Now Cant even brute Force

So i m in the same situation as all others here. After spending almost 3 hours searching for solution i decided to brute force it Manually, but guess what? after few tries it said Its Locked for 1 minute so i m guessing this method is patched and its not possible to unlock mac with brute Force. If any one know solution please let us know here..Thanks

If you read through the other pages you would of seen someone mention a workaround that.

Basically, just go to File > Change Language > then select your language and it'd reset the timer. Then repeat :p Good luck, I'm also having to go the brute force way and have gone through over 7000 combinations now -.- really annoying. Just hoping I haven't missed any out

hurrayyy, Thanks alot although now i have to enter 10,000 combinations by hand lol :p

Edit: Sorry i cant see any menu or file option just 3 options on the bottom to restart, sleep and shutdown. What i m missing :( ?

Np, and I'm going through the same thing don't worry haha. Erm, it doesn't always show so try restart your system and wait for the window to show up that asks to join a network and then just hit cancel and the bar at the top should show. That's how it is for me at least, good luck bro.

As soon as my battery dropped to 14% it started showing because of the low battery option :D so now i m keeping my battery below 14%.

Bt now it some time freeze means if u enter numbers nothing happens for a moment..

plus let me the your result, last time u were on 7000..

if any one else is doing brute force just make sure your battery is belowthn 14% and its not on charging, and if it stucks after changing the language click once on restart, dont worry it wll not actually restart but now u will be able to enter pin's again..
Good luck..

I unlocked it finally, I went through nearly 9000 combinations -_______- but I suppose I got my mac back at least xD I lost hope at around 6000 combinations in thinking I missed the combination and was already thinking about having to start again. So what I've learned is don't give up you're probably closer than you think xD haha.

Let me know how it goes for you dude

Damn mang congrats!!.......I'm almost to the point where I am going to go back at it again with brute force, but damn it takes forever......anybody else have any success??

so do you think this method is applicable, if you are still on 4 pin screen??

I am positive it will work if you need help customizing the Teensy sketch let me know and I will help you, just no PMs, everything public and open source.

PD: Do not format the HDD

PD2: after a 14 hours shift I will go to sleep, will check this thread latter.... also I am too tired and skipped the forum rules so I apologise in advance if I am braking one, if that is the case I will be more than happy to take this discussion to my blog, twitter or somewhere else

Hi, thanks for the article, appreciate your time and effort
so what i understand is if i haven't formatted my hard disk and i m still on 4 digit pin screen, i can try this method and it will hopefully work? plus as you know after entering pin 5 times, it will be disable for 1 min and 5 mins afterwards. but counter can be reset by changing the language, so is there any way to automate this as well(resetting counter)?
Many thanks for offering help to modify the Code.

Teensy code

I have no coding knowledge. Orvtech, can you help with a sketch or coding which includes the 5mins wait after 5 attempts.

Bruteforce

Like others have posted, Brute force is the only do it yourself way to do it as of now, at least for the regular users.

Once your at the pin lock screen start off your pin attempts from 0000 straight up to 9999.

After entering the 1st 5 attempts the computer will be disabled saying you have to wait for 1 minute, in this case u should click your mouse on File in the far left corner next to OSX Utility, when the sub menue drops click on change language just press enter when the screen changes and click on the pin spot to start typing again. doing this will start you off with a new 5 attempts, ducking the 1 minute wait that turns into 5 and so on...

Things to look out for... I have noticed that like another user mentioned battery should be almost dead to get the top toolbar visible / usable. battery should b drained to 14% to get the battery warning message to pop up and bring the toolbar out of hiding.
Also after the language change screen comes up and you press enter to get back to entering your pin, you would have to select the pin slot so that it would be accessible to type in again, because i think the battery warning prompt pops up and steals the attention.

Friends, I had an error in my code, it has now been corrected, can some one test it since I no longer have that MBP?

guys does any one know about the alternative to Teensy board that is available in UK

This.

Tomorrow my Teensy 3.0 will arrive.

Great!

Let us know how you get on with orvtech's code.

If it works, I will invest in a Teensy.

Hopefully someone will test it soon.

From what I understand your Teensy code is for the EFI password, if you unlock the system lock (iCloud) 4 digit password, it automatically unlocks the EFI password.

I'm basically at the 4 digit iCloud lock screen thingy.

I'd rather not Brute Force and go through thousands of combinations, I would prefer automating it, it will also be a learning experience.

@orvtech

Will your automated code work in the 4 digit screen thingy, every 5 times you enter the password wrong, you have to wait, but if you change the language it can reset it, can this process be automated?

Also once it's done using your method, how do you know what the code is?

I need the exact wait time.
I mean how many tries before I have to wait 5 mintues?
How long to wait before each try before we reach the 5 minutes wait?

Are there any keyboard shortcuts to changing the language, if sow, which ones?

There's no keyboard shortcuts for changing the language, as it wouldn't make sense for Apple to implement a shortcut key, you'd only need to change the language once if you needed to.

It's 5 tries for the iCloud PIN before you have to change the language.

From what I understand the EFI password tries are unlimited, so that would be the best option instead of the icloud way. I haven't formatted the SSD so it's probably still a 4 digit code and not a 6 digit code.

After I change the language, there's like a lag, you have to wait several seconds to be able to type the password in again.

I remember reading somewhere that all 9999 combinations have to be like in random order or else the mac recognizes it as a bot.

Do we have proof that this is the case? This will make it significant more complex to guess the 4 digit PIN, remember, we want to know which is the number is being tested, I believe we need this 4 digit PIN when trying to re-set it to other value (which is a needed step to avoid getting it locked again).

We don't need to know the 4 digit pin, as soon as were in, it disables it as far as I know? Even if it doesn't, it's not like we're going to need it again, when we're in, we wipe the entire drive, the recovery drive and re install the OS then it's happy days! :D

Very true, it is meant to work as a security feature.
But now it is an exposed security flaw. Maybe Apple will take note of my circumvention, and this might lead them to patch it up. Therefore making it more secure for everyone. But in the mean time this guide can help the people truly in need.Image

It is my understanding that once you reinstall, the MBP will connect to the interwebs and lock again, apparently the workaround is to lock the firmware (EFI) from the same DVD right before installing with a different PIN.

So... we do need to know what is the number.

I bought a MacBook Air off someone on craigslist, after I paid for it, everything’s fine and dandy, 2 months down the line, it says "Enter your system lock PIN code to unlock this Mac." and underneath it, it says "If you want me to unlock your mac transfer 300 to my bank account".

I can't take it to Apple because I have no receipt or anything, I would also rather do it myself.

As soon as someone can confirm your code works with the Teensy 3, I'll go ahead and purchase it and get the problem sorted.

How would it lock again if the complete drive including recovery was wiped? There would be no iCloud account associated with it? So no way to remotely lock it. Also the MacBook doesn't magically connect to a network, you have to choose a network and enter the relevant information for it to connect. Once you're in to the OS and have control, relevant steps can be taken to remove the password if it isn't removed already.
