I know what you guys are saying....I would wait 13 months if I had a functional phone...at this rate, I'm moving out soon and the damn eris doesnt even last me 24 hours....and I know tons of ppl with droid eris's that have the same problems as I do(i.e low battery life, software buggyness on android 2.1,etc).

And I'm not 18 yet, in a few months, and yes, I'm on my dad's line..

Otherwise, I had some free time outside and went to the local at&t and was blown away after seeing the retina display in person and the fast processor.

Well, maybe mounting Froyo can help when it releases in a month or so? I see where you're coming from, but then... if you really need a functional phone, why not just get one from Verizon (they may even have trade-in flip phones for free and those have pretty good battery life). Once the next-gen device releases, the iPhone may even be on Verizon, so your dad may not even have to change networks... which would be a plus for your family.

Just buy an iPhone 4 and sign up for a contract. You seem old enough to do that. Your dad can do whatever he wants with your Verizon line.

One thing about iPhones is the incredible RESELL value.

I hear stories of people selling it off eBay or Craigslist and basically canceling the data plan after a month or two. Just use an unlocked phone for the voice plan and tell the corporate store that your iPhone was given away or stolen. Just be careful of the IMEI. AT&T does sweeps and can see if you are using an iPhone w/o a data plan that they will automatically add it back on.

A iPhone 3GS can easily be sold for $400 on CL depending on the condition as of today. That pays off either 16/32GB iPhone 4 now. Heck, even old iPhones with cracks on the glass still sell because the parts can be cheap and easier to replace than if Apple did it. I sold my 2G iPhone the day I put it up for sale on CL even with black key scrapes in the aluminum back. Sold it to a 20-year kid in like 2-3 hours and he already owned a 3GS! Got a dozen email replies.

You basically can get a FREE or discounted iPhone every year if you knew how to sell them online. Many Droids or CDMA phones lack the resell value because it is stuck in those networks. Majority of the world uses GSM anyway. And even in the poorer countries like my beloved Philippines, the real iPhones are sold for what would be equivalent to a grand here.

You've seen threads about iPhone 4's selling for like $900-1000+ in this forum. That's what makes it great with buying iPhones. I can get a great gadget, but I can always get my money back (and perhaps extra) next year if I sell it. Find the loopholes with Apple/AT&T's policies and you will benefit...

I think so. I only read the first page of the thread before responding. I assumed he was over 18 because he said he was leaving for college soon. Anyway, OP, why didn't you buy an iPhone 3GS when your last contract expired?

Since you said that you are moving 3 hours away for college, will you still be working at your current job? Or are you planning on getting a new job in that area? Does your dad possibly assume that you will be quitting your job when you leave for school and at that point you would not have your own income to pay your cell phone bill? So maybe he figures it is just easier to keep you on the family account.

I would say call up Verizon Customer service and tell them your phone is Bull s***. and let them give you something else. And stick with verizon for now. Tell them that your fittin' to switch to At&t when your 18, and the reasons why. If they don't comply after that. Then wait until your 18. Pay the ETF. Get the iPhone 4 and ur good.

You can experience the Retina display probably on the next iPod Touch, so perhaps that could calm your "I want it now" feeling during the 13 months of remaining contract time. Since you probably will be going to college make sure you look into getting the FAN discount.

"What is a FAN? FAN stands for Foundation Account Number. A FAN is when a company or school has an agreement with AT&T to provide a discount to that company's employees or that school's students. A typical FAN discount will be a % off per month on the bill, % off on the cost of a phone, and % off on accessories. To see if you qualify for a FAN discount, go to AT&T's Business Portal and enter your work or school email address. If you qualify, you'll get an email from AT&T with a link in it to attach the FAN to your account."

Honor your contracts, why give them money for absolutely nothing? When you purchased your droid, you had the opportunity to research battery life, etc. but you probably didn't. Live with your bad decision.

Hey all, I was planning to make the switch from verizon to at&t for the iphone 4 with my own money that I earned from work, but last night, my dad basically snapped back at me saying he wouldnt allow me to switch until my contract is over in.....13months.

What are some cool features that the iphone 4 can do but not on android(specifically Droid Eris) besides front-facing camera,Retina Display?

Thanks,

You have no idea how much I f**cking want this phone.

Stick with your Android phone. Personally, I am going to break free from Steve Jobs imposed iPhone limitations and purchase my first Android on Monday.

Personal preference aside ... just wait the 13 months!! It's not that long. If you think the iP4 is cool ... imagine what the iP5 will be like. Just enjoy the phone you have and stop acting like a spoiled brat ;)

I did the same thing, but my Us cellular etf was only like 120$
Show him how voicemail works, all the apps and email
Tell him you want to develop for it an make money

bring two girls home.

explain the iphone will land you the hot blonde one and the android will get someone who looks likes your mom

and if your dad retorts, 'so the iphone is good for impressing dumb bimbos?' then you say...

well... jeez i don't know what else you can say

If you are on a family plan with your dad, I would recommend activating an old Verizon phone with your line and just pay the $10 for the line without internet, texting, etc. In 13 months, that's $130, way less than that crazy ETF and you can just sign up with a new AT&T contract.

If you're trying to convince your father in to letting you get the iPhone 4, just explain to him the reasons that you are giving us here. You just simply want a better phone.
