does iCloud work with the iPhone 3G? I gave my old 3G to a friend a while back. I see a lot of old apps appearing in the updates on my iPhone 4 now. Is this function available on the 3G? I'd rather my friend not see and have access to every little thing I've ever downloaded.

If they are using a different ID than you, then regardless that it used to be your phone, I don't think they could see your purchases.

my ID was signed in, but they don't know the password. I think they were just using it as an iPod.

Buy a $500 iTunes card and go on a $.99 spending spree, hopefully the significant other won't notice it in all the flotsam.

1. allow folks to share their Apple ID
2. wait
3. show previous purchases
4. profit

I'm not a big fan of this, simply for the deleted free apps annoyance. I've only paid for three apps and the other several hundred have been free, many of which are not on any device or my computer anymore.

If it's free, why does it need to be in the list? We can download it again for free if we want. Plus, why do I need to see Words with Friends Free now that I have the full version? It makes no sense. I have no apps or music I'm worried about hiding. It's just an ease of use problem and one I think Apple would want to fix if they want to make everyone think iCloud is so wonderful.

We're not asking Apple to delete it from their records, just give us the OPTION to delete it from ours.

If someone is going to hold you responsible for things you downloaded when you were 15 then they aren't worth your time.

Who gives a crap? Seriously, if you're worried about it, then have the other person use their own apple id.

If they insist on browsing through your past purchases... well... sucks to be you. Because ultimiately THAT is the problem everyone seems to be having here. A few have complained about the size of their downloads, but 90% of the issues are "oh i can't let other people see what i downloaded."

Yea, that means you want to hide something. Don't try to spin it otherwise. I'm not on a high horse, i just don't care. I think people need to own up to things and realize that it's a simple explanation and you shouldn't need Dr. Phil over some apps you downloaded on the app store.

You completely ignored the other issue I, and many others, raised over how many apps you will have downloaded over time.

As for your moral high horse (yes, I do still think you are on it), the purchases were MY purchases. Not someone else's. Apple is essentially changing the rules in the middle of the game by all of a sudden saying "oh by the way, people can now see everything you purchased. Thank you for sharing your items with them."

I have not heard a single good argument for why you shouldn't be able to delete purchases from your past history, so let me pose the question to you differently.

If not, then why are you complaining that someone else would like additional functionality? If you aren't going to use it, then just don't use it. Live and let live.

I'm just finding it hard to believe we can't choose which apps go to iCloud and which ones stay put on your machine running iTunes.

NOT everyone can see it. They have to be logged in on your appleid on a device or itunes to see what you purchased.

I cannot see what you downloaded. So if you want that kept private don't share your appleid. Simple.

Past purchases being deleted isn't the thing here. It's based on Receipts i'm sure. They have an order number and that order number is how the items are added to the list. Deleted that would mean the order number would have to be removed which isn't what should be done.

what people, you mean people "YOU" shared "YOUR" apple id with?

Hi, so uh like a year a ago I downloaded an app from the app store my wife wouldn't approve of me seeing (she is very jelous). I only downloaded on my phone and deleted months ago. However today with the upgrade to the app store I can see it when I check the "apps not on this ipad" list and same on my iphone. its only a matter of time before she eventually sees it on her phone as well, so is there anyway to get rid of this?

ORRRRRR You could bring it to her attention and ask her why SHE downloaded it... Best defense is a great offense!

i just want to be able to filter out the free and lite versions as other's have said i try a lot of lite version before buying and if it is free then why is it in this list i can just download it again. if it's a paid app i dont mind it beign on the list but i keep a full backup of the apps i want on my macbook pro and would like a shorter more relevant list to what i want maybe they will allow us to tweak it.

what people, you mean people "YOU" shared "YOUR" apple id with?

I have not shared my Apple ID with anyone. I'm making the argument on behalf of those who have used Apple's own instructions for allowing them to share their purchases with others in their household. That's the purchase itself, not a readily available history of everything I have downloaded both before and after I shared my ID with them.

If I wanted to "clean up" my apps, music, movies, whatever, with someone before sharing my account with them, that is no longer possible, because everything you have ever downloaded is right there.

Furthermore, since you blatantly ignored my question the first time, I will pose it again.

If Apple had released iCloud with the ability to remove past purchases from the list, would you have complained about that?

Not from Apple's back end purchase history, because I understand the importance of them keeping a purchase record. But from what is displayed on the end user's purchase history.

Like most families we share an Applie ID, Apple designed it this way. If my wife and I purchase 1001 sex positions, karma sutra and other apps for our own use our 11 year old daughter can now see those purchases. Parental controls only gray it out so it can't be downloaded. I really don't want her seeing that type of stuff. So yes, there are legitament uses for removing purchase history.

Also, as others have mentioned, from a usability standpoint it would be great to remove the clutter. I have many Lite apps that I eventually purchased the Full versions of. I don't want both to show up. I also purchased the Apple iPhone 4 case program app to order my free bumper after the launch. I'll never download that app again. So lets clean it up and keep it organinized.

There are many reasons to have this functionality, no reasons not too. I'm sure it will come eventualy, but Apple is more concerned with launching iCloud and adding finishing touches and enhancments later.

exactly, the only arguement would be if their wasnt a parental control, now people want to hide stuff from their spouces, no wonder the divorce rate is skyrocketing

Actually, you're wrong. The divorce rate has been steadily decreasing since the mid 1980's and only slightly increased last year. Try again.

it would be extra coding, so the developer would have to put in more time and energy for a feature that isnt that big of a deal

a solid point is though, simply not having the ability to download grayed out while the app is still visible is hardly a parental control. It's like pulling the beard off Santa at the mall and having to explain your way out of it. The child now KNOWS something is going on and expects an explanation.

We should ALL be able to choose which apps are shared over the cloud from our main computer that we sync with. For a lot of reasons. The parental control aspect is the best one, obviously. Then there is privacy issues as well as the mentioned issue of having to sift through the 300 lite apps you downloaded 3 years ago that you no longer have any use for (free bumper app is a prime example).

gks will you give it a rest. A dozen people have told you that they feel uncomfortable with not being able to delete apps from their app list. You have no right to tell the what to think or how to feel. It's alright if that's your view, but that's YOUR view, and everyone else is entitled to theirs.

At the end of the day, The Customer is King. Making the list editable does not hurt anyone, but it will make many people happy. The Customer is King. Apple should do the right thing!

is there an option to list them in alphabetical order? that might help
