oh, and bye bye warranty.

Probably.
Mac users really kill me. Nowhere else on the planet have I seen so many people whine about sharp edges on everything. If it's not sharp edges on the Macbook Pro, it's sharp corners on the iPod nano. If it's not sharp corners on the iPod nano, it's sharp edges on the edge of the Cinema Displays.

That's probably because Apple's the only company that seems to feel the need for sharp edges. I don't find the edges particularly sharp, but the little corners where you lift up the screen are quite pointy. You probably don't have a Mac laptop (or probably even a Mac, for that matter), so I wouldn't expect you to know what you're talking about.

Typing using the proper method aside (which is a very legitimate piece of advice as your wrists should NEVER come in contact with the edges if typing properly), I use the trackpad exactly as shown in that linked flickr image. And you know what? It doesn't bother me one bit. It's not sharp.

If people used their cars in the proper fashion, there'd be no need for airbags. It's not unreasonable to expect that some people will rest their wrists on the edges of the machine, especially if it's sitting flat on a desk.

Some of you should really try putting down the latte and picking up a shovel once in a while, and grow a thicker skin. Hell, I'm a white collar worker who doesn't do any day labor and the edges don't bother me.

"Let your balls drop" as they say, quit whining, and grow a thicker skin.

Sharp edges, LMFAO.

Ah yes, the usual who-ha of making pointless eBoasts about manliness and how you have it harder than everyone else but still manage to get by. If only the edges were as sharp as your wit... then we'd really be in trouble.

...because I'm not interested in your opinion. I have no desire to please anyone but myself with this and that job has been wonderfully accomplished! :D

...and yet this thread has somehow managed to go on for 3 pages, yourself contributing quite a fair number of posts. Clearly you are interested in other people's opinions...as long as they're positive.
For the record, I presently have 11 Macs running in my home and studio. Everything from Mac Pros to MacBook Pros, to iMacs, to MacBooks, and a new MacMini as well. I use Macs anywhere from 8 to 14 hours a day in a variety of settings and have done so for many, many years. After decades of computer use, I am not new to typing nor to using computers... I have been using and modifying Macs exclusively since my first Macintosh 512, which I think I bought around 1984. I have had dozens of Macs over the decades.

Oh the irony... this is the same eBoasting I mentioned earlier. Nobody cares how many Macs you may or may not own or how many hours you may or may not spend on them. It's irrelevant. Comparing sizes is a fight you won't win.

For those who checked in to act out your immature impulses... back to your kindergarten, children!

And....

I'll bet the women just swoon over you and your wonderful attitude... (snip ) Oh I wish I could be just like you, but I guess I just can't let my "balls drop" quite like you do.:D

Ummm, and both these in the same post? It doesn't help your argument to 1) condemn folks with an "immature impulse" and then, 2) exhibit those very impulses. Back to kindergarten for YOU?

Back to kindergarten for YOU?
Oh yes, probably should go back to the womb... for stooping to Puma's level and quoting his language. ;) I'm imperfect el diablo. How about you?

Nobody cares how many Macs you may or may not own or how many hours you may or may not spend on them. It's irrelevant. Comparing sizes is a fight you won't win.

miles, I have no wish to enter or win a fight of sizes, by any means. You may have missed my point, which was merely that 1) I'm not a newbie to Macs and computer use who needs to be schooled on how to "type" or use a computer, and 2) this MacBook Pro that I soft-edged is not my entire world, my one, my only, my coveted, my devine Macintosh altar.... it's just one of a number of machines that I use as another tool to serve my purpose. Some may view their Mac as a devine altar (understandable, as they are indeed wonderful computers!) but I view my MacBook Pro as a tool that just needed some tweaks to serve me better, that's all.

Very interesting to see all the viewpoints... we've managed to gather them all, I suppose in just one thread! I never dreamed such a simple modification to my Mac would stir up so much fluff and bring out such hostility in people. There is obviously a lot of angst and unhappiness lurking just below the surface for a number of folks here... and this thread just stirred that up in them.

But really, all of this is just much ado over nothing. I just made a minor improvement to my MacBook Pro and it is now what I wanted it to be, that's all. Very simple. Nice improvement. That's all!

Everyone who got all hot and bothered over it, just wasted their time. But it's been really amusing and eye opening to see some of the characters who came out of the woodwork over this small thing.

For the folks that liked the mod and/or learned something positive from it... I'm glad of that... it's all that matters. :)

For the folks that are grumbling, antagonistic, plain rude, immature, or bent out a shape over it: sorry, I don't know what to do for you... suggest you keep searching for happiness elsewhere, perhaps.

Anyway, I'll go on enjoying my soft-edged Mac and everyone else will return to the happy, or sad, or pain of their private lives and that's that. Not much changed here. Fascinating world we live in.

This has been a FUN interchange and banter! Thank you.

Oh... Kristenn... your post made me smile... I'm glad your friend is happy with her new soft-edged Mac. And you are very welcome, glad this was helpful to you.

This has been one of the most entertaining threads ive read here for awhile. Kudos to everyone who participated! (no sarcasm; im serious)

Personally, i don't find the edges to be a real bother, but my father had the white macbook a couple of years ago and those plastic edges were actually a bit sharp. Do what you want to your stuff since it's YOUR stuff. I don't see why it bothers so many people. Nice writeup also.

