Maybe if I just run out and adopt a small child I won't have to explain any of this to my girlfriend...

Ok, well got a reply from apple, and there is no way of deleting or organizing that list. Sooo, since from what most bloggers are saying about how in iOS 5 you can have a different user id from the purchasing id, I think I will take this time to go ahead and set her up with her own id for now, and later with iOS 5 I can relink them and hopefully then there will either be a way to edit that list or I have purchased enough apps to really burry those apps.

LOL this reminds me of a thread on the Netflix Community forums. A parent was asking if they could delete the viewing history for streaming content. I guess the viewing history from one streaming device it shows up front and center on every device on that account. They didn't want to explain why mommy and daddy were watching naughty movies :)

Ha, that's funny. I saw from the first time I watched a movie on there that it was immediately shown front and center, so I knew what I can watch and not so as it doesn't show up there. However this would be like if Netflix had never shown your previously viewed list then suddenly updated their system and started showing it.

I contacted support the other night, and this is the reply I got:

Hi, this is Raghunath from the iTunes store support team. I understand that you would like to know how to remove certain applications from showing up in your purchases pane. I know you must be eager to get this taken care of and I am happy to help you with this.

I did a little research in to this and I'm sorry but at this point of time it is not possible to remove an application from purchase history.

Please know that at any given time, you can have up to ten devices set up for Automatic Downloads and downloading of past purchases. Those ten devices may be either iOS devices or computers, as long as no more than five of them are computers. To use the new Automatic Downloads feature in iTunes, you'll need iTunes 10.3 and iOS 4.3.3 or later. iPhone 4 (CDMA Model) is not supported.

If a device is not used to receive a download for 6 months, it will automatically be removed from its corresponding slot. Once a year, you may manually remove your devices from their slots and associate new devices to those slots, enabling them for Automatic Downloads or downloading past purchases.

For more information about managing devices for Automatic Downloads, check out these articles:

Then it just gave support websites.

Provide feedback to Apple. I used the iTunes, iPod Touch, iPhone, and iPad link from this link http://www.apple.com/feedback/

This is the equivalent of a web browser lacking a "remove history" feature. The history is still stored somewhere (say, on your ISP's server or can be undeleted with the proper tools), but its not initially viewable locally without a decent amount of effort.

hi, so uh like a year a ago i downloaded an app from the app store my wife wouldn't approve of me seeing (she is very jelous). I only downloaded on my phone and deleted months ago. However today with the upgrade to the app store i can see it when i check the "apps not on this ipad" list and same on my iphone. Its only a matter of time before she eventually sees it on her phone as well, so is there anyway to get rid of this?

lmao

If I set up a separate Apple ID for my kid's iPod and use Home Sharing to sync purchased apps with, will all the apps from the main Apple ID, in this case my wife's, be visible on the other Home Sharing enabled devices?

Or will your purchase history be tied only to your ID?

I'd like to add my voice to this - I disapprove of this measure entirely, and want the option to remove items from the list.
*
Also, I thought it was worth starting a petition over this. Please add your support if you think Apple's unilateral action here is a threat to your privacy.

can you explain how its a threat to anyones privacy? you realize you have to sign in to your apple id to view this

yea this is in no way a threat to privacy because if you were that concerned about privacy you would not share your id. I understand how some people do not want to repurchase apps or content and this can be annoying.

However the only real issue i seem to see is the lack of options, basically removing a lite version of a purchased app or removing free apps. Personally i wish they took more of the approach as android does where in your market it shows every app you have purchased and gives you the option to reinstall but not free apps as they figure they are free and will not cost you anything to re download.

So is this inconvenient for some people yes, and annoying to some personally i just want to remove lite apps or free altogether and this could be a great way to rediscover an old app that you forgot about or dont have stored on your computer.

But seriously this is not a privacy issue apple is not posting your lists on itunes. complain about the inconvenience or the annoyance in being an unorganizeable list but it is in no way a privacy issue!

I think there are quite a few use cases for people wanting to remove a app from the purchase history.

They almost need to keep a purchase history which you can get to by going to your account in iTunes / the web site like you used or and another list of your apps.

Specially with so many lite apps now. If you click on the download all apps you end up with loads of duplicates if you have tried then out when there is no reason you would want the lite app if you have then gone on to buy the app.

