the developer of the exceptional 'springtomize' has just released this:
stiflestand; basically, does all the work for you.

so a simple, easy way to hide the newsstand icon in a folder, without any work.

what more could one ask for? (outside of an untethered ios6 jailbreak...)

I just came here looking for a solution. iPhone 5, and Stiflestand says "Done!" but it doesn't actually work on my phone.

I just tried it on my 4S, and it didn't work with that either. Perhaps it has something to do with my Retina MacBook Pro... I'm going to try it on a different MacBook.

EDIT: Nope, it doesn't work using my 13" MacBook either. 4S and 5, both say "Done" and it doesn't work for me.

that...sucks. haven't tried it, since i'd already solved this problem by the method posted earlier.

anyone else try this? would be good to know if it actually works... :(

Didnt work for me either.

EDIT: I rebooted my iPhone 5 and tried again...this time it worked.

At first I thought this was that old trick that people figured out way back when iOS 5 came out. But this is new (at least to me). I haven't been able to pull off that old "ninja" trick since 5.1.1 came out.

Have you tried this process yet?

I did the same. Rebooted both the mac, and the iPhone. No luck yet. :(

EDIT: OK, I got it to work on both the 5 and 4S. I plugged in the phone to the computer, rebooted the phone, and while it was rebooting I launched the Stiflestand app. The app will see you phone BEFORE it boots up completely, and the key for me was AS SOON as the phone booted into it's lock screen, I hit the button on the Stiflestand app. For what ever reason, It would only work if I acted quickly.

iOS should show Newsstand if any only if there's at least one Newsstand app installed. Ditto for Game Center and Passbook.

Folks can use App Store to discover Newsstand apps. No reason for a blank Newsstand folder.

Yes! Just finished hiding the Newsstand icon on my iPad2 and iP5.

It didn't work initially on my iPad2. However, after a few attempts, it worked. I did need to restart my iP5.

apple really sucks sometimes (as much as i love my macbook pro and iPhone!).
we should be able to delete apps we don't want, with the option to install them from the app store IF we want them later. like newsstand, stocks, game center...etc.

i hate that apple wants every iphone to look the same, be the same....which is why i've customized the hell out of my mac, and why i anxiously await a JB for ios6!)

Here are a couple of pics of my iP5.

Just wondering how he made it works without a jailbreak ?

btw I don't get all the complaints about the news stand not being as a normal icon but as a folder.
Apple sells products and also services like News papers and magazines from the newsstand. it also needs to be a folder just to help you view all your stuff.

I don't even use it but I think its a good thing for some people. let them have it and let the news papers earn some more money.

there's a method posted early in this thread to hide the icon...so no jailbreak needed. but...why can't we remove it? it's fine if someone wants to use it, if not...ridiculous that it' supposed to sit on a homescreen for no reason.

Wow, this must really bug people.....

This has already been posted so many times on this forum.

Please, for the LOVE OF ALL THAT IS GOOD, do a search before you post.

/sarcasm

And the rethreading doesn't bug me, mistakes bug me. There were already TWO threads.

How do I delete "Newsstand"?

And for now, why can't I put it in the 'crapapp' folder for unused apps?

Use StifleStand (works on any device, no jailbreak needed)

EDIT:
Someone beat me to it
