You have the speck case, now get one of those rubber keyboard covers, the suede screen protector, a palm rest protector, a trackpad protector, and use white cotton gloves when handling it.

If all else, you can wrap it in the plastic you probably have your sofa wrapped in.

I agree with the white glove idea. Also, buy a roll of bubble wrap and apply a fresh layer on a daily basis. And as always, always keep it in a dark, humidity & temperature controlled room.

I think its natural for people to be like this when they buy something new, after a while, the newness will wear off and you'll become less worried about it.

If you are going to be putting it in a non-computer bag, of course put a sleeve on it, otherwise you'll be fine.

As for covering things in thick plastic cases, I never saw the point, even the incase slider for the iPhone seems way too thick. I keep my iPod Touch 2G without anything on it but a screen protector. Obviously the back is a bit scratched, but I'd still rather see the chrome than a thick case.

For me the keyboard protector is nice because I like to slam on the keys. And because I find it much nicer to type on. Also, I was utterly appalled when I took the keyboard off of the Powerbook, all the hair and crumbs....

Yeah, I recently took most of my keys off my keyboard in an attempt to clean out the hair underneath, and although I got most of them, they just get so stuck in my MBP that they won't come out without a fight.
I would never put any kind of protector on my keyboard or any part of my MBP because computers are made to be used! Most damages happen in transportation anyways, so I invested in a good backpack and a year and a half later, my MBP is still in a very good condition. I have only one small dent on the side, but beyond that, it could pass off as new. I don't have any of the "glazed" keys on my keyboard either.
I should add that I spend anywhere from 3 to 8 hours a day on it. It is not in a safe. I do wipe the MBP down with a damp cloth to remove any oil smudges from my wrists and fingers about twice a month, and wipe down my screen with a micro-fiber cloth (the one that came with the machine) whenever the screen gets too oily to use (usually once every two months or so).

Hey people, so I got my MacBook Pro about a week ago. I just want to know how you guys treat your MacBooks. I seem to be so sensitive with it and checking very closely for any marks and stuff. Do you guys think I'm over reacting? I also don't let anyone touch it and stuff. I do believe I am over reacting. Give me your opinions or tell me how you guys treat your MacBooks. Do you guys treat it like a PC or anything? Give me your opinions or tell me your stories. Anything would be appreciated.
Also, my Mac seems to be getting a lot slower and kind of lagging compared to when I first got it. Do you guys know any reason why this might happen? And I didn't download any Apps. I only downloaded Oovoo, AppDelete, iAlertU, Mozilla Firefox, and Senuti. I deleted them all from my system already. But my Mac still seems to be lagging a little. Any suggestions or opinions would be appreciated. :apple:

Like a baby :D

nah just kidding, I bought a moshi clearguard and a palmguard to minimize wear and tear on the keyboard and the palm rest.

I don't know. I'm a very big fan of keyboard protectors, and cases. I think palmguards and screen protectors are a little over the top though.

I also come from a home with Siberian Huskies, so hair is a giant concern. Not to mention I do a lot of schoolwork while in a cafe munching on a donut or bagel. With my first notebook, an HP, after about 2 years, the keys began to get a bit sticky because of the ridiculous amount of dog hair underneath the keys, and it took quite a bit of effort to get it out. I'm very much a fan of Moshi's keyboard protector now as it reduces that issue with very little issues with my typing.

I also have a Speck case. I drop things constantly, knock things over, etc, and I don't mean it, as I can be very careful and still accidentally knock it over. So with that and a sleeve I feel a bit more at ease. I worry about me dropping it the wrong way and messing up my screen. It's not foolproof, but it's piece of mind.

That being said, I don't see the big issue with cases and keyboard covers. At least they're respecting their very nice, very expensive equipment?

+1 College is hell for any laptop... But i just throw mine around ram into doors and everything else:rolleyes: JKJK dont really do that. I protect mine the best i can but in the end i know that it will wear and tear as anything else... But i may have threatened people if they where to mess with my MBP;). I also slap anybody who puts their hand by my screen... but i've shown restraint when it was a professor

Yeah seriously what is up with people touching the computer screen when they are trying to point out something. That has always really annoyed me!

