It's more like beside or under your desk.
I doubt anyone would actually put it on top of their desk.

I didn't say that AR viewing is a gimmick. I'm talking about Apple using AR to show you how a shiny new Mac Pro will look on your desk. That's the advertising gimmick. If that tempts me to buy a Mac Pro, then the same advertising technique might tempt me to buy an iMac.
What did you think it would cost?
Trypophobia? Can the holes be covered? It really gives me the extreme creeps for some reason
I, too, am wondering storage. I understand why (internal) magnetic storage had to go: it’s bulky and slow. But if there aren’t several M.2 or similar storage slots I’m really surprised, as that seems to be the most common form-factor for internal SSDs (I could be wrong).
I’m guessing Apple expects you to use the PCIe slots for storage, which is fine I guess, but what are the options available? Are there adapters if you want to buy or already have M.2 cards?
What did the Trash Can Mac Pro use?
No it wouldn’t.
[doublepost=1559737757][/doublepost]If you want to scrounge together parts to build a Frankenstein machine like it’s a Fallout game go right ahead and do so. Just don’t expect support from Apple. They build machines for everyone but you and have always done so. Stop asking for things that will never happen.
I don’t need a display and what I want is a Mac Pro that isn’t insanely expensive. The last 3 Mac Pro’s have all cost around 3-4K for the base model. Even with inflation taken into account there’s a huge Apple mark up on this thing and the base model specs are pretty laughable. Don’t believe me? Watch what the experts say
The fans can be programmed to reverse direction for 5-20 seconds, once every 1-4 hours, thereby helping to minimize the accumulation of airborne particles (™)The previous cheese grater had this really annoying bit near the front of the case that was impossible to clean and accumulated fluff balls. No amount of compressed air could blow it clear.
With (apparently) no filters I hope this doesn’t suffer from the same.
No they do not need to do any of that. You are not looking for a Mac, you are looking for a PC. The world does not revolve around you. They need to build a mid range tower and display for those who don’t want an all in one. I’d want an 8 Core i9, 16GB RAM minimum as a starting point, 1TB SSD and a decent graphics card priced at around £2000. All of which should be standard parts, non proprietary and be able to be purchased in any computer shop in the world. The user should be able to just pop out a component and plug the new one in.
The Mac Mini is not that machine. It compromises on the graphics and I wouldn’t want to have an eGPU sat on the desk looking unsightly, plus the added £500+ cost on top of the Mac itself. It’s also an extremely closed system with no upgradeability outside of Apple stores.

He’s more of an expert than 99% of people. Also, if you knew what you were talking about you’d know he actually offered to pay for the repair but Apple refused.LMAO! Linus is FAR from being an expert!
This is the same guy who’s staff broke an iMac Pro’s screen admittedly on YouTube and then whines that Apple should fix it under warranty.
Linus at best is a school yard whiner with the luck of having a few toys and wieners that follow his every vlog entry.
Spitting specs and championing Windows and PCs like so many thousands of other dweebs does NOT make anyone an expert. I bet he still uses drag n drop / copy past for several files/folders to another PC vs Robocopy (same mistake shown stealing secrets in the movie Snowden) lol.
No. Linus is no expert at all. I’ve seen his whining diatribes and their comical at best.
[doublepost=1560066863][/doublepost]$1000 for a damn monitor stand ... come on Apple that’s just insulting to your buyers! This is the kind of stuff someone at Apple should be fired for!
He offered to pay for a repair that Apple don't perform after he deliberately destroyed his iMac, and then whined about it. He is an expert douche indeed. He’s more of an expert than 99% of people. He took it apart and dropped the screen. That's on him.If only there was a video that showed him ACCIDENTALLY breaking the iMac... oh wait, there is! Get your facts straight![]()
And for years Apple refused to touch a product that had been repaired by a third party because they’re greedy and want to lock customers in. They’ve since reversed that policy. He took it apart and dropped the screen. That's on him.
Apple reserves the right to refuse service on gear that has been modified by the user, or if there are signs of tampering with the equipment. This is an accountability issue, and sometimes a safety matter for the repair crew.
After reading up some more I think Apple chose to go the soldered storage route due to the T2 security chips that are on new macs which encrypts the drives. Guess it would be less efficient with all users using different brands of SSD.
But their GPU’s still look proprietary and non standard.
The trash can Pro storage was soldered onto the board as well.
