Am I the only one who thinks it’s weird that they are going to release M3 devices before the Apple Vision Pro releases?

Hey everybody! Want to buy this $3500 usd device running last years hardware?

I realize there’s a metric tonne of tech in it and it’s totally a niche device for now…. But it just feels wrong to try and push a whole new product category at such a high price without the illusion of premium. I mean you can’t even pre-order it yet.
Someone in another thread posited that they'll announce they're “upgrading” the vision pro to the M3. That seems like a good theory to me. Although it's going to be so supply constrained that they'd probably sell just as many of them with the M2 compared to the M3 anyway. If the M3 brings some big efficiency gains then it'd be a shame if they didn't upgrade it though, seeing how power-hungry that device is.

I still think it's wild that this is competing with Monday Night Football, The World Series, NBA, NHL, and whatever are on Prime Time networks (WWE Raw?) tonight. I wonder why they wanted it in prime time and it seems like having it focused for Asia seems to make some sense.

They don't want their US employees to watch it during working hours.

You arguably need more powerful Macs to develop/emulate Vision Pro software on. If the M3 was released on the Vision Pro first while its apps have to be developed on M2 Macs, that probably wouldn’t be convenient, or the apps developed that way wouldn’t take full advantage of the M3.

I’ve had similar thoughts. If they surprise announced an upgrade to higher-end hardware before it even comes out, it looks good for Apple and can help ensure it doesn’t flop. Note I don’t mean flop in terms of total sales, but mind share of the product category that’s unproven to begin with. Seems very un-Apple like though (or at least, the Apple of the past 10 years).

I hope they at least give us some update on Vision Pro development. It will be interesting how they market the product in order to capture mind share, as you say. The Vision Pro is so expensive, I think Apple would have a hard time marketing it as a consumer product without turning a lot of customers off. They will need to build a Vision Air that is as close to $1000 as possible if you ask me.