Hahhaha this discussion is hilarious. I'll agree that there should be a way to edit purchase history but, even if they don't make it possible, it's not a big deal at all.

Some of you people are actually embarrassed by what apps you've downloaded in the past? What? Who cares?

You shouldn't be sharing Apple ID's anyway.

This strikes me like Amazon's purchase history. Every book (or anything else you buy) is noted forever in your purchase history. No outrage at Amazon?

Everyone is so worried about what they purchased in the passed and they don't want their child / spouse to see it on their devices. What about the issue where your child randomly downloads apps on their device and it automagically starts loading those apps your device, cluttering your workspace?

There are simple ways to help alleviate the issue....

1 - Get seperate apple ID's for everybody in your family. There is no reason why your child should be using your Apple ID to play on their ipod touch, or whatever.

2 - Disable the auto-autosyncing feature on all your devices, that way you are back to where you were before the iCloud was activated. You don't have to worry about any apps that someone in your family purchased appearing on your device

If such a large percentage of people just in this thread have taken issue with it, maybe it is "that big of a deal". Just because you yourself wouldn't use it, doesn't mean that nobody at all would.

you realise that the percentage of people in this thread compared to all iOS macrumors members here is probably a low percentage and then compare that to the number of people in the world on iOS, the people complaining on here are a drop in a pond.

exactly! i'd never share my apple ID at all.

perfect solutions here! sharing your Apple ID is your own problem, not Apples.

Ok, jet an update for anyone that's curious. Went ahead and set up a different apple id for her phone and everything seems to be working fine. Our two laptops still use the same homeshare id, so if our two libriaries remain in sync that way and she still has access to all our current apps and music, haven't tried video but I assume that should work as well. The only downside is each app still has my id associated with it, so to update she still needs to enter my password for those apps and in app purchases don't work because it asks for her password but mine is still associated with those apps, but other than that it's working fine.

Yes yes you can take steps to alleviate the issue, but what's the harm in offering the option to delete? As a previous poster said, Apple can keep the full history if they want, I don't care, they have a right to; but I'd rather I could have the option to delete and unclutter my own local devices!

Its not a major problem, but a minor tweak would be handy in this case.
If this doesn't apply to you, maybe it's best if you simply observed, and didn't voice dissent on other people's views and opinions.

And, RE; new Apple ID, call it laziness, but I really cannot be bothered to set a new one up for this.

this is a privacy issue!

I have the right to not want to have some app that I tested out of curiosity remain on my app history 20 years from now on my ID's account.

Just because :apple: have the ability to track all of that it doesn't mean we want it.

If I've deleted them, they aren't installed on any device and I have no intention of using it again, so it's silly to have a list with 2000 apps I will never use.
Some apps was fun for about 60 seconds and then I deleted them, for ever!

So basically i don't want a full history or a list full of crap on my ID's account.
:apple: has to fix this, give us the ability to track and clean the history list.
They can keep the info in their servers, I don't care, but in my account and devices i decide which info i want.

You have the "right"???? Where the F#&$ do you get off deciding what rights you have? You bought it or agreed to the download agreement when you loaded it the first time! You wouldn't know your rights if they smacked you in the face. If you don't like it get a new Apple id or leave and switch to the zune or something! I am guessing you downloaded the Gay Meet Up app or soemthing you need to hide. Get over it dude. If you are that afraid for your privacy you shouldn't be sharing your apple id with anyone anyway!

Freaking crybabies on here demanding their rights! How laughable!

I don't have nothing to hide, It's silly having a list of 2000 apps on my history ID's, Apps I will never use again.

And yes we have rights, if you or :apple: like it or not!

Jokes aside, I agree with this feature being removed. (the list view of purchased apps).

What I wouldn't mind however is putting a cloud icon or purchased text next to the application screen.

This is the screen I am talking about:
iphone_button.png

Ideally I would like to turn the feature off given the choice.

Does anyone have apps that they did not download/try/check show up on their purchased list? I have my own apple id, I do not share it with anyone... but I have 10s of apps in that list that I did not download at all... Most of which are silly apps... My itunes purchase history on my mac shows the correct list of purchased/downloaded apps and it does not match the one on iphone...

Anyone have any idea?