Have you ever used an aluminum laptop before? I learned my lesson with my PB G4... my sweaty palms pitted the hell out of the case. I'm getting palm guards out of necessity, not so much scratch protection. ;)

Yeah, I feel like I'm overreacting too because I got to the Apple store a lot and I see all those Macs that people touch and screw around with and they seem to be perfectly fine. There is like no scratches on the palm rest even though all the people in New York touched them and put their hands on them. I'm just amazed by that so I think I'm just overreacting. But I still think it is kind of needed because I don't want to damage it in anyway. I guess I should just have fun with it and stay calm because I guess that is what the Mac is made for; going around to use anywhere and being durable.

Yep. Apple doesn't sell pieces of junk. You're way over doing it. Take care of it-- but it doesn't need to be treated like King Ali Ba-ba.

Yeah I like to keep mine is a sleeve. Otherwise, I use an external mouse since the trackpad can get discolored and aggravated from use. For me I like the Logitech Nano, where you can keep the USB receiver in at all times since it is so small.

Not true. My sleeve has a zipper but the macbook sits in an internal pouch inside that eliminates contact from the zipper.

Not all sleeve are like that , some will scratch your macbook case real hard . I rather order something without zipper just to be extra safe

Some sleeves are like that, some are not. :)

My macbook has a greater chance of spontaneously combusting inside by sleeve than getting scratched by the zipper.:p I guess you would have to see it in person to know what I am talking about.

I don't know but the people who know me well like to put there fingers as close to my screen as they can and it annoys the hell out of me!!

Hey guys, quick question in line with this thread. I just ordered my MBP (see sig), it's "prepared to ship." I'm excited! But I'm also wondering about protection. I've ordered an invisible shield, and it's on the way, so that will take care of any concerns I'd have over scratching. However...

My next big concern is over denting/bending. I have a nice messenger bad that I've used from college, and I want to take it with me to law school this fall. However, it does not have a dedicated/solo laptop compartment. I never took my laptop with me to class as an undergrad. However, I plan to take my mbp with me to class every day. As a law student I expect my books will be ENORMOUS and very heavy. So now I'm worried about my books denting/bending my aluminum casing. So the million-dollar question...

Will a sleeve provide enough protection? Or do I need to buy a whole new messenger bag with a dedicated laptop compartment? I mean, I'm a common sense sort ... I don't plan to put my laptop in my bag first, in the sleeve, and then think it's ok to throw big/heavy textbooks on top of it. Common sense suggests loading text books in first and laptop in last. But whatever. I just want to know if a sleeve will be enough protection from all the textbooks I'll be lugging around this fall. Honest answers guys. Ugh, I'd just really hate to have to get a new bag. I'd really rather just get an incase sleeve, or a booq taipan (or vyper), or a colca/macsac, or something along those lines. But like I said, honest answers guys, I'm preparing to not like what I hear if that's how it turns out...

Yah, i have to hold back when people touch the screen too. Its usually right after i cleaned it too. But i carry one of those optical cleaning cloths in my backpack so its all good.

If you want advice on sleeves and protection just mroogle it. There is what seems like endless threads on it.

Reading this entire thread, I am thankful to have gone with an HP notebook for college to be ready to face the elements. I plan on my college graduation or when I am in dire need of a new notebook near the end to buy a Mac notebook. I plan on switching to Mac after this notebook. So that way, the MacBook *whatever* comes out in the way future from now, it'll be screaming my name! :D

Don't get me wrong, I'm a Mac and PC lover.

As I posted elsewhere, I keep my Macbook Pro in a fireproof box dipped in paraffin, stored in a lead-lined bomb shelter. I want my Macbook Pro to be in PERFECT condition forever, so the only way to do that is just not to use it.

Those of you who are overly concerned about your Macbook Pro's condition would do well to follow my example.