Puma1552.... oh wow, I am so impressed by your "manliness"! I'll bet the women just swoon over you and your wonderful attitude. And your obvious dislike of "Mac users". Oh I wish I could be just like you, but I guess I just can't let my "balls drop" quite like you do. And I wouldn't want to be such an immature sad sack like you anyway. It's so clear to anyone who reads your post that you are truly one "class act" kind of guy... oh yeah! A real man! ;) Now, back to your kindergarten. :D

Man, that's one weak "put-down". You can't teach a person a lesson by responding even more childishly LOL.

People use laptops in all manner of ways and positions. And you may not realize it, but some people like to rest their hands on the surface of their laptops and there's nothing "WRONG" about it!

Telling people who dislike the sharp edge to "type properly" is rediculous.

But you have every right to say it. Your "contribution" hasn't helped me any, but thanks for trying to be helpful. Do you have anything else to contribute?

As for the black residue... that is not something for most people to worry about. Like I've said, in a couple of weeks usage, perhaps seven hours a day of usage, I have no black residue. How do you explain that?

Typing with your hands resting contributes to injury, there is a right way of typing. Get a clue.

You didn't like that otispondscum? Oh well!

Just move along buddy. We've wasted enough bandwidth on trash in this thread already.

LoL, I love how your ego can't let a single comment slide.
Just move along buddy, rofl, you've wasted enough bandwidth defensively replying to ever comment on this thread that disagrees with you.
Insecure much?

I guess I just take too much pleasure from replying to idiots when they are best ignored. Enough time spent taking out the trash. ;)

Now... back to topic... thanks to Andrew for this great link for folks who dislike the sharp edges... it's a good read and his tool recommendations are more specific than mine.

http://onemansblog.com/2010/03/11/video-rant-taking-the-sharp-edge-off-the-macbook-pro/

Lol, there you go again.
The funny thing is how clearly your ego can't take it, to the point that you're responding, in a very insecure manner lol, to complete strangers and resorting to name calling because you've got nothing else to say.
Sad, really.

otispondscum... thanks for you contributions to this thread. I'm sure those interested in the topic appreciate what you've added. ;) It's obvious that you take pleasure in trying to antagonize people. You are the sad one.

lol, hey man, in terms of what you're implying, takes two to tango.
Funny thing is, I like your work on the Macbook edges, I hate the sharp edges too, but your inability to deal with anyone's opinion other than your own was too distracting.
You're just way too insecure I guess.

But other than that, great work on those mbp edges! lol :D

In response to your edit - lol I'm just stating obvious facts dude, if you think that's antagonizing with intent, either you're the most insecure guy I've ever come across or you're weakly trying to get some Moderator's attention.
Pretty pathetic...

I agree that it's often best to just ignore a certain segment of posters. I just couldn't resist with those who are clearly jerks and those whose comments were wrong. And part of me enjoys the banter, I guess.

You are right in that my replying to them distracted even more from the topic at hand. But it's not a big deal, really. This has all been fun! :) I had no idea my modification would stir up so much activity. It's all good. Enjoy your day. It's beautiful out, I'm going to jump on the Harley and ride!

Well you got me there, because I have no Harley. :(

I dont get all the "OMG you did that your or Macbook Pro!" responses.

He made his computer more comfortable to use. A notebook is a tool, not just a shiny object. If it bothered me, I would do it as well.

As for resale...most intelligent and rational people use their laptops for 3.5-4 years and then buy a new one.

This may be a pointless endeavor at this stage of the thread, but I'd like more opinions on what this will do to the warranty. Obviously it shouldn't negatively affect the computer but will Apple say otherwise.

LOL did I strike a nerve? You posted something that looks like ass, deal with the criticisms instead of just looking for people to give you e-blowjobs. It looks terrible. Very terrible. Don't like my opinion? Too bad. I still say grow a thicker skin. The only person here needing to go back to kindergarten is you, dude.

Puma just got 0wned.

LOL hardly.

You probably don't have a Mac laptop (or probably even a Mac, for that matter), so I wouldn't expect you to know what you're talking about.

Oh man are you ever reaching. Typing this on a 15" unibody right now. There's blood all over the keyboard from the sharp edges and pointy place where I opened the screen! I also had a Macbook Air for a couple years, but I sold it because when it was closed the edge was so sharp it was like a big knife!

As has been mentioned in every thread like this, anyone with a clue on how to type won't have this problem. I ask each and every one that says your wrists get cut by the edges to take a picture with your wrists resting on it, and we will see just how improper your typing methods are. Your comparison here is just absolutely asinine.

Yep, as I said I'm a white collar worker, I've got it so hard

Anyway this is retarded, and I stand by my original statement--only Mac users whine so much about sharp edges while sipping a double mocha latte with chocolate sprinkles while pretending to look important at Starbucks. Like I said, stop being so weak--I'n not sure how some people here would have ever survived 100 or 150 years ago tbh.

OP if you like it, I don't care, great, water under the bridge a this point, but I stated my opinion and if you don't like it or didn't expect to hear negative things about taking a file to your computer, you either shouldn't have posted it or are really naive. You have to be able to take criticisms.

But yeah, your warranty is gone. Hope you didn't waste money on AppleCare too for your own good, because if you did you may as well call them up now and tell them the computer's been physically damaged so you can maximize the amount of the AppleCare refund.
