I just thought of another solid example... I used to use a dating app before I met my current girlfriend. We didn't meet via the app. But if she was playing with my phone one day and saw that she would more than likely assume the worst. Now that I'm in a relationship and have been for a long time I haven't used that app in over a year. It's been off my phone for a long time, but now it's still going to pop up in the app store on the phone. Not good for people who have jealous significant others.

jealous people are not good period, why would she need an app evidence that you dated other people at some point in your life, i would think still havint the app installed could cause a question but in "history"?

Haha just been through mine, it's full of crazy free lite apps i thought were good and got rid of. So basically it's a list full of crap.

Some people just don't have their jealousy in check. I know some totally rational people that have been known to snap if their spouse so much as looks at someone the wrong way. I'm not defending the behavior, but it's more than common. A lot of people get jealous over nothing.

Anyway I'm not worried about my particular situation really, but I just meant in general- now that your entire purchase history pops up it could cause problems for a lot of people. It's not just people with shared Apple IDs but if you so much as let a friend use your phone to make a call, etc, that list is only a few taps away.

The only thing worse than us not being able to choose what goes to the cloud and what doesn't is the fact that Apple just flipped a switch and turned this on without giving us the option to opt out.

it would be extra coding, so the developer would have to put in more time and energy for a feature that isnt that big of a deal

If such a large percentage of people just in this thread have taken issue with it, maybe it is "that big of a deal". Just because you yourself wouldn't use it, doesn't mean that nobody at all would.

If you referred back to my original question, I asked "if it had been introduced with this feature" not "if it will now take additional resources, time, and delay the iOS5 launch."

I would bet Apple already has the day marked down that they plan to release iOS5, and they have built in plenty of wiggle room for fixing issues and addressing customer concerns along the way.

I'm fairly confident that this will be remedied by the time iOS5 launches.

That would put 1001 sex positions right up at the top.

hahahaha. I don't think there is an option (a lack of options seems to be the whole issue here) but yeah even if there was, I think there are probably some apps that begin with every letter that aren't child friendly.

Probably. Just thought it was funny that it was suggested right after an adult app was mentioned that started with numerals.

I would also like the ability to delete some of those apps. I've got apps on that list that aren't even supported anymore. (Playmesh, may you burn in Hell!!) And of course, a ton of lite apps that I ended up purchasing.

I'm just looking to get rid of some of the clutter, so that if/when I am looking for an app that's not on my phone, I'm not scrolling for days.

Like most families we share an Applie ID, Apple designed it this way. If my wife and I purchase 1001 sex positions, karma sutra and other apps for our own use our 11 year old daughter can now see those purchases. Parental controls only gray it out so it can't be downloaded. I really don't want her seeing that type of stuff. So yes, there are legitament uses for removing purchase history.

Or for those of us whose kids are older and aren't using parental controls...and want to save them from the emotional scarring of thinking about their parents...you know... *eeewww!!!*

I'm not sure why there is any argument here. I'm not hiding anything from anyone that shares my ID, but I don't want to scroll through a bunch of crap that I no longer wanted.

The way I understand it, this was supposed to be a convenient way to re-download apps that you removed from your device. It's not convenient at all to scroll through a hundred or two hundred apps that I no longer want - whether it's because I later bought the full version of a lite app or any other reason.

Is it really a big deal if this feature is ADDED to the phone? Don't want to use it, then don't.

I share similar concerns about the clutter aspect of the list of purchased apps. I haven't downloaded any apps of which I'm embarrassed, but there are several free versions of apps which I have downloaded that I have since purchased the full version, and now I see both. I have the Bumper Program App still on there. I have one called Stanza that I got rid of when iBooks came around. I had the old free level app that I now have in a pack of handyman tools app... etc, etc.

Privacy issue aside- the clutter is bothersome. Especially when there is a lot of redundancy on the list.

To those with the privacy concerns- I understand, even if I can't relate due to my spotless download record. I know there are things on the internet I've downloaded (and hid my trail) that I wouldn't want anyone else knowing about.

Scream loud and often and Apple will listen.

Add me to the cluttered side.
My 8 year old got a Touch for her birthday and she uses my iTunes account.
She sees the app store as an all you can eat buffet of free games.
She would play them for a few minutes then go onto the next one.
It never used to be an issue but when I go into my purchases, there are pages and pages of talking this app, and cute cat that app.
I would love to be able to selectively delete any app I wish.
If it means I would have to pay for it again, so be it.

omg, this reply is so *ing epic.

You should get yourself a new girl if her finding you match.com app is gonna destroy her, that's mental.....

Stop judging people for Apples incompetence! I can hide documents, foto's, music, purchased software and everything i want! But I can't hide apps?

I want to hide them away and that's my choice, i don't need some, from my point of view a very arrogant person judging others!

LOL this reminds me of a thread on the Netflix Community forums. A parent was asking if they could delete the viewing history for streaming content. I guess the viewing history from one streaming device it shows up front and center on every device on that account. They didn't want to explain why mommy and daddy were watching naughty movies :)

Could Apple not add a simple slider to delete or in this case slide to hide? For example in the purchases section of the app store, all one would have to do is slide left to right app in the list, revealing a button which allows the app to be hidden from the purchases list. This would allow people to clear up clutter when viewing on their phones, while still maintaining the purchases linked to the account in Apples records. Just a thought

Seriously....

This is ridiculous! Privacy is a huge concern, and no one...I mean no one wants to have to buy Angry Birds for their kids and themselves. As steve Jobs said in the keynote. The apps in the Mac app store are available for all your macs, Lion included. So if that's the rules, then a family unit should not have to double/triple buy to preserve privacy. Everyone has their own opinions about honesty, and what's ok for their kids to see.

Bottom line. An app store account needs to have multiple logins associated with it, allowing for separate family members to purchase what they want, without the prying eyes of kids, or a jealous spouse.

Perfect example. My son just downloaded DNA dating free because he though it was a Pacman game. (look at the icon). Now if my wife finds that, I'm gonna have to answer for it, although it's not too big of a deal...just a hassle.

Everywhere you go, there's a big concern for privacy - medical record privacy, photo privacy, gps location privacy, etc. This is no different.
